7   Lieutenant William Allis

 

1.  Biographical notes:

 

Born about 1613 at Dagenham, Essex County, England.  Died 6 September 1678 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

 

One of the 39 men who arrived in the vicinity of modern-day Boston, Massachusetts on 1 July 1630 on the 3rd voyage of the Mayflower.  Was a surveyor and laid out the fort at Charlestown, the 1st regular settlement of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

 

2.  Wife: Mary (Bronson) Desborough

 

Born about 1615 at Chelmsford, Essex County, England; daughter of Roger (b. 15 Sep 1576 at Chelmsford, d. there 22 Oct 1635) and Mary (Underwood) (b. abt 1579 at Lamarsh, Essex Co., England, d. 18 Mar 1623 at Chelmsford).  Died 19 September 1677 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.  Married (1st) Nicholas Desborough (b. abt 1612 at Walden, Essex Co., England, d. 31 Aug 1683 at Hartford, CT), son of Nicholas Desborough of Waldon, England, about 1633 at Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, and had the following daughter:

 

a. Mary Desborough: Born about 1635 at Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut.  Died 1700 at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.  Married William Pringle (b. 9 Apr 1631 at Stowe, Midlothian Co., Scotland).

6   John Allis

 

1.  Biographical notes:

 

Born 5 March 1642 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.  Died 1 January 1691 at Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

 

Was employed as a millwright and carpenter.  Was Captain of the Hatfield Militia.  Owned land inherited from his father in Rhode Island, later granting part to Henry Neale on 24 June 1685.  Helped build many churches, and was erecting the 1st corn mill in Mill River when he died.  Was the 1st Town Clerk of Hatfield and one of the six men designated to survey and lay out the highway between Hadley and Windsor, Connecticut.  Fought in “King Phillip’s War” and at Turner Falls/Great Falls.  Lived for a while in Hartford, Connecticut.  Laid the foundation for the meeting place in Springfield, Massachusetts and hung the bell there.

 

2.  Wife: Mary Meekins (by another account, Mary Clarke)

 

Born 8 June 1645 at Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.  Died 10 April 1705 in Massachusetts.  Married John Allis on 14/12 December 1669 at Hatfield, Massachusetts.

Born 1765 (14 Sep 1741 by one account, but this doesn’t seem likely) at Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.  Died 28 November 1837 at Allis Hollow, Orwell Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

Died 23 September 1831.

Born about 24 February 1760 at Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.  Died about 1795 in Vermont.  Daughter of Samuel and Mary (Boltwood) Ingraham.  Married Eleazer Allis, III on 16 December 1794 at Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

Born 1779 at Sugar Creek, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 23 September 1831 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Daughter of Ezra and Mary (Simons) Rutty.  Married Eleazer Allis, III about 1801 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

Laura Allis: Born 29 April 1804 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 6 March 1882.  Married Abel Leroy Darling (b. 12 Jan 1804, d. 6 Mar 1866 at Orwell Twp, Bradford Co., PA), son of Colonel TheronTharon” and Sarah “Sally” (Russell) Darling, on 12 January 1826 at Allis Hollow.

 

(3. Electa Allis: Born 6 August 1806 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 31 October 1887 at Rome, Bradford County.  Married Reverend Henry “Harry” Luther Parks (b. 18 Jul 1800 at Allis Hollow, d. 22 Jan 1888 at Rome), son of John Clark and Sarah (Wallen) Parks, on 6 August 1826.

 

(4. Orinda Allis: Born 11 July 1809 at Orwell Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 15 February 1846.  Married James Cleveland on 24 February 1840.

 

(5. Ezra Rutty Allis: Born 16 October 1810 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 14 February 1885 at Orwell Township, Bradford County.

PA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Orwell Township, Bradford County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $500.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Allis, age 38 (b. PA), son, Wallace Allis, age 16 (b. PA); son, Jacob Allis, age 12 (b. PA; daughter, Mary Ann Allis, age 10 (b. PA); son, George Allis, age 8 (b. PA); and daughter, Helen Allis, age 4 (b. PA).

 

Of interest: Ezra's next door neighbor was Silas Allis, age 56 (b. MA) and employed as a farmer.  His real estate was valued at $2,000.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Allis, age 49 (b. PA); son, H. S. Allis, age 21 (b. PA); son, H. K. (9. William Nelson Allis: Born 20 June 1821 in Orwell Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 28 August 1892 in Orwell Township.  Married Martha Young (b. 1822) on 13 April 1848 at Rome, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

 

(10. Esther Allis: Born 1 October 1825 at Allis Hollow, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 17 April 1888 at Allis Hollow.  Married Nathaniel N. Parks (b. 22 Sep 1826 at Allis Hollow, d. there 17 Apr 1888), son of John, Jr. and Margaret (Strope) Parks, on 24 February 1848 at Allis Hollow.
