Born about 1810 in New York. Emigrated to America from Holland with his brothers?

1850 US Census: Almond Barnes, age 40 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Martinsburg Township, Lewis County, New York. No value recorded for real estate. The household also included his wife, Sarah Barnes, age 37 (b. CT); son, Harvey Barnes, age 15 and employed as a farmer; son, Willard Barnes, age 13 (b. NYS); daughter, Lucia Barnes, age 11 (b. NYS); son, Homer Barnes, age 2 (b. NYS); and mother, Polly Barnes, age 80 (b. CT).

1855 NYS Census: Allmon Barnes, age 45 (b. Oneida Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Martinsburg Township, Lewis County, New York. The household also included his wife, Sarah Barnes, age 43 (b. CT); son, Harvey Barnes, age 20 (b. Oneida Co., NY), single, and employed as a teacher; son, Willard Barnes, age 18 (b. Lewis Co., NY), single, and employed as a teacher; daughter, Lucia Barnes, age 16 (b. Lewis Co., NY), single, and employed as a teacher; and son, Homer Barnes, age 6 (b. Lewis Co., NY).

1860 US Census: Almon Barnes, age 50 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York. His real estate was valued at $1,800, and his personal property was valued at $500. The household also included his wife, Sarah Barnes (b. CT); son, Harvey Barnes, age 25 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; son, Willard Barnes, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a school teacher; daughter, Lucia Barnes, age 21 (b. NYS) and employed as a school teacher; and son, Homer Barnes, age 11 (b. NYS).

1865 NYS Census: Almon Barnes, age 55 (b. Oneida Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York. He had been married once, and his frame dwelling was valued at $100. The household also included his wife, Sarah M. Barnes, age 53 (b. CT), who had had 4 children; son, Williard G. Barnes, age 28 (b. Lewis Co., NY), single, and employed as a teacher; and son, Homer A. Barnes, age 16 (b. Lewis Co., NY), single, and employed as a farmer.

1870 US Census: Almon Barns, age 57 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wilna Township (Carthage Post Office), Jefferson County, New York. His real estate was valued at $3,000, and his personal property was valued at $1,400. The household also included his wife, Sarah Barns, age 56 (b. NYS); son, Homer Barns, age 22 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; and domestic servant, Mary Ceowner, age 17 (b. NYS).

a. Harvey W. Barnes: Born 1836 at Westmoreland, Oneida County, New York. Veteran of the American Civil War; served in Company H, 20^th New York Heavy Artillery. Died unmarried in November 1864 and was interred in Lake School Road Cemetery, Wilna Township (now on Fort Drum property), New York.

b. Willard G. Barnes: (photos) Born 13 April 1837 in Lewis County, New York. Died 30 April 1873 at Pittsfield, Brown County, Wisconsin. Employed as an attorney. Married Lucios/Lucy Torin (b. 1841, d. 1921) on 20 December 1871 at Suamico, Brown County, Wisconsin and had the following son:

(1. Harvey Willard Barnes: Born 17 December 1872 in Brown County, Wisconsin. Died 26 March 1953 at Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Married Josephine Theisen (b. 1879 in IA, d. 26 May 1928 in Ramsey Co., MN) on 29 June 1902 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and had children.

c. Lucia Barnes: See generation 3, below.

d. Homer A. Barnes: (photos) Born about 1848 in Lewis County, New York. Died 1885 near Detroit, Michigan.

Of interest: A Homer A. Barnes (d. 18 Apr 1885, age 37) was interred in Lake School Road Cemetery, Wilna Township (now on Fort Drum), Jefferson County, New York.

Born 25 April 1838/39 in Lewis County, New York. Died 1905 in New York. Married Warren Van Allen, generation 3 of the Van Allen Annex.
