1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 5 December 1809 at Borstel on Neurnburg, Germany.  Died 18 April 1891.  His father died when he was young; subsequently raised by an uncle.  Served 7 years in the German Army, as well as 5 years as a mercenary soldier, all during a period of relative peace, so no time in combat.  Immigrated with his family to the United States in August 1869, settling at Salem, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  About 1875 moved to Tuscola County, Michigan.

Born 21/27 November 1817 at Borstel on Neurnburg/Neineburg, Germany, daughter of Henry and Carstens (?) Ahlers.  Died 11 February 1888.  Married John Dedrick Brinkman in Germany.

Mary Marie Brinkman: Born 29 January 1840 at Borstel/Berstel on Nurnburg, Germany.  Died 28 September 1895, age 45 years, 2 months, 1 day.  Heavy set.  Immigrated to the United States with her parents and her own family in 1869.  Married, as his 1st wife, Diedrick Herman Rohlfs (b. 4 Apr 1844 at Hanover, Germany, d. 27 Jan 1916, age 71 yrs, 4 mo., 24 days) in 1863/64.  Diedrick was a veteran of the Prussian War.  He came to America as a stowaway on a freighter, eventually settling in Michigan.  He moved from Whitmore Lake, Michigan to Fairgrove Township, Michigan in 1876, where he bought and developed a farm at 2775 Cramer Road, Akron.  Mary and Diedrick had the following children:

Frederick "Fred" John Rohlfs: Born 22 August 1863 in Germany.  Died 27 October 1924.  Married Kathleen "Kate" Kohl/Cole (b. 18 Apr 1869, d. 12 Apr 1956) of Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan on 26 September 1888 and resided in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County.  Fred and Kate adopted the following son:

 

(a. Frederick "Fred" Glen Rohlfs: (adopted) Born 25 Apr 1917.  Married Betty Lorraine Fobear on 31 August 1945 and resided at 2357 Thomas Road, Fairgrove, Michigan 48733.  Frederick and Betty had the following children:

 

(1) Richard Allen Rohlfs: Born 1953.  Married Christine Cheskey (b. 1967) in 1981 and resided in Florida.  In 1989 resided in Michigan; subsequently divorced.

 

(2) Martha Ellen Rohlfs: Born 1957.  Married Larry Becker (b. 1952) in 1976 and resided in Michigan.  Martha and Larry had the following children:

Edith Marian/Marion Brinkman: (more info) Born 1 September 1900 in Salem Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  Died 11 December 1983, age 83, at Ann Arbor, Michigan; interred there in Leland Cemetery.  Married, as his 2nd wife, Andrew "Andy" Adolph Fahrner (d. 12 Aug 1972) on 24 June 1924/25 in Salem Township and resided at 1455 Harpst Street, Ann Arbor.  Andrew had the following children with his 1st wife:

 

(a. Lloyd Fahrner: In 1983 resided in Michigan.

 

(b. Juanita Fahrner: Married Louis Hames and in 1983 resided in California.

 

e. William "W.D." D. Brinkman: Born 6 October 1857 at Bockhop/Bocholt, Germany.  Immigrated to the United States with his parents in August 1869, settling at Salem, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  Married Katherine/Catherine Layer (d. 21 Feb 1939) on 28 October 1884 and had the following children:

 

(1. Emma Margaret Brinkman: Born 13/18 February 1885 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Graduated from Fairgrove High School and Bay City Business College, Bay City, Michigan.  Married Tillman Solden/Soldan of Pigeon, Michigan on 5 February 1912 and had the following children:

 

(a. Elmer William Solden: Born 11 March 1914 at Pigeon, Michigan.

 

(b. Helen Margaret Solden: Born 12 March 1918 at Pigeon, Michigan.

 

(c. Annabelle Solden: Born 1922.

 

(2. Henry John Brinkman: Born 4 May 1886 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Attended Michigan Agricultural College, Lansing, Michigan.  Married Sadie Murry/Murray on 21 December 1910 at Fairgove, Michigan and had the following children:

 

(a. Helen Maxine Brinkman: Born 8/10 March 1912 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.

 

(b. Henry J. Brinkman, Jr.: Born 1925 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.

Charles William Brinkman: Born 20 March 1888/87 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Attended Vassar High School, Michigan.  Graduated from Bay City Business College, Bay City, Michigan.  Employed as head bookkeeper for the Michigan Sugar Company, Bay City.  Married Lina M. Gaudreau/Gandreau of Bay City on 16 May 1914 and had the following children:

 

(a. Virginia Marie Brinkman: Born 16 February 1915 at Bay City, Michigan.  Died there 8 December 1916.  Employed as a bookkeeper for the Michigan Sugar Company, Bay City.

 

(b. Charles William Brinkman, Jr.: Born 9 February 1917 at Bay City, Michigan.

 

(c. Clifford John Brinkman: Born 9 July 1918 at Bay City, Michigan.

 

(d. Raymond Keith Brinkman: Born 9 January 1922.  Died 7 July 1935.

 

(e. Paul Kenneth Brinkman: Born 1926.

 

(4. Bertha Sophia Brinkman: Born 28/25 November 1889 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Died 12 October 1927.  Attended Fairgrove High School.  Married Allie Grear on 24 April 1924 at Birmingham, Michigan.

 

(5. Frank Edward Brinkman: Born 25 August 1891 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Died 18 December 1918 at Pigeon, Michigan.  Married Mable Broderick/Brodenur on 29 April 1913 at Caro, Michigan and had the following children:

 

(a. Beatrice Arbutus Eleanor Brinkman: Born 19 October 1913 at Pigeon, Michigan.

 

(b. Stanley Leroy Brinkman: Born 11 July 1915 at Prescott, Michigan.

 

(c. Mildred Katherine/Catherine Brinkman: Born 6 July 1917 at Pigeon, Michigan.

 

(d. Frank Edward Brinkman, Jr.: Born 29 June 1919.  Died at age 1 year.

 

(6. John Jacob Brinkman: Born 7 June 1893 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Veteran of World War I; served 1 year, 10 months, 23 days, including 1 year in Europe.  Married Minnie York on 24 December 1927.

 

(7. Lillian May Brinkman: Born 10 May 1895 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Married Lee C. Rice of Rochester, Michigan on 28 February 1917 and resided at 120 E. Fifth Street, Rochester, Michigan.  Lillian and Lee had the following daughter:

 

(a. Marjorie Pauline Rice: Born 28 April 1919 at Detroit, Michigan.

 

(8. William Frederick Brinkman: Born 4/24 February 1897 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Employed as a farmer.  Married Bertha Marie Rayl on 20 December 1922 and  had the following children:

 

(a. Donald Dean Brinkman: Born 1924.

 

(b. Charlotte Marie Brinkman: Born 1925.

 

(c. Dorothy Jean Brinkman: Born 1928.

 

(9. Winford August Brinkman: Born 3 January 1899 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Employed as a farmer.  Married Katherine Alberta McDougall on 21 February 1923 and had the following children:

 

(a. Winford Loren Brinkman: Born 1923.

 

(b. Charles William Brinkman: Born 30 August 1927.  Died 1967 from injuries received in an automobile accident.

 

(10. J. Mary Dora Brinkman: Born 15 October 1901 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Married Donald C. Adams on 18 January 1922 and resided at 318 Montague Avenue, Caro, Michigan.  Mary and Donald had the following children:

 

(a. Donald C. Adams, Jr.: Born 1923.

 

(b. Onalee Marie Adams: Born 1925.

 

(11. George Theodore Brinkman: Born 15 May 1904 at Caro, Indianfields Township, Michigan (also seen: Fairgrove Twp, Tuscola Co., MI).  Attended Fairgrove High School.

 

(12. Blanche E./Beatrice Brinkman: Born 9 August 1907 in Fairgrove Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Attended Fairgrove High School.

 

3   Katherine "Kate" Margaret Brinkman:

 

Born September 1849 at Borstel am Nurnburg, Germany.  Died December 1927.  Married Gottfried Ferdinand Montei, generation 3 of the Montei Annex, on 14 April 1872.
