Born October 1864 in England.

 

1900 US Census: John Carman, age 45 (b. Oct 1864 in PA; parents b. England), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Sheshequin Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his daughter, Clara Carman, age 17 (b. Dec 1882 in PA; parents b. PA) and single; daughter, Hattie Carman, age 10 (b. Aug 1889 in PA; parents b. PA); servant, Charles Carman, age 5 (b. Oct 1894 in PA; parents b. PA); and son, Arthur Carman, age 1 (b. Jan 1899 in PA; parents b. PA).

 

1910 US Census: John W. Carman, age 58 (b. PA; parents b. England), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Sheshequin Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his son, Arthur S. Carman, age 11 (b. PA; parents b. PA); son-in-law, Edward R. Shores, age 29 (b. PA; parents b. PA); and daughter (Edward's wife of 3 yrs), Charlotte Shores, age 29 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who had had no children.

a. Charlotte Carman: Born about 1881 in Pennsylvania.

 

b. Clara Carman: Born December 1882 in Pennsylvania.  Married W. L. Campbell, son of Charles D. and Sarah (?) Campbell, on 3 June 1908 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

 

c. Hattie Carman: Born August 1889 in Pennsylvania.

1   Arthur Stanley Carman:

 

Born 1/7 June 1898/97.  Died 28 January 1969; interred Bradford County Memorial Park.  Resided last at Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Married (1st) Jennie M. (?) and had the following children:

 

1. Eleanor M. Carmen: Married Harold Kring and resided at Ulster, Pennsylvania.

 

2. Doris C. Carmen: Died 22 August 1992.  Married George Lampman and resided at Luther Mills, Pennsylvania.

 

Arthur married (2nd), as her 2nd husband, Ruth Elizabeth (Biles) Rubert, descendant # 5 of generation 10 of the Descendants of John Addison Biles on 3 October 1953.

 

1910 US Census: Arthur S. Carman, age 11, resided in the household headed by his father in Sheshequin Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

 

1920 US Census: Arthur S. Carmen, age 21 (b. PA) and employed as an air brakeman for a railroad company, was heading a household at 384 South Loder Street in South Waverly Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Jennie Carmen, age 25 (b. PA). 

 

1930 US Census: Arthur S. Carman, age 31 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Mountain Lake District of Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  He was married 1st at age 20.  The household also included his wife, Jennie M. Carman, age 36 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who was married 1st at age 25; daughter, Eleanor M. Carman, age 10 (b. PA); daughter, Doris C. Carman, age 5 (b. PA); and father, John W. Carman, age 77 (b. PA; father b. England; mother b. PA) and widowed.

 

1940 US Census: Arthur S. Carman, age 41 (b. PA) and employed as foreman of the Pennsylvania Draft Office, was heading a household in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  He had completed 8th grade and resided in the same house in April 1935.  The household also included his wife, Jennie Carman, age 46 (b. PA), who had completed 2 years of high school; daughter, Elner Carman, age 20 (b. PA) and single, who had completed 4 years of high school; and daughter, Dorris Carman, age 15 (b. PA) and employed as a stenographer, who had completed 1 year of high school.
