Baptized 8 October 1598 at Paignton (on the shore of Tor Bay, about 7 miles north of Dartmouth), Devon County, England.  Died 11 November 1675 in Springfield Township, Hampden County, Massachusetts; interred there 15 November 1675 in Chicopee Cemetery, Springfield, Massachusetts.  Immigrated from England to America in 1634 with his wife and 5 children (David, Catherine, Sarah, Henry, & Josiah).  Was at Roxbury, Massachusetts about 1638Took the Freeman’s Oath in June 1641 at Boston.  Probably resided at Dorchester.  Settled at Springfield, Massachusetts about 1642, where he was a Deacon in the Congregational Church.

Baptized 21 February 1601/02 at Paignton/Berry Pomeroy, Devon County, England, daughter of Henry and Jane (?) Penny/Penney of Paignton.  Died 8 February 1682/83 in Springfield Township, Hampden County, Massachusetts.  Married Samuel Chapin on 9 February 1623/24 at Paignton.

Madison Co., NY).  Moved from Springfield Township to Ashfield Township, Franklin County, Massachusetts.  Veteran of the Revolutionary War; served in the grade of sergeant at Fort Ticonderoga, Essex County, New York, where he was captured and taken prisoner.  Escaped and returned to Springfield, Massachusetts, where he reenlisted.

 

Nathan Chapin married Mary Smith (b. 1731/33 in South Hadley Twp, Hampshire Co., MA (also seen: b. Huntstown, MA (later renamed Ashfield Twp, Franklin Co., MA), d. 1787), who resided at Hunts Town, Massachusetts before marriage, on 15 December 1757 (intent to marry recorded 16 Nov 1757) and had the following children:

j. Jacob Chapin: Born 9 November 1789 in Springfield Township, Hampden County, Massachusetts.  Died at Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut.  Married Mercy Morgan of Hinsdale Township, Cheshire County, New Hampshire on 19 January 1815 and had the following children:

(3. George Chapin.

 

(4. Henry Chapin.

 

k. Lucius Chapin: Born 28 September 1792.  Died 9 October 1792.

Born 14 May 1784 in West Springfield Township, Hampden County, Massachusetts.  Died 21 December 1861 in Windsor Township, Broome County, New York.  Married Erastus Pease, generation 4 of the Pease Annex on 10 January 1808 at North Woods, Massachusetts.
