8.Other biographical notes on Sadie:

a. Sadie was relatively tall in her Cool family - 5 feet 8 inches. She was named after both of her grandmothers, Sarah Ann (Bennett) Cool and Ellen Jane (Jones) Brown.Of interest, Sadieís niece, Anna Arville (Drake) Burdick, the oldest daughter of Sadieís sister, Roxanna, and, thus personally well-acquainted with Sadie, said repeatedly that she thought her aunt Sadieís middle name was Jane, saying: ďthatís all I ever heard;Ē and when Anna said that, she was not aware that her great grand motherís name was Ellen Jane Jones.Of further interest, Sadie's nephew, Vincent Ellsworth Slater (son of Sadie's sister, Martha), who did a lot of research on his family's history when his mother and Aunt Sadie were still living, including discussions with Sadie's daughter, Pauline (Montei) McArthur, also recorded Sadie's middle name as Jane. However, in the 1920 US Census Sadie, age 41, was referred to as "Sada E.," and that would also be consistent with the popular tradition at that time of giving one's oldest female child the first names of her two grandmothers.

b. Following the death of her 1st daughter, Hazel, in early 1918, Sadie became deeply depressed. Her daughter, Pauline, said: "Mother had a nervous breakdown."That fall, to help Sadie recover, she, John, Gladys, and Pauline travelled to northern New York State to visit her parents.

c. John and Sadie were well-known locally for, among other things, their singing skills.John was a base, and Sadie was a soprano. They frequently sang in local churches and at local gatherings.
