Born November 1834 in Ireland.  Died .  Employed as a farmer.

 

1860 US Census: James Dawlton, age 31 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $200.  The household also included his wife, Cathrine Dawlton, age 24 (b. NYS), Richard Dawlton, age 12 (b. NYS); Margaret Dawlton, age 12 (b. NYS); and Margaret Dawlton, age 1 (b. NYS).

 

1870 US Census: James Dalton, age 37 (b. Ireland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Croghan Township (Indian River Post Office), Lewis County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $300 and his personal property was valued at $700.  The household also included his wife, Catharine Dalton, age 33 (b. NYS); daughter, Margaret Dalton, age 11 (b. NYS); son, John F. Dalton, age 6 (b. NYS); daughter, Elisabeth Dalton, age 4 (b. NYS); son, James Dalton, age 3 (b. NYS); daughter, Ellen Dalton, age 2 (b. NYS); daughter, Catharine Dalton, age 2 months (b. May 1870 in NYS); Richard Dalton, age 25 (b. Ireland); and George Kelson, age 16 (b. NYS) and employed as a logger.

 

1880 US Census: James Dalton, age 45 (b. Ireland; parents b. Ireland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cathrine Dalton, age 45 (b. NYS; parents b. Ireland); son, John Dalton, age 17 (b. NYS) and employed at home; daughter, Mary Dalton, age 15 (b. NYS); son, James Dalton, age 13 (b. NYS) and employed at home; daughter, Ellen Dalton, age 11 (b. NYS); daughter, Catherine Dalton, age 9 (b. NYS); son, William Dalton, age 7 (b. NYS); daughter, Sarah Dalton, age 4 (b. NYS); son, Moritz Dalton, age 3 (b. NYS); and son, George Dalton, age 2 (b. NYS).

 

1892 NYS Census: James Dalton, age 53 (b. Ireland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Catharine Dalton, age 45 (b. US); John Dalton, age 28 (b. US) and employed as a laborer; James R. Dalton, age 25 (b. US) and employed as a laborer; Maurice Dalton, age 14 (b. US); George V. Dalton, age 13 (b. US); William P. Dalton, age 19 (b. US); Jessie M. Dalton, age 10 (b. US); Sarah Dalton, age 17 (b. US) and employed as a domestic; and Thomas Dalton, age 52 (b. US) and employed as a laborer.

 

1900 US Census: James Dalton, Sr., age 65 (b. Nov 1834 in Ireland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  He immigrated to the US in 1851 and was subsequently naturalized.  The household also included his wife, Catherine Dalton, age 65 (b. Jun 1834 in NYS; parents b. Ireland), who had had 11 children, 10 of whom were still alive; and son, James Dalton, Jr., age 23 (b. Jan 1877 in NYS), single, and employed as a farm laborer.

 

1905 NYS Census: James Dalton, age James Dalton, age 76 (b. Ireland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on State Road in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cathrine A. Dalton, age 67 (b. US); son, James R. Dalton, age 46 (b. US) and employed as a farmer; and son, Morris A. Dalton, age 26 (b. US) and employed as a farmer.

 

1910 US Census: James Dalton, age 85 (b. Ireland; parents b. Ireland), resided in the household headed by his son, James Dalton, age 37 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a farmer.  James Sr. immigrated to the US in 1850 and was subsequently naturalized.  The household also included James, Sr.'s wife of 50 years, Cally Dalton, age 75 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who  had had 12 children, 10 of whom were still alive.  Of interest, the household headed by James Sr.'s son, John, age 50 (b. NYS) and single, was enumerated next door.

c. Elizabeth/Mary Dalton: Born about 1866 in New York.

 

d. James R. Dalton, Jr.: Born 13 January 1867 (also seen: b. 1871 in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  Died age 75 at Community Hospital, West Carthage, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York; interred Fairview Cemetery, Carthage, Wilna Township, Jefferson County.  Employed as a farmer.  Later resided at 25 Lathrop Street, West Carthage.  Married Eva Potter and had the following children:

 

(1. Stella Dalton: Married Claire Doyle.

 

(2. Doris Dalton.

e. Ellen Dalton: Born about 1868 in New York.

i. Maurice/Morris A. Dalton: Born about 1878 in New York.  Married Nellie (?) and resided at 211 S. James Street, Carthage, Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Morris and Nellie had the following son:

 

(1. Gerald M. Dalton: Born 5 April 1916 at Carthage, Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died about 18 March 1945, age 27; killed in the crash of an airplane he was piloting during during World War II.  Graduated from the Augustinian Academy, Carthage.  Veteran of World War II, served as an officer in the US Army Air Corps; enlisted 18 February 1941; piloted B-24 Liberator bombers.  Married Leona Cross, daughter of Frank Cross of Roscoe, Arizona, on 22 July 1943 at Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.

 

j. George V. Dalton: Born about 1879 in New York.

 

k. Theresa "Tessie" M. Dalton: Born about 1882 in New York.  Married (1st) (?) Wagoner; divorced August 1911 at Watertown, New York.  Married (2nd) Darwin Bishop (b. Lewis Co., NY), son of Edwin and Caroline (Burnham) Bishop, on 16 August 1917 and resided at Ilion, Herkimer County, New York.

Born May 1870 in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  Died 1940.  Married Charles H. Marcott, generation 3 of the Marcott Annex, on .
