1830 US Census: William Drake was heading a household in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household included 1 male age 15 to 20, 1 male age 40 to 50, 1 female age 10 to 15; 1 female age 15 to 20; and 1 female age 40 to 50.  Of interest, the household headed by Sylvester Drake was enumerated 2 doors away on the same census page.

 

1840 US Census: William Drake was heading a household in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household included 1 male age 50 to 60; 1 female age 20 to 30; and 1 female age 50 to 60.

 

1850 US Census: Polly Drake, age 70 (b. VT) was heading a single-person household in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.

 

1860 US Census: William Bellus, age 48 (b. VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Louisville Township (Massena Post Office), St. Lawrence County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2000, and his personal property was valued at $600.  The household also included his wife, Anna S. Bellus, age 44 (b. NYS); son, Ebenezer Bellus, age 14 (b. NYS); son, William H. Bellus, age 12 (b. NYS); and (perhaps mother-in-law), Polley Drake, age 80 (b. CT).

VT) and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household in Louisville Township (Norfolk Post Office), St. Lawrence County, New York.  His personal property was valued at $740.  The household also included his wife, Serena Drake, age 59 (b. MA); James Drake, age 17 (b. NYS) and employed working on a farm; Franklin Steenberg, age 9 (b. NYS); and Cathrine Steenberg, age 7 (b. NYS).

 

1880 US Census: William Dreak, age 70 (b. VT; parents b. VT) and employed as a carpenter servant, resided in the household headed by Almond Whiting, age 57 (b. VT) and employed as a farmer in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Apart from Almond's wife, Elizabeth, age 59, and Almond's servant, A. Julia Strait, age 55 (b. VT), the household also included William's wife, Catharine Dreak, age 22 (b. Canada; parents b. Canada); and William's son, Frank Drake, age 7 months (b. Dec 1879 in NYS; father b. VT; mother b. 1900 US Census: Catherine Drake, age 56 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, with no occupation recorded, was heading a single-person household in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  She had had no children.

1900 US Census: David Drake, age 56 (b. Jun 1843; parents b. NYS) and employed as a night watchman, was heading a household in the Village of Norwood, Potsdam Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 36 years, Betsy A. Drake, age 55 (b. Oct 1844; parents b. VT), who had had 5 children, 4 of whom were still alive; daughter, Lottie L. Drake, age 25 (b. Jan 1875); son, John D. B. Drake, age 22 (b. Dec 1877), single, and employed as a day laborer; and Julius D. B. Drake, age 17 (b. Nov 1882), single, and employed as a day laborer.

 

1910 US Census: David Drake, age 66 (b. NYS; parents b. VT) and employed as a flagman for the railroad, was heading a household on Main Street in the Village of Norwood, Potsdam Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 44 years, Betsey Drake, age 59 (b. NYS; parents b. VT) and employed as a laborer in the quilting industry, who had been married once and had had 5 children, 4 of whom were still alive; daughter, Lottie L. Drake, age 32 (b. MA) and not employed; son, John B. Drake, age 31 (b. NYS) and employed as a railroad clerk; and boarder, Charles Mott, age 78 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a church sexton.

 

David Drake married Betsy Ann Streeter (b. Oct 1844 at Stockholm, NY, d. 17 Jul 1918; interred with David) of Brookdale, Stockholm Township, St. Lawrence County and resided on Main Street in the Village of Norwood, St. Lawrence County.  David and Betsy had the following children:

Drake: Born 11 December 1877 at Brookdale, Stockholm Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Died 28 May 1961.  Lower leg crushed in a train accident; subsequently amputated.  Resided at Norwood, St. Lawrence County, New York.  At age 42 married (1st), as her 2nd husband, Elizabeth M. (Geandrew) Millington (b. abt 1865 in Stockholm Twp, St. Lawrence Co., NY, d. before 1930), age 55, daughter of James (b. Canada) and Mary (Graves) Geandrew (b. US), on 3 June 1920 (license issued 2 Jun 1920) in St. Lawrence County, New York.

 

Widower John Drake married (2nd) Amanda L. Brown (more info) (b. 6 Mar 1888 at Lisbon, NY, d. 1935), daughter of Wesley and Anna (Farrell) Brown, on 1 July 1930 (license issued 18 Jun 1930), at Norwood, St. Lawrence County, New York; perhaps subsequently divorced.  Amanda was employed as a nurse.  John B. Drake married (3rd) Edna Adams (b. abt 1896 in Canada).

1910 US Census: Herbert Drake, age 29 (b. NYS) and employed as a fireman for the city fire department, was heading a household at 256 East Main Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 5 years, Lydia Drake, age 32 (b. Canada; parents b. England), who immigrated to the US in 1880 and had been married once, with no record of children; and boarder, William Robinson, age 20 (b. NYS; father b. NH; mother b. NYS), single, and employed as a laborer doing odd jobs.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Herbert Danforth Drake, age 34 (b. 14 Nov 1883) and employed as a City of Watertown fireman (Station #4), resided with his wife, Lydia Caroline Drake, at 256 E. Main Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1920 US Census: Herbert D. Drake, age 36 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a fireman for the City's Fire Department, was heading a household at 633 Lillian Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Lydia C. Drake, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and son, Herbert C. Drake, age 9 (b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: John E. Watson, age 36 (b. NJ) and employed as , was heading a household at 253 St Mary Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mammie Watson, age 32 (b. NYS); daughter, Thelma Watson, age 5 (b. NYS); father, Richard Watson, age 78 (b. NJ); mother, Jane Watson, age 75 (b. NJ); lodger, Herbert Drake, age 47 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a city fire department lieutenant, who married 1st at age 22; and lodger, Lydia Drake, age 50 (b. NYS; parents b. England), who married 1st at age 25.

 

1940 US Census: Herbert D. Drake, age 57 (b. NYS) and employed as a fire department lieutenant, was heading a household at 253 Massy Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 1 year of college, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Lydia Drake, age 65 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of high school.  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.

 

1945 Florida Census: Herbert D. Drake, age 60 (b. NYS) and retired, was heading a household in St. Cloud Township, Osceola County, Florida.  He had a high school education.   The household also included his wife, Lydia Drake, age 69 (b. NYS), who had an 8th grade education.

 

Herbert Drake married Lydia Caroline Carr (b. abt in NYS) of Utica on 30 November 1905 and had the following son:

NYS) and employed as a fireman on a stationary engine, was heading a household at 100 Hamilton Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 21 years, Nellie F. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Malone Township, Franklin County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 22 years, Anna Streeter, age 38 (b. May 1862 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 5 children, all still alive; boarder, John Paro, age 21 (b. May 1879 in MI; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farm laborer; and boarder, Amelia Forkey, age 21 (b. May 1879; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada), single, and employed as a house servant.

 

1910 US Census: George F. Streeter, age 54 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as caretaker of a cemetery, was heading a household at 3 Edward Street in the Village of Malone Township, Franklin County, New York. He had been married once  The household also included his wife of 32 years, Anna Streeter, age 48 (b. NYS; parents b. Born 1847.  Died 9 March 1905, age 57; interred Riverside Cemetery, Norwood Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  About 1888 moved from Norwood, St. Lawrence County, New York to Black River, Jefferson County, New York.  Employed there as Superintendent of the Black River Pulp Mill.

1870 US Census: Henry Drake, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a farm laborer, resided in the household headed by James W. Brace, age 63 (b. 1900 US Census: Frank E. Drake, age 18 (b. Aug 1881 in NYS) resided with his parents at 72 Remington Street in/near Black River, Rutland Township, Jefferson County, New York (see above).

 

1900 US Census: Fannie A. Gibson, age 17 (b. Mar 1883 in NYS) and single, resided in the household headed by John W. Simpson, age 61 (b. Jul 1838 in NYS, father b. England, mother b. Ireland, m. 20 yrs) and employed as a clergyman, in the Village of Black River, Rutland Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included Fannie's mother, Esther A. Simpson, age 46 (b. May 1853 in NYS, father b. Ireland, mother b. NYS, m. 20 yrs), who had had 4 children, 3 of whom were still alive.

 

Frank Drake married Fannie Esther Gibson (b. Mar 1883 in NYS, d. 1927; interred Watertown City Cem.), step-daughter of Reverend John W. Simpson and his 2nd wife, Esther A. (?) (?) Simpson of Black River and had the following children:

 

(a. Carlton G. Drake: (more info) Born 1903.  Died Friday, 13 December 1941, age 88, at Kanieohe, Oahu, Hawaii; interred Hawaii.  Employed as an engineer.  In 1928 resided at 335 S. Massey Street, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  Moved to California in 1938.  Subsequently to Texas and Hawaii.  Married (1st) Doris L. Eagan, initially of Watertown, New York (but residing in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY when married), on 30 June 1928 at Syracuse, with Reverend Hubert S. Wood officiating; subsequently divorced.  Carlton married (2nd) Helen Cook and had the following children:

 

(1) Robert Drake: In 1991 resided in California.

 

(2) David Drake: In 1991 resided in California.

 

(b. Paul E. Drake: (more info) Born 14 January 1909 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.  Died 14 February 1979 in the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York from complications of heart disease.  Employed as Chief Clerk of the Watertown Railway Express Office.  Veteran of World War II.  Married Florence M. Waldron (more info) (b. 12 Aug 1914 at Watertown, NY, d. Wed. 29 Jan 1992, age 77, at Mercy Center for Health Services, Watertown, NY; interred N. Watertown Cem.), daughter of Arthur and Bessie (Fischer) Waldron, on 1 January 1935 in the 1st Baptist Church, Watertown, and in 1992 resided at 800 Main Street, Glen Park, Jefferson County, New York.  Apparently no children.

VT); Lydia Stearns, age 25 (b. VT); Hiram Drake, age 13 (b. NYS); Fidelia Drake, age 11 (b. NYS); Albert Drake, age 7 (b. NYS); Joseph Polly, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a laborer; and Emily Polly, age 22 (b. NYS).

 

1860 US Census: James Stearns, age 65 (b. VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Louisville Township (Massena Post Office), St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Maria Stearns, age 63 (b. VT); daughter, Lydia Stearns, age 35 (b. VT); Fidelia Drake, age 21 (b. NYS); and Hiram Drake, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $3,000 and personal property was valued at $210.

Drake: Born 23 March 1839 at Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Died 25 September 1901 at Wheaton, Du Page County, Illinois; interred there.  Married (1st) Christopher Green (b. 1838 in NYS), who in 1860 was employed as a mason and resided in the household headed by Elijah H. Stearns, age 46 (b. VT) in Louisville Township, St. Lawrence County, New York, and had the following daughter:

Fidelia Drake married (2nd), as his 2nd wife, Alexander Warner Steven (b. 13 Jul 1821 at Avondale, Lanarshire, Scotland, d. 30 Jun 1898 at Wheaton, Du Page Co., IL; interred there) son of James and Janet (McGaan) Steven, on 26 September 1878 at Milton, Du Page County, Illinois and had the following son:

 

(2. Hiram Allen Steven: Born 16 February 1880.

 

(3. Robert Bliss Steven: Born 28 October 1881 at Wheaton, Du Page County, Illinois.  Died May 1923 at Coushatta Bayou, Red River Parish, Louisiana.

 

Alexander Steven had married (1st) Elizabeth "Betsy" Fry on 22 May 1845 in Du Page County, Illinois and had at least 12 children.

 

c. Albert Drake: Born December 1842 in New York.  Perhaps died before 1860.

 

2. David H. Drake: Married Sue E. Hance (more info) (b. 8 Jul 1947 in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence Co., NY, d. 8 May 2008 from complications of cancer; interred Riverside Cemetery, Rossie Twp, St. Lawrence Co.), daughter of Arnold J. and Pearl (Coolidge) Hance, on 16 August 1969 at St. James Church, Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York and had the following daughter:
