Born between 1770 and 1780.  Died between 1836 and 1846 in New York.  Like presumed brother, Henry, Reuben was an early resident of LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Married Cornelia Farwell b. 1 Mar 1808 in Canandaigua Twp, Ontario Co., NY, d. 4 Sep 1886 in Waukon Twp, Allamakee Co., IA), daughter of Joseph Farwell (d. 2 Jun 1821 in Ontario Co., NY), on 27 January 1823 and had the following children:

 

(1. LeRoy Drake: Born 20 July 1829 in Arcadia Township, Wayne County, New York.

 

1850 US Census: LeRoy Drake, age 20 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, resided in the household headed by James W. Pennington, age 45 (b. England) in the Village of Arcadia, Wayne County, New York.  Of interest, the household also included LeRoy's brother, Nelson Drake, age 14 (b. NYS), with no recorded occupation; and Peter Spoor, age 19 (b. NYS) and employed as a shoemaker.

 

1855 NYS Census: No record found.

 

1860 US Census: LeRoy Drake, age 31 (b. NYS) and employed as a clerk, was heading a household in Arcadia township (Arcadia Pos Office), Wayne County, New York.  His personal property was valued at $100.  The household also included his wife, Eliza Drake, age 28 (b. NYS), whose real estate was valued at $300; son, Harry Drake, age 10 (b. NYS) and in school; and son, Nelson Drake, age 6 (b. NYS).

 

1865 NYS Census: No record found.

 

LeRoy Drake married, as her 1st husband, Eliza D. Lamoreaux (b. 1832), daughter of Thomas L. and Hannah F. (Gee) Lamoreaux (French Huguenot ancestry), in Wayne County, New York and had the following children:

 

(a. Harry R. Drake: Born 20 April 1851 at East Newark, Arcadia Township, Wayne County, New York.  Died 1921; interred Newark Cemetery, Newark Township, Wayne County, New York.  Educated there in the Union School and Academy; also taught school for several years.  Subsequently engaged in the grocery trade and manufacturing; proprietor of H. R. Drake & Sons, Inc., a paper box manufacturing plant.

 

1880 US Census: Harry R. Drake, age 29 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a teamster, was heading a household in the Village of Newark, Wayne County, New York.  The household also included his wife of less than 1 year, Mary Drake, age 21 (b. NYS; father b. England; mother b. NYS); and Hannah M. Decker, age 39 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and single.

 

1892 NYS Census: Harry R. Drake, age 41 (b. US) and employed as a foy? manufacturer, was heading a household in Arcadia Township, Wayne County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Drake, age 33 (b. US); son, Albert A. Drake, age 11? (b. US); and son, Charles H. Drake, age 7 (b. US).

 

1905 NYS Census: Harry R. Drake, age 54 (b. US) was heading a household in Newark Township, Wayne County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Drake, age 46 (b. US); son, Charles H. Drake, age 19 (b. US); and son, James Leroy Drake, age 5 (b. US).

 

1910 US Census: Harry R. Drake, age 58 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a manufacturer of paper boxes, was heading a household at 2 High Street in the Village of Newark, Arcadia Township, Wayne County, New York.  He had been married twice.  The household also included his wife of 30 years, Mary A. Drake, age 51 (b. NYS; father b. England; mother b. NYS), who had been married once and had had 3 children (all still alive); and son, LeRoy J. Drake, age 10 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

1915 NYS Census: Harry R. Drake, age 64, was heading a household in Arcadia Township, Wayne County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Drake, age 56; and son, H. Leroy Drake, age 15.

 

Harry Drake married (1st) Eliza Mumford (b. abt 1850 in NYS, d. 1874) in 1870 and had the following daughter:

Harry R. Drake married (2nd) Mary A. Towlerton (b. 1859, d. 1931; interred with Harry), daughter of James and Caroline Adeline (Fitch) Towlerton of Wolcott, Wayne County, New York, in 1879 and had the following children:

(?) Jenkins and had the following children:

1850 US Census: Peter, age 48, resided with Henry Drake, age 87, in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included John Van Allen, age 22 [probably son of Jacob Van Allen, gen 4 of the Van Allen Annex].

 

1855 NYS Census: P. F. Drake, age 53 (b. Dutchess Co., NY; had resided in LeRay Twp, Jefferson Co., NY for 8 yrs) and unemployed, was a member of the household headed by his brother, Jeremiah Van Rensselaer Drake, age 37 and employed as a farmer, in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Peter was neither married nor a widower.

 

1860 US Census: Age 60; resided with his son, Jeremiah V. Drake.

 

1865 NYS Census: Peter H. (sp) Drake, age 63? (b. Dutchess Co., NY), employed as a farmer, and never married, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He owned 100 acres of improved land and 90 acres of unimproved land, valued together at $7,650.  The household also included servant Mary Vroman, age 47 (b. Albany Co., NY) and the mother of 1; and servant Charles Clock, age 14 (b. Jefferson Co., NY).

 

1870 US Census: Peter F. Drake, age 68, b. NYS, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in LeRay Township.  The household also included Richard Sikes (age 51, b. England); Mary Sikes (age 37, b. NYS); Lillia A. Sikes (age 4); and Henry Drake (age 20, employed as a farm hand).  Jeremiah Drake and his family resided next door.

 

1875 NYS Census: Peter F. Drake, age 75 (b. Dutchess Co., NY), single, and employed as a farm laborer, was heading a household (in a log cabin) in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

(2. Isaac Drake: (more info) Born about 1805 in Dutchess County, New York.  Died 7 March 1895 in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  About 1820 moved with his parents from Dutchess County, New York to Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1840 US Census: Isaac, age 30-40, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included 1 female under age 5 and 1 female age 15 to 20.

 

1850 US Census: Isaac, age 45 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township.  The household also included his wife, Sally, age 40; daughter, Sally Jane, age 16; daughter, Angiline, age 15; daughter, Caroline M., age 10; son, Alexander H., age 5; and Kitty Gross, age 77 and blind (relationship not given).

 

1855 NYS Census: Isaac Drake, age 49 (b. Dutchess Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had resided in Philadelphia Township for 33 years.  The household also included his wife, Sally A. Drake, age 45 (b. Rensselaer Co., NY), who had resided in Philadelphia Township for 25 years; daughter, Agelica Drake, age 18 (b. Jefferson Co., NY; resided Philadelphia Twp 18 yrs); daughter, Caroline M. Drake, age 13 (b. Jefferson Co., NY, who had resided Philadelphia Twp 13 yrs); son Alexander Drake, age 10 (b. Jefferson Co., NY; resided Philadelphia Twp 10 yrs); and mother, Ann Grosse, age 82 (b. Rensselaer Co., NY; resided Philadelphia Twp 24 yrs) and a widow.

 

1860 US Census: Isaac, age 54, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Sally A. Drake, age 50; daughter, Caroline Drake, age 19; and son, Alexander Drake, age 14.

 

1865 NYS Census: Isaac Drake, age 59 (b. Dutchess Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Sally A. Drake, age 55 (b. Albany Co., NY) and mother of 6; daughter, Caroline M. Drake, age 23 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and single; son, Alexander Drake, age 18 (b. Jefferson Co., NY); and granddaughter, Eva (illegible), age 8 (b. Jefferson Co., NY).

Dutchess Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Sally Drake, age 65 (b. Rensselaer Co., NY); son, Alexander Drake, age 29 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and employed as a farmer; son-in-law, Daniel Cooper, age 45 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and employed as a farm laborer; daughter, Ann Cooper, age 39 (b. Jefferson Co., NY); granddaughter, Inez? Cooper, age 9 (b. Jefferson Co., NY); daughter, Edde Cooper, age 6 (b. (2) Edwin Alonzo Drake: (more info) Born 12 February 1877 at home on Sandy Hollow Road near the Village of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died Thursday, 16 January 1958, age 80, in the Village of Philadelphia; interred (New) Evans Mills Cemetery.  Until 1911 Edwin operated a farm on Elm Ridge Road outside the Village of Philadelphia.  After that, for 1 year Edwin ran a lunchroom and bowling alley at Copenhagen, New York with his brother-in-law, Henry Hagan.  In 1912 Edwin opened Drake’s General Store in the Village of Philadelphia.  Also served as Philadelphia Township Clerk for 32 years.  Retired in 1945, following which, for 8 years he assisted his son, Chester, with his electric business.  Resided at 9 Clark Street, Philadelphia.

1860 US Census: Jeromiah, age 6, resided with his parents in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1870 US Census: Jeromiah, age 16, resided with his parents in LeRay Township, Jefferson County.

 

1900 US Census: Felix, age 46 (b. Mar 1854 in NYS, as were his parents) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 22 years, Cora, age 39 (b. Jan 1861 in NYS, as were her parents; had had 1 child, still living); son, Milton Drake, age 14 (b. Jun 1885); and cousin, Milo Drake, age 48 (b. Feb 1852), widowed, and employed as a farm laborer.

 

1905 NYS Census: Jeremiah F. Drake, age 51, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cora Drake, age 44; and son, Milton A. Drake, age 19.

 

1910 US Census: Jeremiah F. Drake (age 56 and widowed, resided in the household headed by his brother-in-law, Jacob Van dewater, age 75, on Gallows Road in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included Jacob’s wife, Milisa O. (Drake) Van de Water, age 63; and servant,  Emma Gardner, age 20 and single [dau of Jacob C. Gardner and granddaughter of Edwin Gardner].

 

1910 US Census: Cora Drake, age 49, was living alone in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1915 NYS Census: Jeremiah F. Drake, age 61, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1920 US Census: Of interest, there was a Jerimiah Drake, age 64, boarding in the farming household of Jason Lyons/Lyon on Woods Settlement Road in Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He was employed as a miller in a mill he owned, b. in N.Y.S., as were his parents.  The household also included Jason’s wife, Candice Lyon, age 52.

 

1920 US Census: Cora P. Drake, age 58 (b. NYS, as were her parents) and widowed, was living alone at 906 Academy Street, Watertown.

 

1930 US Census: Felix Drake, age 76, divorced, 1st m. age 21, employed as a miller in a grist mill, was boarding in the household headed by John J. Randall (age 63, employed as a wood worker in a wood shop) on the Wilna to Antwerp Road in Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included John’s wife, Carrie L. Randall (age 61); and granddaughter, Olive Sutherland (age 14).

 

Jeremiah Felix Drake married Cora F. Petrie (b. Jan 1861), daughter of Sylvester Petrie, and resided in Pamelia Township, Jefferson County; subsequently divorced.  Jeremiah and Cora had the following son:

 

[1. Milton Arthur Drake: (more info) Born 26 June 1885 in Theresa Township, Jefferson County, New York (also seen: b. Evans Mills, NY).  Died 29 September 1957, age 72, at St. Petersburg, Florida.  Attended Evans Mills schools.  In 1927 moved his family to St. Petersburg.  At some point was employed as a sheet metal worker for George H. Gleason.

 

1905 NYS Census: Milton A. Drake, age 19, resided with his parents in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1910 US Census: Milton, age 27, was employed as operator of a tin smith and plumbing shop.  He had been married to Cora L., age 30, for less than a year and they resided on Joseph Street in the Village of Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1915 NYS Census: Milton Drake, age 30, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cora P. Drake, age 36.

 

1920 US Census: Milton, age 36, was employed as a metal worker in a plumbing shop.  He resided with Cora, age 40, at 246 N. Hamilton Street, Watertown, New York.

 

1930 US Census: Milton A. Drake, age 44 and employed as a shipping clerk for a wholesale house, was heading a household at 136 57th Avenue North, Pinellas County, Florida.  He was married 1st at age 24.  The household also included his wife, Cora Drake, age 50, who was married 1st at age 30.

 

1940 US Cenus: Milton A. Drake, age 54 and employed as a plumbing supplies salesman, was heading a household on 57th Avenue, Pinellas County, Florida.  He had completed 4 years of high school.  The household also includes his wife, Cora Drake, age 60, who had completed 1 year of high school.

 

Milton Arthur Drake married Cora P./L. (?) about 1910.  A daughter was described as the widow of S. Mather Wright.  Since S. Mather Wright married Vera Belle Rathbun, daughter of Herbert M. and Mae (Klock) Rathbun, on 5 September 1925 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York., Milton and Cora raised the following daughter:

 

[a. Vera Belle Rathbun: Married Simeon Mather Wright, son of Frank E. and Alida E. (Mather) Wright.  Simeon was a 1922 graduate of Cornell University, where he earned a degree majoring in mechanical engineering.  Vera and Simeon resided at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

 

Milton and Cora (?) Drake were divorced.  Cora married (2nd) (?) Mumma and in 1929 resided at 906 Academy Street, Watertown, New York.

 

Jeremiah V. Drake married (2nd), probably as her (2nd) husband, Nancy A. Thrasher (b. abt 1819), daughter of William Thrasher (b. abt 1793), before 1870.  Of interest, a Joseph S. Thrasher (b. abt 1842, employed as a carpenter) resided with them in 1870; perhaps Nancy’s nephew or much younger brother.  Cora (Petrie) Drake apparently married (2nd) Dr. E. M. Crabb.

 

(8. Sila "Sally" Drake: Born 1822/1811 in New York State.  Died 4 January 1899 in Burling Township, Des Moines County, Iowa.  Married Alanson Porter (b. 27 February 1806 in NYS, d. 1870), son of Asa (b. 27 Aug 1782 in MA, d. 19 Nov 1867 at Northville, LaSalle Co., IL) and Hannah (?) Porter, and had the following children:

 

(a. Septimus/Septimius Porter: (photos) Born 8 June 1831 in St. Lawrence County, New York.  Died 18 May 1912 at Onaway, Presque Isle County, Michigan.  In 1901 resided at Moreland?, Michigan.  Married Louise/Louisa Jane Shimmel (b. 8 Sep 1834 in Jefferson Co., NY, d. 8 Oct 1926 at Onaway, Presque Isle Co., MI), daughter of Jacob (b. 8 Jan 1800 at Minden, Montgomery Co., NY, d. 17 May 1887 at Ravenna, Muskegon Co., MI) and Margaret (House) Shimmel (b. 21 Apr 1806 in NYS, d. 6 Mar 1849 at LeRay Twp, Jefferson Co., NY), and had the following children:

 

(1) Albert Melvin Porter: Born 22 April 1855 in Jefferson County, New York State.  Died 9 July 1936 at Onaway, Presque Isle County, Michigan; interred Ravenna, Muskegon County, Michigan.  Married Phila Ann (?) (b. 1862, d, 1934; interred with Albert).

 

(2) Alice Augusta Porter: Born March 1857 in New York State.  Died 7 April 1911 at Allis, Presque Isle County, Michigan; interred Onaway, Presque Isle County, Michigan.  Married Mervin Ashley Smith (b. 11 Nov 1850 in IA, d. 22 Jul 1918 in MI) on 10 October 1875 in Moorland Township, Muskegon County, Michigan.

 

(3) Myron E./D. Porter: Born July 1861 in Jefferson County, New York State.  Died 27 February 1929 in Onaway Township, Presque Isle County, Michigan; interred there.  Married Harriet "Hattie" Mary Cochran (b. 1867, d. 1948).

 

(4) Norman Leroy Porter: Born December 1863/66.  Died 1937; interred Onaway Township, Presque Isle County, Michigan.

 

(5) Vernon W. Porter: Born 1 April 1887 in Michigan.  Died 25 March 1947.
