2.  Will’s birth: 7/17 January 1920 on the family farm between Evans Mills and LeRaysville, Jefferson County, New York.

 

Will’s death: 13 January 2008 from complications of heart failure at his daughter’s home after a period of failing health, the latter stages of which were with supplemental oxygen; was conscious for his birthday, but slipped into a coma shortly thereafter and slept peacefully to the end.

9.  Other biographical notes on Will:

 

a. Wolcott was just a few weeks older than his cousin, Ekard Almond Drake, who lived directly across the street from him.  As a result, the two boys grew up like brothers throughout their youth.

 

b. Survivied several heart attacks later in life, including one in late May 1996.

 

10. Census records for Will:

 

1930 US Census: Wolcott E. Drake, age 10, resided with his parents in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1940 US Census: Wolcoww Drake, age 20 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a general clerk in a foundry office, resided in the household headed by  his brother-in-law, Truman Rowell, age 30 (b. NYS) and employed as a gas station attendant at 70 Evergreen Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  Wolcoww had completed 4 years of high school.  Truman had completed 1 year of college.  The household also included Truman's wife, Ruth Rowell, age 23 (b. NYS), who had completed 1 year of college.  On 1 April 1935 Truman resided in the same city, whereas Ruth and Wolcoww resided in Jefferson County, New York.

 

1942 WWII Draft Registration: Wolcott E. Drake enlisted for the duration of the War on 17 February 1942 at Ft Niagara, Youngstown, New York.  Had 1 year of college.  Occupation: paymaster, payroll clerk, timekeeper.  Serial number: 32234565
