1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 11 February 1753 at Norwich, Connecticut.  Died 24 September 1834.  Moved to Vermont with his parents in 1775.  Employed there as a farmer and inn keeper.  Was also Captain of a military company during the Revolutionary War that fought at the Battle of Bennington, Vermont.  Elected 1781 as Sheriff of Bennington County.  Then State Counselor in 1793, and Judge of the County Court in 1795.  Served as Governor of Vermont from 1809 to 1812.

Born about 1816 in New York State.  Died in Michigan.

 

1850 US Census: No record found in Michigan.  Amos Galusha should be married and have a 3 year-old daughter, Mary.  Of interest, there was an Amos Galusha, age 33 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, heading a household in Fort Edward Township, Washington County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $1,000.  The household also included Ellen Galusha, age 16 (b. NYS).  That Amos Galusha resided adjacent to the farming households headed by Ruben Galusha, age 33 (b. NYS) and Ira Galusha, age 27 (b. NYS).

 

1860 US Census: Amos Galusha, age 44 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Walton Township, Eaton County, Michigan.  His real estate was valued at $1,000 and his personal property was valued at $300.  The household also included his wife, Rhoana Galusha, age 41 (b. NYS); daughter, Mary E. Galusha, age 13 (b. MI); son, Simeon O. Galusha, age 10 (b. MI); son, Edwin Galusha, age 6 (b. MI); and son, Charles S. Galusha, age 4 (b. MI).

NYS) and employed keeping house, was heading a household in Walton Township (Olivet Post Office), Eaton County, Michigan.  Her real estate was valued at $1,200 and her personal property was valued at $350.  The household also included her son, Edwin Galusha, age 16 (b. MI); and son, Seward Galusha, age 14 (b. MI).

Born 19 September 1853 at Olivet, Walton Township, Eaton County, Michigan.  Died 4 December 1935, age 82, in Napoleon Township, Jackson County, Michigan; interred South Jackson Cemetery.  Veteran of the US Civil War; 1st regiment of Michigan Sharpshooters.  In 1883 was employed as a carpenter.

 

1870 US Census: Edwin Galusha, age 16, resided with his mother in Walton Township, Eaton County, Michigan.

 

1880 US Census: Edwin Galusha, age 25 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household in the City of Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan.  He had heart disease.  The household also included his wife, Eva M. Galusha, age 24 (b. MI; father b. NYS; mother b. MI); son, Joseph Galusha, age 5 months (b. Jan 1880 in MI; parents b. MI); and Altha Rice, age 40 (b. MI; parents b. NYS), widowed, and employed as .

 

1900 US Census: Edwin A. Galusha, age 46 (b. Sep 1853 in MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Leslie township, Ingham County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife of 15 years, Emogene Galusha, age 48 (b. Oct 1851 in MI; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, still alive; son, Joseph Galusha, age 20 (b. Jan 1879 in MI; parents b. MI), single, and employed as a farm laborer; and son, Leon P. Galusha, age 11 (b. Feb 1889 in MI; parents b. NYS) and in school.

 

1910 US Census: Edward A. Galusha, age 56 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Napoleon Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  He had been married twice.  The household also included his wife of 25 years, Emogene Galusha, age 58 (b. MI; parents b. NYS), who had been married once and had had 1 child, still alive; son, Joseph Galusha, age 27 (b. MI; parents b. MI), single, and employed as a farmer; and son, Leon Galusha, age 22 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and single, with no occupation recorded.

 

1920 US Census: Edwin A. Galusha, age 67 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Stone Lake Road in Napolean Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Emogene Galusha, age 69 (b. MI; parents b. NYS); son, Leon P. Galusha, age 31 (b. MI; parents b. MI), single, and employed as a laborer on the home farm; and boarder, Clara M. Frasier, age 24 (b. IL; father b. PA; mother b. IL) and single, with no occupation recorded.

 

1930 US Census: Edwin A. Galusha, age 76 (b. MI; father b. VT; mother b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on North Stony Lake Road in Napolean Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  He was married 1st at age 22.  The household also included his wife, Emogene Galusha, age 78 (b. MI; parents b. NYS), who was married 1st at age 34; son, Leon P. Galusha, age 42 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and employed as a farm laborer; and servant, Carrie M. Frasier, age 34 (b. IL; father b. PA; mother b. IL), single, and employed as by a private family.

NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Liberty Township (Liberty Mills Post Office), Jackson County, Michigan.  His real estate was valued at $10,000 and his personal property was valued at $400.  The household also included his wife, Maria Palmer, age 45 (b. NYS); daughter, Cornelia Palmer, age 27 (b. MI) and employed as a school teacher; daughter, Emogene Palmer, age 18 (b. MI); son, Elmore Palmer, age 16 (b. MI); daughter, Isabelle Palmer, age 13 (b. Galusha, age 52 (b. MI), single, and employed as a farmer, who had completed 1 year of high school; and her ward, Clara M. Frasier, age 44 (b. IL) and single.
