John Gancell on 17 January 1701 and had bequeathed to
her brother, Jacob, who, shortly thereafter, further distributed that farm to
his 3 brothers.

Queens County, New York. Died 27 April 1747 at Middleton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Inherited, with brother
Samuel, about ½ of his father's farm on 9 January 1723. Married Rebekah

abt 1690) in New York.

Died there 23 December 1738 from complications of smallpox, the symptoms
of which presented in Samuel 14 December 1738; the disease was thought to have
arrived at Newtown in a Scottish vessel.

acquired land for him from J. Lynch. Orphaned very young; subsequently raised by an uncle. In 1845 moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to
study law. In 1860 was employed as an
attorney in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (58 miles north of Milwaukee). From 1866 to 1870 was a judge in Wisconsin
and Colorado.
1860 US Census: William R. Gorsline, age 36 (b. NY)
and employed as a lawyer, was heading a household in the City of Sheboygan,
Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. His real
estate was valued at $1,400, and his personal property was valued at $500. The household also included his wife, Julia
F. Gorsline, age 23 (b. NY); son, Frederick Gorsline, age 1 (b. WI); Caroline
Newcomb, age 17 (b. NY); Augusta Newcomb, age 18 (b. Prussia) and employed as a
domestic servant; and Ernstina Newcomb, age 30 (b.
Prussia) and employed as a seamstress.
1870 US Census: William Gorsline, age 46 (b. NYS)
and employed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, was heading a
household in Central City, Gilpin County, Colorado. His real estate was valued at $3,500, and his
personal property was valued at $3,000.

a trainman for the LV Railroad Company at Sayre, Pennsylvania, resided with his
wife at 218 Desmond Street, Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
1920 US Census: Lester Gorslaine,
age 27 (b. PA; parents b. PA), single, and employed as an engine hostler for a
railroad company, resided in the household headed by his grandmother, Mercy A. Gorslaine, age 79 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, at
78 Pitney Street in South Waverly Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
1930 US Census: Lester Gorsline, age 40 (b. PA;
parents b. PA) and employed as a hostler for the steam railroad round house,
was heading a household in Sayre Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He married 1st at age 31. The household also included his wife, Stella
Gorsline, age 27 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who married 1st at age 18; daughter,
Alice Gorsline, age 8 (b. PA); son, Charles Gorsline, age 7 (b. PA); daughter,
Lucy Gorsline, age 4 years and 2 months (b. PA); and son, Johnie
Gorsline, age 2 months (b. PA).

1942 WWI Draft Registration: Lester Hamilton
Gorsline, age 53 (b. 15 Dec 1889 at Towanda, PA) resided at 19 Thomas Street,
Waverly, Tioga County, New York. He
designated his daughter, Alice May Gorsline of 12 Edward Street, Athens,
Bradford County, Pennsylvania, as someone who would always know his address.
1950 US Census: No record found.
At age 26 Lester H. Gorsline married (1st) Florence
Emery (b. 1891, d. young), age 25, daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Myers)
Emery (b. Wilkes Barre, Luzerne Co., PA), on 16 June
1916 (license issued same day) at Newark, Newark Valley Township, Tioga County,
New York.
Lester Gorsline married (2nd) Stella M. Vanderpool (b. 21 Apr 1904 in Bradford Co., PA, d. 3 Feb
1931 (per gravestone) at Sayre, Bradford Co., PA; interred with Lester),
daughter of Curtis H. and Viola (?) Vanderpool about
1921 and had the following children:
(a. Alice Mae Gorsline:
Born 1922. Died 2000. After her mother died in 1931, was raised in
an orphanage and (perhaps) by foster parents.
1940 US Census: Alice Gorslin,
age 17 (b. PA) and employed as a maid, resided in the household headed by
Bernard Cohen, age 31 (b. NYS) and employed as manager of a variety store, in
Athens Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Alice Gorsline married Clyde A. May (b. 1920, d.
1999).

Gorsline: Born 6 May 1923 at Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Died 13 August 1993; interred Evergreen
Cemetery, Berkshire Township, Tioga County, New York. After his mother died in 1931, was raised in
an orphanage and by foster parents. Veteran of World War II.
1940 US Census: Charles Gorsline, age 16 (b. PA),
single, and employed as a farm laborer, resided in the household headed by his
step-father, Claud Michael, age 33 (b. PA) and
employed as a farm operator in North Towanda Township, Bradford County,
Pennsylvania. The household also
included Claud's wife, Ethel Michael, age 25 (b. PA);
brother-in-law, Gerald Kennedy, age 24 (b. PA); and sister-in-law, Mabel
Kennedy, age 19 (b. PA).
Charles Gorsline married Esther Avis Rogers (b. 15
Nov 1925 at Nichols, Tioga Co., NY, d. 17 Nov 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital,
Sayre, Bradford Co., PA; interred with Charles), daughter of Grover and Ora (Marsh) Rogers, and had the following children: (order uncertain)

Lester resided in Athens Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The household also included 2 other foster
children.

Born 1930 in Sayre Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Died 16 November 1990. After her mother died in 1931, After his mother died in 1931, was raised in an orphanage
and by foster parents.
1940 US Census: Johnny Gorsline, age 10 (b. PA) and
in school, resided in the household Richard Havens, age 29 (b. PA) and employed
as a laborer in a feed mill, at Columbia Cross Roads, Columbia Township,
Bradford County, Pennsylvania (no relation to head of household recorded). On 1 April 1935 all in the household resided
in the same township.
1950 US Census: John Gorsline, age 20 (b. PA) and
employed as a truck driver for a retail feed store, resided as a lodger in the
household headed by Richard Haven, age 39 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, in
Columbia Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

his father, Ike H. Gorsline, age 73 (b. PA) and widowed, who had completed 8th
grade; nephew, Harvey Smith, age 21 (b. PA) and employed as a dye worker in a
knitting mill, who had completed 8th grade; and housekeeper, Sadda Spaulding, age 48 (b. NYS), and widowed, who had
completed 8th grade. On 1 April 1935
they resided in the same township.
(9. Rex R. Gorsline: Born 1907. Died 1955. Married Dorothy Mary Spaulding (b. 1915, d.
2004), daughter of John and Vadda (Brewer) Spaulding,
on 24 November 1931 in Broome County, New York.

(Morris) Lyon (b. 1892, d. 1951 at Johnson City, Broome Co., NY), age 22 and a
resident of Spencer, Tioga County, New York, daughter of George and Jane
(Bailey) Morris of Overton, Pennsylvania, on 11 November 1914 (license issued
same day) in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
