VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in South Ottawa Township, LaSalle County, Illinois.  His real estate was valued at $300.  The household also included his wife, Sarah A. Ward, age 43 (b. NYS); John C. W. Phelps (b. MS); Ira J. Phelps, age 7 (b. (TX); John J. Ward, age 3 (b. IL); Lucy Ward, age 1 (b. IL); Hanah Smith, age 25 (b. NYS); and Theodore B. Smith.

 

1870 US Census: Frederick Ward, age 53 (b. VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Sunfield Township (Vermontville Post Office), Eaton County, Michigan.  His real estate was valued at $1,000 and his personal property was valued at $100.  The household also included his wife, Sarah Ward, age 52 (b. Grinnell, age 28 (b. MI; parents b. Ireland) and employed as a pianist in a theater, who had had 4 children, 3 of whom were still alive and had been married once; son, Herbert M. Grinnell, age 7 (b. MI; parents b. MI); son, Francis A. Grinnell, age 5 (b. MI); daughter, Ruth E. Grinnell, age 1 year and 5 months (b. MI); aunt, Mary Philipps, age 52 (b. 1930 US Census: Francis Grinnell, age 24 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and employed as a musician in a dance orchestra, was heading a household in the City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.  He was married 1st at age 21.  The household also included his wife, Adela L. Grinnell, age 25 (b. MA; parents b. MA), who was married 1st at age 22; son, Allan J. Grinnell, age 1 year and 5 months (b. MI); son, Richard Grinnell, age 4 months (b. MI); and maid, Margaret Brasjalla, age 16 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and single.

 

1940 US Census: Francis Grinnell, age 34 (b. MI) and employed as a salesman for a music house, was heading a household at 5977 Audubon Avenue in the City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.  He had completed 4 years of high school and resided in the same house in April 1935.  The household also included his wife, Adele, age 35 (b.
