Born 25 October 1806 in Germany.  Died 19 February 1879, age 72; interred Carleton Cemetery, Carleton, Ash Township, Monroe County, Michigan.  Immigrated to the US in 1857.

 

1860 US Census: Christopher Hise, age 54 (b. Germany) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Ash Township (Newport Post Office), Monroe County, Michigan.  His real estate was valued at $600, and his personal property was valued at $400.  The household also included his wife, Matilda Hise, age 48 (b. Germany); daughter, Hanah Hise, age 23 (b. Germany); son, John Hise, age 24 (b. Germany); daughter, Mary Hise, age 19 (b. Germany); son, Godfroy Hise, age 18 (b. MI), who had been married once (no record of children).

Jul 1867 in MI; parents b. Germany), who had had 4 children, 2 of whom were still alive; son, Stanley Heiss, age 4 (b. MI); daughter, Alice Heiss, age 1 (b. MI); and boarder, John Lange, age 17 (b. IL; parents b. Germany), single, and employed as a day laborer.  Of interest, the household headed by his mother, Barbara Heiss, age 58 (b. Feb 1842 in Germany) was enumerated next door on the same census page.

Germany) and employed as the Village Night Watchman, was heading a household on Spicer Street in the Village of Carleton, Ash Township, Monroe County, Michigan.  He married 1st at age 28, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Caroline W. Heiss, age 61 (b. MI; parents b. Germany), who married 1st at age 25.

MI; parents b. MI), who married 1st at age 18; son, Orville Heiss, age 13 (b. MI); daughter, Evelyn Heiss, age 9 (b. MI); and daughter, Phillis Heiss, age 4 (b. MI). 

 

1940 US Census: Stanley Heiss, age 45 (b. MI) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Newberg Road in Ash Township, Monroe County, Michigan.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Leota Heiss, age 43 (b. MI), who had completed 8th grade; and daughter, Phyllis Heiss, age 14 (b. MI), who had completed 8th grade.  They resided in the same township on 1 April 1935.

 

1942 WWII Draft Registration: Stanley Martin Heiss, age 46 (b. 21 Jul 1895 in Ash Twp, MI) and employed as a farmer, resided at RR #1 Carleton, Monroe County, Michigan.  He named Orville Heiss as the person who would always know his address.

 

Stanley Heiss married Leota McLaughlin (more info) (b. 7 Mar 1897, d. 17 May 1956; interred with Stanley), daughter of Clarence and Abby (Brancheau/Brachan) McLaughlin, on 10 November 1915 and had the following children:
