Born 1828 in Canada.  Died 1910; interred Barnes Settlement Cemetery, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1865 NYS Census: Thomas Hodge, age 35 (b. Canada) and employed as a wheelwright, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Hannah Hodge, age 28 (b. Canada), who had had 5 children; son, Wilber Hodge, age 11 (b. Canada); son, Nepoleon Hodge, age 8 (b. Canada); daughter, Jane Hodge, age 5 (b. Canada); and daughter, Harriett Hodge, age 3 years and 6 months (b. Canada).

 

1875 NYS Census: Thomas Hodge, age 44 (b. Canada) and employed as wheelwright, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Hannah M. Hodge, age 42 (b. Canada); son, Napoleon Hodge, age 18 (b. Canada), single, and employed as a farm laborer; daughter, Jane Hodge, age 16 (b. Canada) and single; and daughter, Harriett Hodge, age 14 (b. Canada).

 

1880 US Census: Hannah M. Hodge, age 48 (b. Canada; parents b. NYS), married [husband not enumerated with her], and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included her son, Wilbern Hodge, age 28 (b. Canada; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada) and employed as a farm laborer; and brother, Daniel Burtch, age 32 (b. Canada; parents b. NYS) and widowed, who had consumption.  Of interest, the household that included her daughter-in-law, Sarah Hodge, age 24, was enumerated next door.

1900 US Census: Wilbur Hodge, age 46 (b. English-speaking Canada; parents b. English-speaking Canada) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rodman Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He immigrated to the US in 1867 and was subsequently naturalized.  The household also included his wife of 18 years, Cornelia Hodge, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 6 children, 4 of whom were still alive; son, Robert H. Hodge, age 17 (b. NYS) and employed as a farm laborer; son, Floyd S. Hodge, age 13 (b. NYS); son, Thomas H. Hodge, age 4 (b. NYS); and daughter, Thelma I. Hodge, age 11 months (b. NYS).

 

1905 NYS Census: Wilbur Hodge, age 53 (b. US) was heading a household in Rodman Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cornelia Hodge, age 45 (b. US); son, Robert H. Hodge, age 22 (b. US); son, Floid L. Hodge, age 18 (b. US); son, Thomas H. Hodge, age 9 (b. US); and daughter, Thelma Hodge, age 5 (b. US).

 

1910 US Census: Wilburn Hodge, age 58 (b. English-speaking Canada; parents b. English-speaking Canada) and employed as a laborer doing odd jobs, was heading a household in Wyndmere Township, Richland County, North Dakota.  He immigrated to the US in 1863 (subsequently naturalized), and he had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 28 years, Cornelia Hodge, age 50 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had been married once and had had 4 children, all still alive; son, Harrison Hodge, age 14 (b. NYS); daughter, Thelma Hodge, age 10 (b. NYS); and boarder, Earl Beebe, age 23 (b. IA; parents b. IL), single, and employed as a farmer.  Of interest, their son, Floyd Hodge, age 22, resided as a farm laborer with a nearby family, which was enumerated on the same census page.

 

1925 NYS Census: Wilbur Hodge (b. US) was heading a household in Hounsfield Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cornelia S. Hodge, age 65 (b. US).

 

Wilbur Hodge married Cornelia Skiner (b. Oct 1859 in NYS, d. 1927; interred with Wilbur) and had the following son:

 

(1. Robert H. Hodge: Born August 1882 in New York.  Died 1939; interred North Watertown Cemetery, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  At age 32 married Myrtle G. Shultz (b. abt 1892), age 23, daughter of George R. and Mary E. (Lario) Shultz, on 13 February 1915.

 

(2. Floyd S. Hodge: Born 22 February 1887/85 in the Village of Alexandria Bay, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died 5 January 1959 in the City of Roy, Weber County, Utah; interred Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber County, Utah.

 

1910 US Census: Floyd Hodge, age 22 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farm laborer, resided in the household headed by Simon P. Stuckey, age 28 (b. OH) and employed as a farmer, in Wyndmere Township, Richland County, North Dakota.  Of interest, the household headed by his father was enumerated on the same census page.

 

(3. Thomas Harrison Hodge: Born 22 August 1895 at LaFargeville, Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  In June 1917 was single and employed as a farm laborer in Wyndmere Township, Richland County, North Dakota.

 

1920 US Census: Thomas H.  Hodge, age 25 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Valley Springs Township, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.  The household also included his wife, Helen A. Hodge, age 25 (b. IL; father b. IL; mother b. Scotland) and employed as a public school teacher.

 

1930 US Census: Thomas H. Hodge, age 35 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Township 39, Bennett County, South Dakota.  He married 1st at age 25.  The household also included his wife, Helen A. Hodge, age 36 (b. IL; father b. IL; mother b. Scotland) and employed as a country school teacher, who married 1st at age 26; and daughter, Ruth E. Hodge, age 8 (b. SD).

 

1940 US Census: Thomas H. Hodge, age 44 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Bennett County, South Dakota.  He had completed 7th grade.  The household also included his wife, Helen Hodge, age 46 (b. IL) and employed as a public school teacher, who had completed 8th grade; and daughter, Ruth E. Hodge, age 18 (b. SD), who had completed 8th grade.

 

Thomas Hodge married Helen A. (?) (b. abt 1894 in IL) in 1921 and had the following daughter:

 

(a. Ruth E. Hodge: Born about 1922 in South Dakota.

 

(4. Thelma I. Hodge: Born June 1899 in Rodman Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Married Howard Arthur Decker (b. Champaign Co., OH) and had the following son:

 

(a. Howard Arthur Decker, Jr.: Born 23 January 1938 in Urbana Township, Champaign County, Ohio.  Died there 29 April 1938; interred there 30 April 1938 in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery.

1880 US Census: Of possible interest, there was a Jane Hodge, age 19 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada), single, and employed as a servant, resided in the household headed by William E. Catlin, age 35 (b. NYS) and employed as , in Hammond Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.

Born July 1857 on Grenadier Island (in the St. Lawrence River), Leeds and Grenville County, Canada.  Died 1927; interred Barnes Settlement Cemetery, Alexandria Bay, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Employed as a farmer.

 

1880 US Census: Margaret Gilmore, age 49 (b. NYS; father b. England; mother b. NYS), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included her daughter, Sarah Hodge, age 24 (b. NYS; father b. VT; mother b. NYS), married, and employed keeping house; grandson, Harrison G. Hodge, age 2 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and grandson, Geo O. Hodge, age 10 months (b. Jul 1879 in NYS; parents b. NYS).  Of interest, the household headed by Sarah's mother-in-law, Hannah Hodge, age 48, was enumerated next door.

Canada) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 23 years, Sarah Hodge, age 44 (b. 1920 US Census: Napolean Hodge, age 62 (b. Canada; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada), married, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York. [note: appears his father's birth location was recorded for him, and vice versa]  Napolean immigrated to the US in 1864 and became a naturalized citizen in 1880.  The household also included his son, Harrison Hodge, age 43 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farmer; son, Bert E. Hodge, age 39 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farmer; and daughter, Mildred Hodge, age 26 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a school teacher.

 

1925 NYS Census: Napeleon Hodge, age 68 (b. US), was heading a household on Goose Bay Road in the Village of Alexandria Bay, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his son, Harry Hodge, age 45 (b. US); son, Beet Hodge, age 41 (b. US); daughter, Milderd Hodge, age 32 (b. US); daughter, Katherine Hill, age 40 (b. US); granddaughter, Clara Hill, age 12 (b. US); grandson, Leon Hill, age 16 (b. 1940 US Census: Bert E. Hodge, age 58 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 2 years of high school, and his residence was valued at $5,100.  The household also included his brother, Harry G. Hodge, age 62 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a farmer, who had completed 8th grade; sister, Mildred M. Hodge, age 47 (b. NYS) and single, who had completed 1 year of college; nephew, Gordon Hill, age 17 (b. NYS) and single, who had completed 2 years of high school; ward, Miller Ellis, age 18 (b. NYS) and single, who had completed 8th grade; boarder, Walter Ellis, age 15 (b. NYS), who had completed 5th grade; boarder, Homer Randal, age 16 (b. Kruig (b. Plessis, NY), age 32 of Briar Hill, St. Lawrence County, New York and son of Ira (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and Isabel (Hagan) Kruig (b. Jefferson Co., NY), on 23 June 1925 in Theresa Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Married (2nd) William Strait and resided at Alexandria Bay, Jefferson County, New York.

 

3. Wife #2: Ella (Burgen) (?) Brown

 

Born about 1865 in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York; daughter of Oliver (b. Oswego Co., NY) and Matilda (Denninger) Burgen (b. Evans Mills, LeRay Twp, Jefferson Co., NY).  Died .  Married (1st) (?).  Married (2nd) (?) Brown.  At age 49 and while a resident of Alexandria Bay, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York, married (3rd) widower Napolean R. Hodge on 11 July 1914 (license issued 9 Jul 1914) in Jefferson County, New York.

 

4   Katherine "Kate" B. Hodge:

 

Born June 1884 in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died 1953, age 69, at Edward John Noble Hospital, Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Married Osceola H. Hill, generation 4 of the Hill Annex about 1907 in Jefferson County, New York.
