1. Biographical notes:

 

Born about 1794 in Germany.  Immigrated to the United States with his family in or after 1841.

 

1850 US Census: Valentine Horner, age 56 (b. Germany) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in West Monroe Township, Oswego County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $1,000.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Horner, age 44 (b. Germany); daughter, Elizabeth Horner, age 21 (b. Germany); son, Thomas Horner, age 19 (b. Germany); daughter, Rosette Horner, age 17 (b. Germany); daughter, Catharine Horner, age 15 (b. Germany); daughter, Eva Horner, age 12 (b. Germany; and daughter, Adaline Horner, age 9 (b. Germany).

 

1865 NYS Census: Valentine Horner, age 70 and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in West Monroe Township, Oswego County, New York.  He had been married twice.  The household also included his wife, Mary Ann Horner, age 60, who had been married once and had had 9 children; and daughter, Catherine Horner, age 30, single, and employed as a domestic.

Born about 1831 in Germany.

 

1860 US Census: Thomas Horner, age 30 (b. Baden, Germany) and employed as a cooper, was heading a household in the 11th Ward of the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  His personal property was valued at $60.   The household also included his wife, Christina Horner, age 27 (b. Baden, Germany); daughter, Mary Horner, age 3 (b. NYS); and son, Charles Horner, age 2 (b. NYS).

Born about 1859 in New York.

 

1860 US Census: Charles Horner, age 2, resided with his parents in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

 

1870 US Census: No record found.

 

1880 US Census: No record found.

 

1900 US Census: No record found.

 

1910 US Census: Charles Horner, age 51 (b. NYS; father b. Germany; mother b. NYS) and employed as manager of a box factory, was heading a household on Bromner Street in Richfield Township, Otsego County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 28 years, Fredricka Horner, age 48 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), who had had 8 children, 5 of whom were still alive; and son, Richard C. Horner, age 13 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

1920 US Census: Charles V. Horner, age 61 (b. NYS; father b. Germany; mother b. NYS) and employed as a maker in a box factory, was heading a household at 713 Oswego Street in Salina Township, Onondaga County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Fredrica R. Horner, age 57 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), who was employed as a telephone operator; and son, Richard C. Horner, age 23 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and single, who was employed as a machine operator for a machine manufacturer.

 

2. Wife: Fredrica/Fredricka R. Gansle (photos)

 

Born about 1863 in New York; daughter of John and Fredrica (Keefer) Gansle.  Died .

 

1880 US Census: Fredreka Gansling, age 18 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), single, and employed as servant, resided in the household headed by Carroll E. Smith, age 47 (b. NYS) at 98 West Onondaga Street in the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.  Of interest, there was also a Minnie Gansler, age 17 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), single, and employed as a servant, residing in the household headed by Arthur V. Meeker in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.

a. Florence Horner: (photos) Died 15 August 1947.  Married Walter Sweet, son of C. J. Sweet (photos), and had the following children: (order uncertain)

 

(1. Robert Arthur Sweet: (photos) Born 7 March 1912.

 

(2. Mildred Sweet: Born 1914. (photos)  Married (?) Neilson and (perhaps) had the following children:

 

(a. Thomas “Tommy” Neilson.

 

(b. Richard Neilson.

 

b. Mable Carrie Horner: (photos) Born 29 August 1883.  In April 1910 was 26 years old, single, and residing in the household headed by her brother-in-law, David Philip Bennett in the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.  Married Elmer Carhart.

d. Lelia Horner: (photos) Married Lynn Van Patten. 

 

e. Richard “Dick” Charles Horner: (photos) Married Anna/Ann (?) and had the following daughter:

Born 28 October 1885.  Died 1 November 1918, age 33 years, 4 days.  Married, as his 1st wife, David Philip Bennett, generation 3 of the Bennett Annex on 12 June/July 1904.
