a. John Kennedy, Sr.: Born about 1730 in Ireland.  Died 1813/14 at the home of his daughter, Mary Gordon, near the Pulaski, Brick Church neighborhood, Giles County, Tennessee.  Moved to Kentucky in 1775.  Married Elizabeth (?) and had the following children:

 

(1. John Kennedy, Jr.: (more info) Born 16 April 1753 in Rowan County, North Carolina.  Died 26 December 1780 (killed by Indians) at Cumberland Gap, Kentucky.  Veteran of the American Revolutionary War; served as a Captain and was one of Daniel Boone's "30 guns," who cut the road through the wilderness from Long Island in the Upper Holston, just south of the present line between Virginia and Tennessee, to Boones Borough, and assisted in building the fort there.  John's cabin was one of the 1st 3 built outside the fort in 1775.  Married, as her 1st husband, Mary Anderson (b. 1757/59, d. 24 Jan 1823), daughter of John and Ann (Irvine) Anderson, on 15 April 1780 at Fort Boones Borough, Kentucky and had the following daughter:

 

(a. Nancy Kennedy: Born April 1781.  Married Samuel Kelley and raised a large family  on Clifty Creek in Pulaski County.

 

  Widow Mary (Anderson) Kennedy married (2nd) Captain Samuel Campbell (b. 1743, perhaps in Bedford Co., VA, d. 18 Mar 1821 in Madison Co., KY) on 12 April 1785.

 

(2. Margaret Kennedy: (more info) Born 19 March 1755 in North Carolina.  Died after 1880 in Garrard County, Kentucky (will dated there on 2 Nov 1825).  Married Thomas Faulkner, Sr. (will dated 2 Nov 1825) and had several children.

 

(3. Thomas M. Kennedy: (more info) Born 11 September 1757 in North Carolina.  Died 18 June 1836, age 79, at Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky.  Veteran of the American Revolutionary War; served a general officer, and was one of the 1st US Senators from Kentucky.  Had a 10,000 acre plantation at Paint Lick, Lancaster Township, Garrard County, Kentucky, on which stood Uncle Tom's Cabin, immortalized in the book authored by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

 

Thomas Kennedy married (1st) Agnes "Nancy" Ross (b. 1756, d. 21 Aug 1807, age 51; interred Paint Lick, KY), sister of Ambrose Ross and Hugh Ross, and had the following daughter:

Joseph Kennedy: (more info) Born 28 August 1760 in North Carolina.  Died 30 November 1844 in Garrard County, Kentucky; interred Elks Garden Cemetery, on Richmond Road, about 3 miles from Kirksville, Madison County, Kentucky.  Moved to Kentucky in 1776.  Veteran of the American Revolutionary War; served as a major.  Married (1st) Martha "Patsy" Perrin (d. abt 1799), daughter of Josephus Perrin, on 9 May 1788 in Lincoln County and had the following children:

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 1735 in Ireland.  Died 1 October 1825 at Lancaster, Madison County, Kentucky (also seen: d. Paint Lick, Garrard Co., TN); interred Paint Lick Cemetery, Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky (very close to Thomas Kennedy. Settled in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina.  Then was among the 1st settlers of Garrard County, Kentucky.  Reportedly had 13 children with 2 wives (the following children per his grandson, the Honorable David Newton Kennedy, in an 1898 letter from Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee; order uncertain).

John Kennedy married Barbara Gordon (b. abt 1774 in NC, d. 6 Nov 1805 in KY), daughter of Samuel Gordon (immigrant to America in 1750), on 9 November 1790 in Garrard/Madison County, Kentucky and had the following children: (order uncertain)

(3. Samuel Kennedy: Born 10 October 1795.  Died 8 June 1841/44; interred Paint Lick Cemetery.  Employed as a stone mason and clergyman.  Married Rebecca Pickelheimer, daughter of Henry Pickelheimer (who moved to Missouri), on 6 January 1814.

 

(4. David Kennedy: Born 4 January 1790 in Kentucky.  Died 20 March 1872 at Paint Lick, Kentucky.  Married once to Margaret "Peggy" Faulkner (b. 26 Dec 1794), daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Kennedy) Faulkner.  Settled at Paint Lick, Kentucky and had a large family.

 

(5. Robert Kennedy: Born 17 November 1788 near Lancaster, Kentucky.  Married Betsy King (b. 16 Nov 1788), daughter of George King, on 17 March 1805.  It appears he remained in Garrard County, Kentucky.

 

(6. Andrew W. Kennedy: Born 20 November 1793 in Kentucky.  Died 28 June 1863 at Paint Lick, Kentucky.  Appears he purchased his father's property from the other heirs.  Married once to Mary Bates (b. 1792, d. 1867), daughter of Humphrey Bates, on 14 June 1814.

 

(7. Francis Kennedy: Died before 1826/29.  Married (1st (?) in Kentucky.  Married (2nd) Mary Brooks, daughter of John Brooks, on 8 May 1801.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born about 1757/77 in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina (also seen: b. Garrard Co., KY).  Died 20 October 1837 in Marshall County, Tennessee; interred old family cemetery near Moorsville (abt 5 miles west of Lewisburg), Tennessee.  Moved to Giles and Maury Counties, Tennessee with siblings John and Thomas.

 

2. Wife: Mary Denney

 

Born 2 February 1783 in North Carolina; daughter of Alexander (b. 1747, d. 1827; Revolutionary War Veteran) and (1st wife) Mary/May (Allison) Denney (d. Feb 1785).  Died 25 January 1864 in Marshall County, Tennessee; interred with James.  At age 14 married James Kennedy on 16/21 February 1797 in Madison County, Kentucky (also seen: m. Lancaster, Garrard Co., KY).

e. Elizabeth Herron Kennedy: Born about 1805/07 in Garrard County, Kentucky.  Died 6 June 1878 in Marshall County, Tennessee.

 

1850 US Census: John R. Hill, Jr., age 45 (b. NC), was heading a household in Marshall County, Tennessee.  The household also included his wife, Eliz H. Hill, age 45 (b. KY); daughter, Eliz P. Hill, age 18 (b. TN); son, Isaac H. Hill, age 16 (b. TN); daughter, Hannah Hill, age 11 (b. TN); daughter, Martha C. Hill, age 9 (b. TN); daughter, Sarah H. Hill, age 6 (b. TN); son, John R. Hill, Jr., age 4 (b. TN); daughter, Susan R. Hill, age 7 months (b. TN); and mother-in-law, Mary Kennedy, age 67 (b. NC).

 

Elizabeth H. Kennedy married John Royal Hill, Jr. (b. 1802 at Caswell, NC, d. 13 Jun 1880 in Marshall Co., TN), son of Richard, Jr. and Elizabeth (Royal) Hill, on 7 October 1829 in Marshall County, Tennessee.  John R. Hill was the first sheriff of Maury County, Texas.  John and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Hill had several children.

 

f. Nancy R. Kennedy: Born about 1802.  Died 1863.  Married James Carrol Record, son of Reverend John and Mary (Moore) Record, on 19 January 1820, and in 1846 they moved to Paris, Lamar County, Texas.

Born 20 September 1798 in Garrard County, Kentucky.  Died 24 March 1884, age 86, at Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas; interred Odd Fellows Cemetery, Ladonia Township, Fannin County, Texas.  Was a Colonel.

 

2. Wife: Louisa A. Marsh

 

Born 15/13 October 1813 in North Carolina; daughter of Simeon (Revolutionary War Vet from CT) and Isabella Elizabeth (Shelby) Marsh (b. 1795, d. 28 Jul 1846 in Marshall Co., TN).  Died 1 May 1886, age 73, at Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.  Married Thomas Denney Kennedy on 23 December 1829 in Marshall County, Tennessee.

Kennedy, for a pension from the State of Texas for the service of his brother, James Kennedy, during the American Civil War.  Employed as a physician.

Ladonia, Fannin Co., TX); interred first at Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas, but on 28 May 1929 his remains were moved to Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham Township, Fannin County, Texas.  Veteran of the American Civil War; served in Company H of the 23rd Texas Cavalry of the Confederate States of America.

1850 US Census: Elbert Early, age 38 (b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Texas [1st sheriff of Lamar Co., TX].  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Early, age 26 (b. TN); daughter, Emaline C. Early, age 10; son, Mathius John P. Early, age 6 (TX) [b. 12 Apr 1844, d. 21 Aug 1896]; son, Seldon Y. Early, age 4 (b. TX); son, Samuel C. Born 20 October 1898/97 (Bible says 1896) in Bonham Township, Fannin County, Texas; named for Zack Smith and Bennett Cox, old/close friends of Thomas Elbert Kennedy.  Died 5 October 1948 (7 AM), age 49 years, 11 months, and 15 days, from complications of a coronary occlusion, at home (911 Anniston Street, Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana); interred Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham Township, Fannin County, Texas.  Described as 5' 11" tall and handsome, with dark hair and eyes.  Growing up worked in his father's ice business.  Graduated from Bonham High School in 1915.  Took a correspondence course and became a Certified Public Accountant.  Operated The Kennedy Jewelry Company in Beaumont, Texas until 1929, when the Great Depression began.  Then traveled for many years for the US Rubber Company.  Lastly operated a jewelry business in Norman, Oklahoma, closing shop about 1940 to move to Shreveport, Louisiana.

Born 23 January 1898 (11 PM) at Orangeville, Trenton Township, Fannin County, Texas; daughter of Mack Claude and Emma Henrietta (Chadwell) Watkins.  Died Saturday, 30 November 1974 (8 PM) in Bonham Township, Fannin County, Texas; interred with Bennett.  Likely named in honor of her grandfather's 1st wife, Josephine (?) Watkins, and Aunt Mary Josephine (Watkins) Ford.  She, who was 5' 4" tall, with thick curly blond hair and blue eyes, and her sister, Billie, were described in 1958 by Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn, as "two of the prettiest girls that ever lived in Bonham" (Speaker Rayburn met Billie first; she roomed with his niece in college.)

 

Josie Watkins married Bennett Zack Kennedy, who she met at Bonham High School, on 14 November 1916 at her residence in Bonham Township, Fannin County, Texas with Reverend Tom Walker of the Bonham Church of Christ officiating (Josie's parents were not pleased that they married so young.)

 

Following her husband's death in 1948, Josie (Watkins) Kennedy moved back to Bonham, Texas.

Bennett Z. Kennedy, Jr. married (1st) Catherine/Kathryn "Kay" Claire Davis (b. 14 Dec 1918 at Amarillo, Potter Co., TX, d. ), daughter of George Trent and Lillian C. (Carey) Davis, of Amarillo, Potter County, Texas (and granddaughter of Michael & Frances (?) Carey), on 20/30 December 1937 in the parsonage of the Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo, Texas, with Dr. C. C. Grimes officiating.  Kathryn had graduated from Amarillo High School and was home for Christmas from Grenau College in Gainesville, Georgia when they married; subsequently divorced.  Bennett and Kathryn (Davis) Watkins had the following children:
