1930 US Census: James A. Lewis, age 62 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a carpenter doing odd jobs, was heading a household at 121 Maurice Avenue in the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.  He married 1st at age 25, and his residence was valued at $5,000.  The household also included his wife, Bertha Lewis, age 54 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Germany), who married 1st at age 19; father-in-law, Volney S. Cramer, age 78 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a carpenter - owner, was heading a household at 2332 Midland Avenue in the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Bertha Lewis, age 64 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; father-in-law, Volney S. Cramer, age 88 (b. NYS) and widowed, who had completed 5th grade and received old age relief; and lodger, Leona Schmidt, age 17 (b. NYS), single, and employed by the children's bureau, who had completed 4 years of high school.  They resided in the same city on 1 April 1935.

 

James Lewis married Bertha G. Cramer (photos) (b. 5 Oct 1875/74 at Amsterdam, Montgomery Co., NY, d. 9 Sep 1974 at Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY; interred with James), daughter of Volney S. and Emma (?) Cramer, and had the following children:

NYS; parents b. NYS); son-in-law, Leffert Eastman, age 33 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a machinist for an auto works; and daughter, Esther Lewis, age 15 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: George D. Lewis, age 71 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, resided in the household headed by his son-in-law, Albert J. Dennis, age 39 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. English-speaking Canada) on Town Line Road in Waddington Township, Saint Lawrence County, New York.  Albert was employed as a farmer, and he married 1st at age 34.  The household also included Albert's wife, Esther P. Dennis, age 26 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who married 1st at age 21.

 

1940 US Census: (enumerated 19 Aug 1940) George D. Lewis, age 82 (b. NYS) and widowed, with no occupation recorded, resided in the household headed by his son-in-law, Albert J. Dennis, age 48 (b. NYS) and employed as a gas station attendant, in Sandy Creek Township, Oswego County, New York.  George had completed 7th grade.  Albert had completed 8th grade.  The household also included Albert's wife, Esther A. Dennis, age 36 (b. NYS), who had completed 3 years of high school; and Albert's nephew, Maynard Dennis, age 17 (b. NYS), with no occupation recorded, who had completed 2 years of high school.

 

1940 US Census: George D. Lewis, age 82 (b. NYS) and widowed, was also enumerated in the household headed by his sister, Anna S. Paul, age 78 (b. NYS) and widowed, at 204 Clarke Street in the Village of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  George had completed 4th grade, and Anna had completed 8th grade.  Anna resided in the same house, which was valued at $1,000, on 1 April 1935; at that time George resided in Waddington Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  No occupation recorded for either.

 

George D. Lewis married (1st) Ida Woodrick (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and had the following children:

Cattaraugus Co., NY) of Perrysburg, New York, on 20 June 1911 (license issued 12 Jun 1911) at Perrysburg, Cattaraugus County, New York and had children.
