1. Biographical notes:
Born about 1799. Died .
1850 US Census: John Passenger, age 52 (b. NYS) and
employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rutland Township, Jefferson County,
New York. His real estate was valued at
$250. The household also included his
wife, Polly Passenger, age 49 (b. NYS); son, James Passenger, age 19 (b. NYS);
son, Charles Passenger, age 15 (b. NYS); daughter, Diantha
Passenger, age 9 (b. NYS); laborer, James Cummings, age 24 (b. Scotland); and
Eliza I. Cummings, age 22 (b. NYS).
1860 US Census: John Passenger, age 61 and employed as
a lumberman, resided in the household headed by his son-in-law, William L.
Gamble, age 41 (b. NYS) at Black River, Rutland Township, Jefferson County, New
York. William was employed as a
farmer. The household also included William's wife,
Catherine C., age 30 (b. NYS); son, William H., age 10 (b. NYS); son, John, age
8 (b. NYS); son, Charles A., age 5 (b. NYS); daughter, Martha A., age 2 (b.
NYS).
1880 US Census: John Passenger, age 82, resided in
the household headed by his son, James, at Carthage, Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York.

b. John Andrew Passenger: Born 1 April 1825 in
Lawrence Township, Nassau County, New York.
Died 26 April 1898 in Middleton Township, Gratiot County,
Michigan. Married Lucy Ann North
(b. 16 Jun 1829 in LeRay Twp, Jefferson Co., NY, d. 4
May 1898 in New Haven Twp, Gratiot Co., MI) on 17 June 1849 in Lawrence
Township, St. Lawrence County, New York and had children.

c. James Passenger: Born 30 March 1831 in New York. Died 27 August 1919; interred Fairview
Cemetery, Carthage, Jefferson County, New York.
1870 US Census: William? Passenger, age 39 (b. NYS)
and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wilna Township (Carthage
Post Office), Jefferson County, New York.
The household also included his wife, Catharine Passenger, age 35 (b.
NYS); daughter, Camelia Passenger, age 6 (b. NYS);
and son, Sheriden Passenger, age 2 (b. NYS). Of interest, the household headed by William
Gamble, age 51, was enumerated before him on the same census page.
1880 US Census: James Passenger was heading a household
at Carthage, Wilna Township, New York.
The household also included his father, John Passenger, age 82.
James Passenger married Octavia "Octa" Winney (b. 9 Oct 1835,
d. 7 Mar 1895; interred with James) and had the following children:
(1. Franklin P. Passenger: Born 21 June 1853. Died 6 September 1863; interred with his
parents in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage, Jefferson
County, New York.
(2. Walter Passenger #1: Born 21 December 1856. Died 22 September 1863, age 6; interred with
his parents in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage, Jefferson
County, New York.
(3. Camilla "Millie" Passenger: Born 25
July 1864 in New York. Died 1943 at Central Square, Oswego County, New York. Married James J. Wilson (b.
1856, d. 1920 at Central Square, Oswego Co., NY).
(4. Sherman W. Passenger: Born April 1869 in
Jefferson County, New York. Died October 1945 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. Married (1st) Iona May Wooliver
(b. , d. abt 14 Nov 1910). Married (2nd) Jennie B. Moore,
daughter of Clark and Phebe (Cox) Moore, on 11
September 1913 (license issued 9 Sep 1913) in Jefferson County, New York.
(5. Franklin Passenger: Born 1869 in New York.
(6. Walter V. Passenger: Born 1873 in New York. Died 29 January 1934 in
Albany County, New York.
d. Peter Passenger: Born 26 January 1833 in Watson
Township, Lewis County, New York. Died 23 February 1911 at Summitt Park,
Skagit County, Washington.
Married Mary Ann Kennedy (b. abt 1836 in Ireland) on 15 September 1854
in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York and had children.
e. Charles Passenger: Born about 1836 in New York.
d. Diantha C. Passenger:
Born about 1841 in New York. Died 19 March 1908 in Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York. Married Charles Ward (b. abt 1840, d. 4 Feb 1887
in Wilna Twp, Jefferson Co., NY), son of Josiah and Mary (?) Ward, and had
children.
