VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Strafford Township, Orange County, Vermont.  The household also included his wife, Esther Preston, age 50 (b. VT); daughter, Charlotte Preston, age 23 (b. VT); son, Sylvester Preston, age 17 (b. VT) and in school; daughter, Sarah F. Preston, age 15 (b. VT); son, Nathaniel Preston, age 13 (b. VT); and son, Justin Preston, age 8 (b. VT).

1870 US Census: J. W. Preston, age 29 (b. VT) and employed as a merchant, was heading a household in Rutland Township (Marseilles Post Office), La Salle County, Illinois.  His real estate was valued at $6,000, and his personal property was valued at $4,000.  The household also included his wife, Clarrissa Preston, age 22 (b. Canada); daughter, Sopha M. Preston, age 1 (b. IL); Abby E. Kendall, age 17 (b. VT); Cordelia Caswell, age 26 (b. NYS) and employed as a music teacher; and Florance Caswell, age 4 (b. Canada).

 

1880 US Census: Justin Preston, age 38 (b. VT; parents b. VT) and employed as a dry goods merchant, was heading a household in the Western Division of Manlius Township, La Salle County, Illinois.  The household also included his wife, Clarissa Preston, age 32 (b. Canada; father b. NYS; mother b. VT); daughter, Sappho Preston, age 11 (b. IL); daughter, Alice Preston, age 7 (b. IL); daughter, Carrie Preston, age 3 (b. IL); and aunt, Clarissa Clark, age 66 (b. VT; parents b. VT).

 

1900 US Census: Justin Preston, age 59 (b. Oct 1840 in VT; parents b. VT) and employed as a grocer, was heading a household on First Street in the City of Manlius, Manlius Township, La Salle County, Illinois.  The household also included his wife of 32 years, Clarais Preston, age 52 (b. Nov 1847 in English-speaking Canada; father b. NYS; mother b. English-speaking Canada), who immigrated to the US in 1862 and had had 6 children, 4 of whom were still alive; son, Cassius Preston, age 17 (b. Dec 1882 in IL; father b. IL; mother b. English-speaking Canada), single, and employed as a grocery clerk; and sister-in-law, Emma Morgan, age 46 (b. May 1854 in English-speaking Canada; father b. NYS; mother b. English-speaking Canada), single, and not employed, who immigrated to the US in 1862.

Born November 1847 in English-speaking Canada; daughter of Cyprian (b. NYS) and Charlotte Colver (Clark) Morgan (b. English-speaking Canada)and granddaughter of Roswell and Sophia (Walbridge) Morgan, as well as Harvey and Charolette (Culver) Clark.  Immigrated to the US in 1862.  Married Justin Preston on 2 June 1868 in La Salle County, Illinois.

Born 23 October 1881/80 at Marseilles, La Salle County, Illinois.  Died September 1981 in Monroe County, New York.

 

1910 US Census: J. W. Preston, age 29 (b. IL; father b. VT; mother b. English-speaking Canada) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Justice Precinct, Calhoun County, Texas.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 1 year, Vera T. Preston, age 28 (b. IA; parents b. IA), who had been married once and had had no children.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Justin Warner Preston, age 37 (b. 23 Oct 1880) and employed as a US Immigration Inspector, was heading a household at 3418 Rt 2, Galveston, Texas.  The household also included his wife, Vera Preston.

 

1920 US Census: Juston Preston, age 39 (b. IL; father b. VT; mother b. Canada) and employed as an immigration inspector for the US Government, was heading a household at 3418 Avenue P. in the City of Galveston, Galveston County, Texas.  The household also included his wife, Vera Preston, age 38 (b. IA; parents b. IA); daughter, Ruth Preston, age 8 (b. IA); daughter, Justine Preston, age 3 years and 11 months (b. MI); and son, William Preston, age 3 years and 11 months (b. MI).

 

1930 US Census: Justin W. Preston, age 49 (b. IL; father b. VT; mother b. Canada), married, and employed as a dairy farmer, was heading a household on Main Street in the Village of Interlaken, Covert Township, Seneca County, New York.  He married 1st at age 28.  The household also included his daughter, Justine C. Preston, age 15 (b. MI; father b. IL; mother b. IA); and son, William T. Preston, age 13 (b. MI; father b. IL; mother b. IA).

 

1935 FL Census: Justin W. Preston, age 54 (b. IL) and employed as a surveyor, was heading a household at 626 NW 67th Street in the City of Miami, Dade County, Florida.  He had completed some college education.  The household also included his daughter, Justine Preston, age 20 (b. MI) and employed as a stenographer, who had a high school education; and son, William Preston, age 18 (b. MI) and employed as a radio operator, who had a high school education.

 

1940 US Census: Justin W. Preston, age 59 (b. IL) and employed as a farmer, was heading a single-person household in Albion Township, Oswego County, New York.  He had completed 3 years of college, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  On 1 April 1935 he resided at Miami, Dade County, Florida.

Born Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa; daughter of Lewis and Alice (?) Turner.  Married Justin Preston, Jr. on 29 December 1908 in Colfax Township, Jasper County, Iowa.

Twin.  Born 6 July 1916 at Sault Sainte Marie Township, Chippewa County, Michigan.  Died 14 August 1997 at Columbia S. W. Regional Medical Center, Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida; interred Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium, Jefferson County, New York.  Employed in the St. Regis Paper Mill, Deferiet, Wilna Township, Jefferson County, New York, while residing in nearby Philadelphia Township.  Resided last in Dade County, Florida.

 

1940 US Census: Thomas Stanley, age 52 (b. GA) and employed as a car reprocessor, was heading a household at 45 NW 35th Street in the City of Miami, Dade County, Florida.  He had completed 8th grade, and his residence was valued at $1,500.  The household also included his wife, Mildred Stanley, age 54 (b. NYS), who had completed 3 years of high school; daughter, Alma F. Stanley, age 18 (b. FL) and single, who had completed 4 years of high school; son-in-law, William Preston, age 24 (b. MI) and employed as a radio operator in the merchant and miners industry, who had completed 4 years of high school; daughter, Louise Preston, age 24 (b. GA), who had completed 4 years of high school; and grandson, Stanley C. Preston, age 8 months (b. FL).  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935 [which wouldn't be correct for William and Stanley Preston].

 

1945 FL Census: William Preston, age 28 (b. MI) and employed as an operator, was heading a household at 5515 NW 18th Avenue in the City of Miami, Dade County, Florida.  He had completed 11th grade.  The household also included his wife, Louise Preston, age 29 (b. GA), who had completed 11th grade; son, Stanley Preston, age 5 (b. FL); and daughter, Patricia, age 3 (b. FL).
