1. Biographical notes:

 

Twin; born 4 January 1816/17 in Ontario County, New York.  Died on Tuesday, 14 March 1905 (age 89 yrs, 2 mo., 10 days) at his home on the family farm west of Franklindale (Mountain Lake area), Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania from complications of old age and a one-week battle with “the grip.”  He was the last of his 11 siblings to die.  In 1860 John moved his family from Ontario County, New York to Burlington Township, Pennsylvania, and in 1862 he purchased and began clearing improving the farm where he and Amanda resided the remainder of their lives.  Both were long-time members of the local Methodist-Episcopal Church.

Born 13 December 1822 (also seen: May 1822) at Sussex County, New Jersey.  Died 30 March 1910, age 87.  In 1826 moved with her family from New Jersey to Standing Stone, Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Married John Henry Rubert on 5 October 1841 (also seen: Nov), with Joseph Towner of Rome, New York officiating.  In 1883 submitted a claim (#269929) as a Dependent Mother to the Department of Interior’s Pension Office.

Harriet/Hariet Roseltha “Rose” “Rosa” Rubert: (photos) Born 22 November 1844.  Died 1925.  Resided at Monroe, Illinois when she married Daniel McNeil/McNeal of Monroe, Illinois on 16 October 1879 (witnessed by her daughter, Mrs. Galnaugh, and Samuel Cates, Minister.  Resided at Malta, Monroe Center, Ogle County, Illinois; no children.  Apparently Rose’s vision was failing in 1909.

c. Oscar/Osker J. Rubert: Born 20 December 1846.  Served in and died 23 February 1865 during the Civil War from complications of malaria.  On 20 March 1865 his First Sergeant sent his father the following note from Petersburg, Virginia:

 

“Dear Sir: I herewith send you a copy of the resolution adopted by the members of Company F, 207 Regiment on learning of the death of your son, Oscar, who died in Depot Hospital [from] malarious fever.  On the 3 and 4 of February  I reported Oscar on the sick list for the first time since he entered the service.  On the 5th of February our Regiment left camp and marched to the scene of action at Hatchers Run, with a few others of the Company was left in camp, being unable to walk.  We returned to camp on the nite of the 11th February.  Oscar had been taken to the Hospital that day in an ambulance wagon.  Those who were in camp with him in our absence say he was quite sick and failed rapidly.  He was attended by our surgeon until he was taken to the hospital.  He was a boy [of] unimpeachable honesty and liked by all the Company.  Your sympathizing friend, John L. Hamilton, First Sergeant, Company F, 207th Battalion, Petersburg, Virginia.” [resolution follows]

 

“At a meeting of the members of Co. F. 207 BN the following resolutions expressive of their feeling on the death of their fellow soldier, Oscar Rubert of Franklin Dale, Burlington, were unanimously adopted: Whereas it has pleased him who doth all things well to remove from us by sickness our fellow soldier Oscar Rubert.  Therefore Resolved that in his death we have lost a friend whose being, disposition, unobtrusive member, and kindly deportment won for him the respect and esteem of all his companions in arms.  Resolved that as a Soldier, Oscar was truly loyal and faithful, ever ready and willing to perform his duty upon all occasions.  Resolved that while we deeply sympathize with the family and friends of the deceased, we feel how helpless are we to give relief and can only recommend them to the source of all comfort and to hope that he has gone to that happy land where the din of war is heard no more.  Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased and be for publication in the Bradford Reporter.” Signed by Charles A. Carothers, Captain and other members of the Company.

(photos) (more info) Born 4 December 1848.  Died 2 April 1904 (age 56) from complications of consumption (tuberculosis) at home in East Troy, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred Checkerville, Cemetery.  Married Nettie Garrett (perhaps Barrett?) Before 1930 John G. Barrett and his two sons appear to have moved to Buffalo, Erie County, New York, where they resided as borders in the household of Edith/Edythe Rinkle and her daughter, Lila, on Winslow Avenue.  The Rinkles had been John’s neighbors in Watertown.

 

1920 US Census: John (age 33), was heading a household on N. Pleasant Street, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Deborah (age 23); son, Harry (age 7); and son, Lionel, age 4.  Of interest, John’s next door neighbor was Pierce Rinkle, whose wife was John’s landlady 10 years later in Buffalo, New York.

 

1930 US Census: John (age 43), was boarding with Edythe Rinkle (age 43) on Winslow Avenue in Buffalo, Erie County, New York.  The household also included John’s son, Harry (age 17) and son, Lionel (age 14), as well as Edythe’s daughter, Lila.

(a. Earl Henry (Polk) Lutzow: Born 18 November 1911 at Polk County, Florida.  Perhaps adopted by his mother’s 2nd husband.  Raised and resided at Rockford, Illinois.  Married (?) and had 8 children and at least 15 grandchildren.

 

Jennie Lind (Barrett) Polk married (2nd) Walter Johnathon Lutzow (b. 12 Jun 1883, d. before 1937) on 4 June 1913 at Monticello, Minnesota and had the following children:

Henry and Martha (Butler) Lutzow were subsequently divorced.  Henry married (2nd) Clare Wagner.

 

(d. Walter Johnthon Lutzow, Jr.: Born 15 September 1918.  Died 2 February 1987.  Raised at Rockford, Illinois.  Married Helen Cole and had the following son:

William Frank Lutzow “Frank”: Born 19 May 1921.  Died 1982 at Fort Myers, Florida.  Raised and resided at Rockford, Illinois, then in Florida, where he resided initially with his Aunt Nellie’s family while getting established in a career.  First substantial employment for the Sears Roebuck Company in Orlando, Florida, subsequently transferring to the Fort Myers Sears store.  Married Coralie Agnes Brown (b. 1925) in 1942 and had the following children:

 

(1) Shirley Ann Lutzow: Born 1942.  Married James Buffington and resided at/near Fort Myers, Florida.  Shirley and James had 2 children.

 

(2) John Edward Lutzow: Born 1953.  Married (1st) Robin Ann Hull.  Married (2nd Linda Dean Curtis.

 

(3) Child: Still birth 23 May 1965 at Fort Myers, Florida.

The difficulty of coping with the death of her children apparently caused Wesley’s 1st wife to retreat somewhat from reality.  Wesley married 2 additional times and resided last in Arkansas.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 21/1 September 1860.  Died 17 April 1944, age 83, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Funeral service held at his home; interment in the nearby Franklindale Cemetery.  Resided on a farm adjacent to that of his parents at RD 3 Towanda (Mountain Lake area), Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania when he married Esther Whitehead and resided there the remainder of his life.

Born 14 March 1863, daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Spencer) Whitehead.  Died Monday night, 10 February 1936, age 72, at home on the family farm; funeral at the Christian Church in Franklindale; interred there in the Franklindale Cemetery.  Resided in West Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania when she married Aden Manley Rubert on 27 August 1890 at West Burlington by Reverend (Methodist-Episcopal) Herbert A. Carpenter (witnessed by Andrew Whitehead and Lydia Spencer.

b. Leon L. Rubert: (photos) Born 9 March 1894 on the family farm at South Burlington Township (Mountain Lake area), Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 30 September 1965.  Married (1st) Pearl A. Reynolds (b. 3 Aug 1896, d. 28/29 Dec 1935) on 14 August 1927 and resided at Waverly, New York.  Leon married (2nd), as her 2nd husband, Rosamond (Rice) Campbell (d. 25 Sep 1983) on 2 February 1943 and resided at Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  In April 1944 resided at Columbia Cross Road, Bradford County.

 

c. Fred Samuel Rubert (also seen: Fred Seward Rubert): (photos) (more info) SSN: 075-24-4867.  Born 1 September 1897 on the family farm at South Burlington Township (Mountain Lake area), Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died at home Tuesday 29 September 1964, age 67; memorial service 1 October at the Franklindale Methodist Church; interred Franklindale Cemetery, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Employed as a farmer on the Rubert family farm he worked with his father (and later by himself) at RD 3, Towanda.  His father's farm was adjacent to his brother, John’s farm in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  In 1928 was a member of the Klu Klux Klan.  Was also a member of the Iona Grange #272.  Had an accident while operating a power saw in 1951 that severed the first two fingers of his right hand.   Never married.  Bequeathed the farm he worked on his entire life and acquired from his parents to his nephew, Raymond Emery Rubert.

 

d. Lawrence Turney “L.T.” Rubert: (photos) Born 2 October 1903 at home on the family farm at South Burlington Township (Mountain Lake area), Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 24 November 1956, age 53.  Married, as her 1st husband, Margaret Ruth Harris “Ruth” (photos) (also seen: Ruth M.; perhaps the daughter of Stella (Harris) Lane) (photos) (b. 28 Sep 1907, d. 2 Mar 1991), on 17/27 November 1924 and resided at Towanda, Bradford County, New York.  L.T. and Margaret had the following children: (order uncertain)

 

(1. Thelma Louise Rubert: Born 29 September 1925.  Died 31 March l926.

 

(2. Lawrence Lane Rubert: (photos) Born 1927.

 

(3. Shirley Marie Rubert: Born 1931.  Married (?) Goodenow (d. about 1959) and resided near Towanda, Bradford county, Pennsylvania.  Shirley and her husband had the following son:

 

(a. Dale Goodenow: Born about 1960.  Died 14 June 1981, age 21, from injuries he received in an automobile accident.

 

(4. Charles Aden Rubert: Born 1933.

 

(5. Kenneth Rubert: Died 1997.

 

Margaret Ruth (Harris) Rubert married (2nd) (?) Lane.

 

e. Lucy Emma Rubert: (photos) (more info) Born 13 May 1907 on the family farm at South Burlington Township (Mountain Lake area), Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died Wednesday, 11 April 1951, age 43 near Elmira, Broome County, New York; interred Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.  Member of the Rose M. Landon Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Easter Star, of Elmira.  Married Floyd William Griswold (b. 3 Jan 1902, d. 1965) on 18 June 1927 and in 1936 resided at Dannemora (near Plattsburgh), New York.  Later resided at RD 1, Lowman (near Elmira), New York.  Floyd and Lucy had the following children:

 

(1. Bernice Rae Griswold: (photos) Born 11 August 1928.  Died 1 November 2004.  Married (1st) (?) Collins.  Married (2nd) Major (retired) Henry S. La Freniere in 1976; subsequently divorced.  Resided in Miami, Florida, about 5 miles from her sister, Esther.

 

(2. Esther Mae Griswold: (photos) Born 26 August 1929.  Died 5 May 2004.  Married (1st) (?) Ferguson and in April 1951 resided at Galeton, but they were divorced very shortly after marriage.  Married (2nd) (?) Vitrik (d. in an accident).  Resided in Miami, Florida, about 5 miles from her sister, Bernice.  Esther and her 2nd husband had the following children:

 

(a. Joseph William Vitrik: Born 9 March 1960.  Died 4 December 1980 when he lost control of the ambulance he was driving while in the military and stationed in Germany, and it went over a cliff.

 

(b. Frances Elizabeth Vitrik: Born 1963.  Married (1st) John McCarthy in 1988; subsequently divorced.  Married Phillip Gibson.

 

Esther (Griswold) (?) Vitrik married (3rd) Curtis Leroy Shirk (b. 10 Apr 1935, d. 4 Sep 1996) in 1969.

 

(3. Cleda Belle Griswold: (photos) Born 6 July 1937.  Died 28 January 2006.  Married (1st) Donald Spencer in 1959; divorced in 1979.  Married (2nd) Ronald Smith in 1982; subsequently divorced.

 

(4. Persis Ann Griswold: Born 1941.  Married (1st) Robert "Bob" Grauel and had the following children:

 

(a. Cathleen “Cathy” Mary Grauel: Born 1961.  Married (1st) Arthur Weisenberger in 1982 and had the following son:

 

(1) Michael Weisenberger.

 

Cathy and Arthur Weisenberber were subsequently divorced.  Cathy married (2nd) Robert Schlecte in 1982 and had the following son:

 

(2) Nicholas Schlecte.

 

(b. Robert “Robbie” Grauel: Born 1964.  Married (1st) Luz (?) and had the following daughter:

 

(1) Mika Grauel.

 

Robbie and Lux were subsequently divorced.  Robbie married (2nd) Danka (?) and had the following children:

 

(2) Brandi Grauel.

 

(3) Brady Grauel.

 

(c. Donna Marie Grauel: Born 1966.  Married Joseph Stone in 1990 and had the following children:

 

(1) Jonathan William Stone: Born 1997.

 

(2) Zachary Jacob Stone: Born 2000.

 

Persis Ann (Griswold) Gravel and her (1st) husband were subsequently divorced.  Persis married (2nd) Mansel "Jack" Johnson in 1982; subsequently divorced; no children.

 

Lawrence and Margaret Ruth (Harris) Rubert were divorced.  Margaret married (2nd) (?) Nichols.

Born 13 December 1891.  Died 22 February 1944.  Married Ruth Elizabeth Biles, descendant #5 of generation 10 of the Descendants of John Addison Biles, on 3 March 1917.
