7   Henry Rubrecht/Ruprecht

 

1. Biographical notes:

 

Was a native of the Duchy of Wurttemburg/Wurtenmburg, Germany.  Emigrated from Germany to America on board the sailing ship “Peggy,” arriving at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 16 October 1754.  Settled in Lynn Township, Northampton (now Lehigh) County, Pennsylvania prior to 1765.  On 12 November 1768 Henry took out a warrant to purchase 70 acres of land in Lynn Township.  In 1812 he and his two sons, John and Henry, were among those included on the Lynn Township tax list.  Between 1816 and 1817 Henry purchased lots 83, 129, and 130 in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania.

 

1790 US Census: Henry was heading a household in Lynn Township, Pennsylvania which also included 2 males under 16 years of age, 2 males over 16, and 3 females.

 

2. Wife: Elizabeth Katharina Bielman

 

Born 28 July 1735 at Biberach in the Duchy of Wurttemburg, daughter of Hans David (b. Aug 1703 at Biberach, Duchy of Wurttemburg) and Anna Maria (Bentz) Bielman (b. Feb 1703 in the Duchy of Wurttemburg, m. there 23 Nov 1734).  Died Lynn Township, Northampton (now Lehigh) County, Pennsylvania.  Immigrated to America with her parents aboard the sailing ship Princess Augusta, arriving at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 16 September 1736.  Married Henry Rubrecht/Rupprecht in 1755 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born about 1760.  Moved from Lynn Township across the Blue Mountains and settled initially at Centre Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, where he owned and farmed a large tract of land later known as the Renschler farm.  In later years Jonas moved to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, where he died; interred in the Zion’s Red Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pinedale (Route 61 between Orwigsburg and Deer Lake), the color of which is symbolic of the blood shed by early settlers who built it in 1754.  His descendants resided in the vicinity of Hamburg and Shoemakerville, Berks County, Pennsylvania, where they changed the spelling of their surname to Rubright.

Only son.  Born 18 April 1793.  Resided at Hamburg, Windsor Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, where he operated a small farm and was a pump maker.  Died 16 November 1864, age 71.  Had 16 children with two wives: 7 sons; 9 daughters.

Harold Eugene and Maria (Lowe) Rubright were subsequently divorced.  At some point thereafter Maria (Lowe) Rubright legally changed her name to Lea Lowe.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 3 October 1831 at Hamburg, Windsor Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.  Died 1918; interred in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville, Pennsylvania.  Attended the local pay schools, but left at an early age to learn carpentry with his brother-in-law, David Shearer.  Also learned pump making from his father.  Moved from Windsor Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania to Hamburg, Pennsylvania, where he was employed in the shipyards as a carpenter and pump maker.  Then in 1868 moved to Frackville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, where he was employed as a school teacher and as a lock tender on the Schuylkill Canal.

1880 US Census: Gabriel Rubright, age 48 (b. PA, as were his parents) and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Esther Rubright, age 44 (b. PA); daughter, Mary Rubright, age 17 (b. PA) and single; son, Morris Rubright, age 13 (b. PA); son, William Rubright, age 10 (b. PA); daughter, Elizabeth Rubright, age 9 (b. Apr 1848 in PA, as were her parents; married 22 yrs; had had 3 children, all still alive); son, Mahlon W. Rubright, age 20 (b. PA) and employed as a laborer, was heading a household in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania (next door to his father, Gabriel Rubright).  The household also included his wife, Jane Rubright, age 22; and son, William L. Rubright, age 5 months.

 

1900 US Census: No record found for Amos.  Jennie Rubright, age 41 (b. Nov 1858 in PA, father b. Scotland, mother b. PA; had had 4 children, all still alive), was heading a household at 2209 Greenwich Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  She was recorded as married (not widowed).  The household also included her son, William Rubright, age 20 (b. Aug 1879 in PA) and employed as an express man; daughter, Maggie Rubright, age 15 (b. May 1895 in PA [appears to be a typo, should be 1885]) and employed as a twister in a wool mill; and son, Arthur Rubright, age 16 (b. Aug 1893 in PA [appears to be a typo, should be 1883]) and employed as an electrician.

 

Amos married Jane "Jennie" Jackson (photos) and had the following children:

May 1861 in England) and employed as a laborer (who had been unemployed 3 months in the last year), was heading a household at 209 Chist (sp) Street in Shenandoah Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  He immigrated to the US in 1873 and was still an alien.  The household also included his wife of 19 years, Mary Philips, age 37 (b. Feb 1863 in PA; parents b. PA), who had had 7 children, 5 of whom were still alive; daughter, Ida Philips, age 19 (b. Apr 1881 in PA) and single; daughter, Annie Philips, age 17 (b. Apr 1883 in PA) and single; Lizzie Philips, age 11 (b. Mar 1889 in PA); daughter, May Philips, age 8 (b. May 1892 in PA); and son, Raymond Philips, age 5 (b. May 1895 in PA).

PA; parents b. PA) who had had 7 children, 5 of whom were still alive; daughter, Mary M. Phillips, age 17 (b. PA; father b. England, mother b. Married Sarah Ingram of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and resided at Frackville.  Wilbur and Sarah had the following children:

1910 US Census: Norton M. Rubright, age 28 (b. PA; parents b. PA), was heading a household in Middle Frackville Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Della Rubright, age 25 (b. PA; parents b. PA); daughter, Hazel M. Rubright, age 4 (b. PA); and boarder, John Kienzle, age 23 (b. PA).
