Born about 1790 in Saratoga County, New York.  Died 30 April 1868, age 76 years, 6 months, and 9 days in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York; interred there in Sandy Hollow Cemetery.

 

1840 US Census: Henry Scouten was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household included 2 males under age 5; 1 male age 5 to 10; 1 male age 50 to 60; 1 female age 5 to 10; 1 female age 10 to 15; 1 female age 15 to 20; and 1 female age 40 to 50.

 

1850 US Census: Henry Scouton, age 65 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his son, Isaac Scouton, age 16 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; son, Simon Scouton, age 14 (b. NYS); son, Cornelius Scouton, age 10 (b. NYS); wife, Elizabeth Scouton, age 40 (b. NYS); daughter, Caroline Scouton, age 23 (b. 1850 US Census: Caroline Scouten, age 23 (b. NYS), with no occupation recorded, resided in the household headed by John H. Napier (b. Ireland) and employed as a tallow chaneller? in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1870 US Census: Caroline Scouten, age 40 (b. NYS) resided in the household headed by her brother, Isaac Scouten, in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1875 NYS Census: Caroline Scouten, age 44 (b. NYS), resided in the household headed by her brother, Simeon Scouten, in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.

Eliza Scouten: Born about 1831 in New York.  No record found past 1850; apparently not interred in Jefferson County, New York, so perhaps married.  Of possible interest, there was an Eliza Scouten who married F. B. Kasson and had daughter, Hazel E. Kasson who married Harold T. Anderson, son of Edgar and Caroline (Dailey) Anderson, on 26 November 1924 at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

 

c. Isaac Scouten: Born 21 December 1833 in Montgomery County, New York.  Died 8 April 1907, age 73 years and 4 months; interred Sandy Hollow Cemetery, Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Moved from Montgomery County to Jefferson County with his parents at age 5 (abt 1838), 

 

1870 US Census: Isaac Scouten, age 36 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  His personal property was valued at $500; no real estate value recorded.  The household also included his brother, Simeon Scouten, age 34 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, sister, Caroline Scouten, age 40 (b. NYS) and employed keeping house; James McClenan, age 28 (b. Canada) and employed working on the farm; and Laura Cook, age 45 (b. NYS) and employed as a house keeper.

1900 US Census: Issac Scoriten, age 65 (b. Dec 1834 in NYS; parents b. NYS), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a single-person household in the Village of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had been married 13 years.

Jefferson Co., NY) and employed as a cheese maker; servant, Laura A. Z. Kent, age 26 (b. Oneida Co., NY), single, and employed as a cheese maker; servant, Sarah M. Pickard, age 28 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and married, with no occupation recorded; servant, Ellen J. Carpenter, age 19 (b. Jefferson Co., NY), single, and employed as a cheese maker; and servant, Andrew Sigourney, age 20 (b. MA) and employed as a laborer.

 

1870 US Census: Cornelius Scouten, age 30 (b. NYS) and employed working on the farm, and his wife, Louisa Scouten, age 24 (b. NYS) and employed keeping house, resided in the household headed by Lansing Becker, age 40 (b. 1905 NYS Census: Cornelius Souten, age 65 (b. US), was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Louisa Scouten, age 59 (b. US).

 

1915 NYS Census: Cornelius Scouten, age 74, was heading a household enumerated with Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York (house number: Antwerp).  The household also included his wife, Louisa Scouten, age 69 (likewise with Antwerp in the house number column. (pg 15)

NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Louisa Lucy Scouten, age 73 (b. NYS; father b. 1870 US Census: Simeon Scouten, age 34 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, resided in the household headed by his brother, Isaac Scouten, in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1875 NYS Census: Simeon Scouton, age 38 (b. Oneida Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Malisa Scouton, age 25 (b. Canada); son, Edmond Scouton, age 1 year and 2 months? [could be 5 months] (b. ); sister, Caroline Scouton, age 44 (b. Saratoga Co., NY) and employed as a domestic servant; and servant, Byron Fluno, age 20 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and employed as a farm laborer.

1925 NYS Census: Edward Scouten, age 50, was heading a household in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Gertrude Scouten, age 46 (b. Canada); daughter, Nina Scouten, age 16; son, Percy Scouten, age 14; son, Claud Scouten, age 13; daughter, Laura Scouten, age 9; and daughter, Iva Scouten, age 7. (pg 15)

 

At age 32, Edward Scouten married Ida Gertrude Whan "Gertrude" (b. 1879 at Smiths Falls, d. gravestone w/o date of death in Sandy Hollow Cem., Philadelphia Twp, NY), age 26, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Davis) Whan, on 11 October 1906 (per Smiths Falls marriage register dated 18 Oct 1906; however, marriage license dated 16 Oct 1906 says ceremony occurred on 17 Oct 1906) at Smiths Falls, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada and had the following children:

1930 US Census: Myrtle Ball, age 45 (b. NYS), divorced, and employed as a maid for a private family, resided in the household headed by Mary L. Gilbert, age 70 (b. IA) at 220 Clinton Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  Myrtle married 1st at age 21.  The household also included Mary's nephew, Albert W. Horr, Jr., age 23 (b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: Leslie Ball, age 42 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a locomotive engineer for the NY Central Railroad Company, was heading a household at 205 Arsenal Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He married 1st at age 20.  The household also included his wife, Frances Ball, age 43 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who married 1st at age 17.

 

Myrtle Scouten married Leslie Ball (b. 28 Jul 1886 in Alexandria Twp, NY, d. 1951; interred North Watertown Cem., Watertown, NY), son of Amos (b. Sep 1860, d. 17 Aug 1927) and Jane Jennie (Hodge) Ball (b. Nov 1860 in Canada, d. 20 Jan 1939), in 1905; subsequently divorced.  Myrtle and Leslie had the following children:

 

(1. Harry Orville Ball: Born 15 Jan 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  At age 25 married Marjorie Frances Quinn (b. 13 Apr 1910, age 22, daughter of Robert J. and Frances (Feltz) Quinn, about 29 October 1932 (license date) in Irondequoit Township, Monroe County, New York.

 

(2. Child: Died as an infant.

Keith Hayden Ball: Born 30 November 1916 in Fargo Township, Cass County, North Dakota.  Died 17 January 1995 at Columbia, Lexington County, South Carolina; interred Adams State Road Cemetery, Honeyville, Adams Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Married Alice Marie Carley (b. 31 August 1924 at Honeyville, Adams Twp, Jefferson Co., NY, d. 24 Jul 2011 at Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY; interred with Keith).

Born 8 June 1881 in New York.  Died 17 January 1960, age 78, in Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York; interred there in Hillside Cemetery. 

 

1910 US Census: Charles Sconten, age 28 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a clerk in a grocery, was heading a household on Van Buren Street in Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 6 years, May Sconten, age 24 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had been married once and had had no children (left blank); father-in-law, Harvey Brown, age 65 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), a retired farmer; and boarder, Earnest Seeley, age 22 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed asa a laborer in a factory.

 

1915 NYS Census: Charles H. Scouten, age 33, was heading a household in Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mae L. Scouten, age 29. (pg 5)

 

1920 US Census: Charles H. Scouten, age 38 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada) and employed as a salesman in a grocery store, was heading a household in the Village of Antwerp, Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Lydia M. Scouten, age 34 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and son, Karl E. Scouten, age 1 year and 11 months (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

English-speaking Canada) and employed as a shipping clerk in a cheese plant, was heading a household on Van Buren Street in Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  His residence was valued at $2,000.  He married 1st at age 22.  The household also included his wife, Mae L. Scouten, age 44 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who married 1st at age 18; daughter, Hilda M. Scouten, age 9 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and boarder, Dora A. Frawley, age 36 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a cheese packer in a cheese plant.

 

1940 US Census: Charles Scouten, age 58 (b. NYS) and employed as a shipping clerk in a cheese plant, was heading a household in the Village of Antwerp, Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Mae Scouten, age 54 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; and daughter, Scouten Scouten, age 19 (b. NYS) and single, and employed as a stenographer in an office, who had completed 1 year of college.  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.

(Brown) Hubbard's brother and sister-in-law), Harvey G. and Imogene (?) Brown of Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died 10 January 1976, age 90, at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York; interred Hillside Cemetery, Antwerp, Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Lydia A. Brown and Harvey G. Brown were the children of Samuel R. and Maria (?) Brown of Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Mae L. Hubbard married Charles Henry Scouten on 8 February 1903 in Philadelphia Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1900 US Census: Harvey G. Brown, age 53 (b. Jan 1847 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Village of Antwerp, Antwerp Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 32 years, Imogene Brown, age 51 (b. Jul 1848 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, still alive; son, Albert Brown, age 27 (b.
