1900 US Census: Charles G. Smith, age 44 (b. Jan 1856 in Canada; parents b. Canada) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Village of Gagetown, Elmwood Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  He immigrated to the US in 1876 and was subsequently naturalized.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Smith, age 44 (b. Nov 1855 in Canada; parents b. Ireland), who immigrated to the US in 1876 and had had 6 children, all still alive; son, William S. Smith, age 16 (b. Dec 1883 in MI); son, Charles E. Smith, age 14 (b. Jun 1886 in MI); daughter, Edith Smith, age 13 (b. May 1887 in MI); daughter, Mary K. Smith, age 8 (b. Jun 1881 in MI); son, Thomas J. Smith, age 6 (b. Born 29/30 June 1885/86 in Elmwood Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  Perhaps died there 23 April 1939, age 53; interred Indian Fields Township Cemetery, Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan.  In 1917 resided at Colling, Tuscola County, Michigan.

 

1910 US Census: Charles E. Smith, age 24 (b. MI; parents English-speaking Canada) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Elmwood Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 1 year, Myrtle M. Smith, age 22 (b. English-speaking Canada; parents b. English-speaking Canada), who had been married once and had had 1 child, still alive; and son, Harland A. Smith, age 7 months (b. MI).

 

1920 US Census: Charles E. Smith, age 35 (b. MI; parents b. English-speaking Canada) and employed as a farmer (own farm), was heading a household in Elmwood Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Myrtle M. Smith, age 32 (b. Canada), who immigrated to the US in 1909 and became naturalized in 1909; son, Harlan A. Smith, age 10 (b. MI); daughter, Leona R. Smith, age 8 (b. MI); daughter, Margarete P. Smith, age 7 (b. MI); son, Laurence J. Smith, age 5 (b. MI); daughter, Jeraline M. Smith, age 3 (b. MI); daughter, Veneta C. Smith, age 2 (b. MI); and daughter, Arleta M. Smith, age 3 months (b. MI).
