1840 US Census: N. F. Swain was heading a household in Oswegatchie Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.

1860 US Census: N. F. Swain, age 53 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in DePeyster Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Eliza Swain, age 49 (b. NYS); daughter, Eliza A. 1830 US Census: An Eliza Hutchinson (relation to this Eliza unknown) was heading a household at Canton, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Other Hutchinsons heading households in St. Lawrence County at that time: Joseph Hutchinson at Canton; William Hutchinson at Canton; Joseph Hutchinson at Oswegatchie.

 

1850 US Census: Of interest, James Hutchinson, age 81 and not employed, was heading a household in Hammond Township, St. Lawrence County, New York  next door to the residence of John Swain, age 47; Robert Swain, age 45; and Robert's presumed son, James Swain, age 10.  The household also included Lydia Hutchinson, age 50 (perhaps the sister John and Robert Swain); Mary Wiley, age 13; and Eliza Ann Wiley, age 4.

Born 22 February 1835 in Canada.  Died 11 February 1920; interred Sunnyside Cemetery, Great Bend, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Resided at Great Bend.

 

1860 US Census: George Swain, Sr., age 25 and b. Canada, was employed as a farm hand in the household of Emmer Gardner and his family in LeRay Township, New York.

 

1870 US Census: George Swain, age 34 and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household in DePeyster Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Electa Swain, age 21; and Daniel Swain,  who was employed as a farm laborer.

 

1880 US Census: George Swain, age 45 (b. NYS, father b. MA [appears to be an error], mother b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in DePeyster Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Electa Swain, age 32 (b. NYS, parents b. VT) and keeping house; daughter, Laurana Swain, age 9 (b. NYS, as were her parents); and daughter, Luwella Swain, age 1 (b. NYS, as were her parents).  Their next door neighbor was Nathan Swain, age 72 (see gen 3, above).

 

1900 U.S. Census: George W. Swain, age 63 (b. Feb 1837 in NYS) was heading a household in Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He was married to Electa (?) Swain, age 50 (b. Aug 1849 in NYS).  The household also included their daughter, Luella, age 20 (b. Oct 1879 in NYS), son, George H. Swain, age 11 (b. Aug 1888 in NYS), and Ira [Hiram Henry] Holmes, age 8 (b. Feb 1892) (no relation given, but undoubtedly related to Electa (Holmes) Swain.)

 

1920 US Census: George W. Swain, age 84, was heading a household next door to the household headed by (perhaps) his grandson, George Swain (age 32) on the Champion to Great Bend Road, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Electa Swain (age 72).

Aug 1871 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, still alive; and daughter, Edith M. Soults, age 8 (b. May 1892 in NYS).

 

1910 US Census: George J. Soults, age 50 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 18 years, Lurana Soults, age 39 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 2 children, both still alive; daughter, Edith Soults, age 17 (b. NYS); and daughter, Bertha Soults, age 7 (b. NYS).

 

Lurana Swain married George J. Soults (b. Mar 1860, d. 28/30 Jan 1930 at home in West Carthage; interred Sunnyside Cem., Great Bend), son of German immigrants, on 15 April 1891/90 at her parents' home near Great Bend, Jefferson County, New York and had the following children:

1930 US Census: Wesley B. Graves, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a salesman for a monument company, was heading a household at 49 N. Main Street in the Village of West Carthage, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He married 1st at age 27.  His residence was valued at $5,000.  The household also included his wife, Edith M. Graves, age 37 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who married 1st at age 24; Donald G. Graves, age 10 (b. NYS); and son, John W. Graves, age 7 (b. NYS).

 

1940 US Census: Wesley B. Graves, age 50 (b. NYS) and employed as Deputy Commissioner of County Welfare, was heading a household at 49 N. Main Street in the Village of West Carthage, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 4 years of high school, and he resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.   The household also included his wife, Edith Graves, age 47 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of high school; son, John Graves, age 17 (b. NYS) and single, who had completed 4 years of high school; and lodger, Alexie Stout, age 22 (b.  NYS), single and employed as a public school teacher, who had completed 4 years of college.

 

Edith Soults married Wesley B. (Bruce?) Graves (b. ; d. ; interred Hillside Cem., West Carthage), son of Selvester and Philetta (Bedille) Graves, on 18 September 1916 and resided at 49 N. Main Street, West Carthage, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York and had the following children:

 

(a. Donald G. Graves: Born about 1920 in New York.

 

(b. John "Jack" Wesley Graves: Born 1923 in New York.  Married Helen Middleton and had at least one son:

Bailey, age 27 (b. NYS) and employed as a public school teacher, who was married 1st at age 22.

 

1940 US Census: Arthur F. Bailey, age 38 (b. NYS) and employed as manager of a retail electric store, was heading a household at 249 Chestnut Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 4 years of high school, and he resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.  The household also included his wife, Bertha S.  Bailey, age 37 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of college; son, Ronald Bailey, age 4 (b. NYS); and housemaid, Joyce E. Greene, age 26 (b. NYS) and single, who had completed 4 years of high school.

 

Bertha Soults married Arthur Fred Bailey (b. abt 1902 in NYS), son of George and Bertha (Green) Bailey, on 5 August 1925 at West Carthage, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York and subsequently resided at 1328 Sherman Street, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  They had the following son:

 

(a. Ronald "Ron" Bailey: Born about 1936 in New York.  Resided at Monroe, New York.

Flint, age 31 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); no record of children provided.

 

1920 US Census: Charlie Flint, age 43 (b. NYS) and employed as foreman in a paper mill, was heading a household in Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Leulla Flint, age 41 (b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: Charles Flint, age 53 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as yard foreman for a paper mill, was heading a household on Champion Street in/near the Village of Great Bend, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He married 1st at age 23.  The household also included his wife, Luwella Flint, age 51 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who married 1st at age 21.

 

1940 US Census: Charles Flint, age 63 (b. NYS), with no occupation recorded, was heading a household on Main Street in/near Great Bend, Champion Township, Jefferson county, New York.  The household also included his wife, Luwella Flint, age 61 (b. NYS).

 

Luwella Swain married Charles B. Flint (b. abt 1877 in NYS), son of Egbert and Selinda (?) Flint, about 1901 and subsequently resided at Great Bend, Champion Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Apparently no children.
