NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Greene Township, Chenango County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,500.  The household also included his wife, Jane Van Valkenburg, age 75 (b. NYS); daughter, C. Van Valkenburg, age 40 (b. NYS); son, P. B. Van Valkenburg, age 33 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; daughter, M. Van Valkenburg, age 30 (b. NYS); daughter, Jane E. Van Valkenburg, age 28 (b. NYS); son, George Van Valkenburg, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a black smith; daughter, M. Van Valkenburg, age 16 (b. Born 24 August 1822.  Baptized 17 August 1823.  Died 4 June 1895.  Owned and operated a farm on the Greene – Coventry Road, Chenango County, New York.

 

1860 US Census: Joseph Van Valkenburg, age 37 (b. NYS), was heading a household in Greene Township, Chenango County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Maria Van Vankenburg, age 35 (b. NYS); mother, Jane Van Valkenburg, age 70; [perhaps sister] Christina Van Valkenburg, age 25 (b. NYS); son, Dwight Van Van Valkenburg, age 10 (b. NYS); daughter, Emma Van Valkenburg, age 3 (b. NYS); and daughter, Delphine Van Valkenburg, age 0 (b. NYS).

 

1870 US Census: J. Van Valkenburg, age 48 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Greene Township, Chenango County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,000 and his personal property was valued at $1,800.  The household also included his wife, Maria Van Valkenburg, age 46 (b. NYS); son, Dwight Van Valkenburg, age 20 (b. NYS); daughter, Emma Van Valkenburg, age 13 (b. NYS); son, Dallas Van Valkenburg, age 11 (b. NYS); daughter, Maryette Van Valkenburg, age 9 (b. NYS); daughter, Della Van Valkenburg, age 19 (b. NYS) and single; Margaret Van Valkenburg, age 17 (b. NYS); son, George Van Valkenburg, age 10 (b. NYS); and farm laborer, Charles Boyce, age 17 (b. NYS).

Born 23 June 1824 at Greene, Chenango County, New York; daughter of William D. and Prudence (Bells) Wheeler.  Died 15 March 1893.  Married Joseph Dwight Van Valkenburgh on 29 February 1844 at Greene.

Mar 1866 in CT; father b. VA; mother b. CT), who had had 4 children, all alive; daughter, Helen S. Valkenburgh, age 19 (b. Dec 1880 in NYS) and single; daughter, Emma J. Valkenburgh, age 9 (b. Aug 1890 in NYS); son, Richard M. Valkenburgh, age 7 (b. Aug 1892 in NYS); son, Edward A. Valkenburgh, age 6 (b. Nov 1893 in NYS); daughter, Gertrude M. Valkenburgh, age 4 (b.
