Vaughan, Harriet E. (Turner) - close up (11) #.jpg

Born about 1808/10 to relatively wealthy parents in England.  Died .  Married George Vaughan on 6 March 1829 at Ashton-under-Lyne (Manchester area), Lancashire, England.  Of interest, Harriet was engaged to be married to another man, and on her wedding day to that man, she was left waiting at the altar, when, as a practical joke, the groom's attendants locked him up in a small room.  When the groom arrived at the church several hours (or perhaps as much as a day) late, Harriet was not there, having walked away from the church, as well as the engagement.  Harriet subsequently married the footman of her carriage, Samuel Vaughn, a man of no formal education and no other income.  As a consequence Harriet lost her inheritance, and the couple decided to move to the United States.
