NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Putnam Valley Township, Putnam County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $1,000.  The household also included his wife, Ruth Austin, age 53 (b. NYS); daughter, Ada Austin, age 23 (b. NYS); son, Isaac Austin, age 18 (b. NYS) and employed as a laborer; and son, John Austin, age 16 (b. NYS) and employed as a laborer.

 

1860 US Census: Ruth Austin (Adams lined out), age 64 (b. NYS), who could not read or write, was heading a household in Putnam Valley Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included her son, John R.? Austin, age 24 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $700 and personal property was valued at $270; son, Isaac Austin, age 27 (b. Born about 1866 in Putnam Valley, Putnam County, New York.  Died 20 September 1947 at Mahopac, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  Resided a short distance from his daughter, Sadie, and her 2nd husband, Ernest George Froome, on West Mahopac Falls Road, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.

 

1880 US Census: William H. Austin, age 16 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a laborer, resided in the household headed by his widowed mother, Sarah Austin, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.

 

1900 US Census: No clear record found for William and his family.

 

1910 US Census: William H. Austin, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as contractor specializing in farm work, was heading a household in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 20 years, Carrie Austin, age 39 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 5 children, all still alive; son, William Austin, age 17 (b. NYS); daughter, Sadie Austin, age 15 (b. NYS); son, Frank Austin, age 12 (b. NYS); daughter, Ethel Austin, age 7 (b. NYS); and daughter, Alice Austin, age 5 (b. NYS).

 

1915 NYS Census: William Austin, age 44, was heading a household in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Carrie Austin, age 45; daughter, Sadie Austin, age 20; son, Frank Austin, age 17; daughter, Ethel Austin, age 12; and daughter, Alice Austin, age 18 [it appears the ages for Ethel and Alice were switched].

 

1920 US Census: William Austin, age 58 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a laborer working out, was heading a household at Mahopac Falls, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Carolina Austin, age 54 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); daughter, Ethel Austin, age 16 (b. NYS) and single; and daughter, Alice Austin, age 14 (b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: William H. Austin, age 64 (m. 1st age 29), was heading a household on West Mahopac Falls Road, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Carrie Austin, age 62 (m. 1st age 27), son-in-law, George Dagle, age 23 (m. 1st age 22); daughter, Ethel Dagle, age 25 (m. 1st age 24); and granddaughter, Dorothy Fisher, age 10.

 

1940 US Census: William Austin, age 77 (b. NYS) resided in the household headed by his son, Frank Austin, age 42 (b. NYS) on Secor Road (Mahopac RFD #1) in Mahopac, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included William's wife, Caroline Austin, age 72 (b. NYS); and daughter, Alice Ferguson, age 34 (b. NYS).

Sweden), on 1 January 1914 (license issued same day) at White Plains, Westchester County, New York.

1940 US Census: Frank Austin, age 42 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a trucker in the trucking industry, was heading a household on Secor Road (Mahopac RFD #1) in Mahopac, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his father, William Austin, age 77 (b. NYS) and married, with no record of employment, who had completed 8th grade; mother, Caroline Austin, age 72 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; and sister, Alice Ferguson, age 34 (b. NYS) and widowed, who had completed 8th grade.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.  Of interest, the household headed by George Dagle, age 32, was enumerated directly before him on the same census page.

 

d. Ethel Austin: Born 19 March 1903 at Mahopac, Putnam County, New York.  Died 29 July 1988 in Poughkeepsie Township, Dutchess County, New York.

 

1920 US Census: Ethel Austin, age 16 (b. NYS), resided in the household headed by her father, William Austin, age 58, in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.

 

1920 US Census: George E. Dagle, age 11 (b. MA) resided in the household headed by his father, William E. Dagle, age 39, in Worcester Township, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

 

1930 US Census: George and Ethel Dagle resided in the household headed by Ethel's father, William H. Austin, age 64, on West Mahopac Falls Road, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York (see above).

 

1940 US Census: George Dagle, age 32 (b. MA) and employed as a printer in the printing industry, was heading a household on Secor Road (Mahopac RFD #1) in Mahopac, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  He had completed 4 years of high school.  The household also included his wife, Ethel Dagle, age 36 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.  Of interest, the household headed by his brother-in-law, Frank Austin, age 42, was enumerated directly after him on the same census page.

 

At age 23 Ethel Austin married George E. Dagle (b. 12 Sep 1908 in Worcester Co., MA, d. Sep 1981 in Dutchess Co., NY), age 24, son of William E. and Sarah E. (Kennedy) Dagle, on 29 September 1929 in Putnam County, New York.

Born 12 January 1895 at Mahopac, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  Died 30 July 1988 at Peekskill, Westchester County, New York.  Educated and employed as a practical nurse.

 

1900 US Census: No record found for Sadie, or for her parents and siblings.

 

1910 US Census: Sadie Austin, age 15 (b. NYS), resided with her parents and siblings in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.

 

1915 NYS Census: Sadie Austin, age 20 (b. NYS), resided with her parents and siblings in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.

 

1920 US Census: (enumerated 30 Jan 1920) Sadie Fisher, age 25 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), married, and employed as a maid for a private family, resided in the household headed by James C. Hull, age 58 (b. NYS) at Baldwin Place in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household did not include Sadie's suggested spouse.

 

1925 NYS Census: No clear record found.  Of possible interest, there was a Sadie Fisher, age 30, working as a servant in New York City, New York (pg 4; house 545).

 

1930 US Census: Sadie E. Froome, age 34 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and described as a "servant" was employed as a practical nurse for a private family in the household headed by Joseph Barrett, age 87 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS; widowed; residence valued at $3,000) on West Mahopac Falls Road in Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  She had married 1st at age 30.  The household also included Sadie's husband, Ernest Froome, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. England) and employed as an electrician for an electrical contractor, who was also described as a "servant."  Ernest married 1st at age 21.  Of interest, the household headed by Frank Fisher, age 37, was enumerated after them on the same census page.

 

It appears Sadie Austin may have had the following daughter from a 1918 out-of-wedlock relationship with (?) Fisher. (perhaps Frank S. Fisher, Sr., son of Byron Enis and Marietta (Zeliff) Fisher, who married Anna Georgianna Enzian, daughter of Lewis and Alice C. (Sniffen) Enzian, on 18 May 1918 at Ludingtonville, Putnam Co., NY)

 

1. Dorothy "Dotty" Blanche Fisher: Born 27 June 1919.  Died 24 August 2000 in Holiday Township, Pasco County, Florida; interred Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida.

 

1920 US Census: No record found for Dorothy Fisher, who would have been about 7 months old.

 

1930 US Census: [Sadie's father] William H. Austin, age 63 (m. 1st age 29) and employed as caretaker of a country estate, was heading a household on West Mahopac Falls Road, Carmel Township, Putnam County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Carrie Austin, age 62 (m. 1st age 27); son-in-law George Dagle, age 23 (m. 1st age 22) and employed as a chauffeur & truck driver; daughter, Ethel Dagle, age 25; and granddaughter, Dorothy Fisher, age 10.

 

1940 US Census: No record found for Dorothy Fisher.

 

1940 US Census: Norman Barger, age 21 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a caretaker for a private institution, resided at the Provincial Convent and Novitiate of Good Shepherds, Peekskill, Cortlandt Township, Westchester County, New York.  He had completed 2 years of high school.

 

Dorothy B. Fisher married Norman Edgar Barger (b. 27 Nov 1918 at Peekskill, Westchester Co., NY, d. 19 Apr 1988 in Bay County, Florida), son of Ira James and Elmira "Ella" (Travis) Barger, on 3 June 1945 at Peekskill, Westchester County, New York and had the following son:

 

a. Patrick "Pat" Barger: Reportedly took over his uncle Frankie Fisher's garbage collection service. (perhaps Frank S. Fisher, Jr. (b. 17 Jan 1921 in Putnam Co., NY, d. 15 Nov 1944 at Danbury, Fairfield Co., CT))
