NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  His real estate was valued at $2,500.  The household also included his wife, Susanna Bailey, age 77 (b. NYS); son, Jeremiah Bailey, age 32 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer; daughter-in-law, Electa Bailey, age 28 (b. PA); grandson, Jefferson Bailey, age 5 (b. PA); grandson, Joshua Bailey, age 3 (b. PA); granddaughter, Susan Bailey, age 10 months (b. PA); and Chas McNeal, age 20 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Joshua Bailey, age 54 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, was enumerated directly before him on the same census page.

1850 US Census: Jeremiah Bailey, age 32 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, and his wife and 3 children, resided in the household headed by his father in Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

 

1860 US Census: Jeremiah Bailey, age 43 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Celestia Bailey, age 39 (b. PA); son, Thomas Bailey, age 15 (b. PA); daughter, Johanna Bailey [quite legible; appears this should be son, Joshua Newton], age 13 (b. PA); daughter, Susan Bailey, age 10 (b. PA); son, John Bailey, age 7 (b. PA); daughter, Maderia Bailey, age 5 (b. PA); son, Chester Bailey, age 3 (b. PA); son, Joseph Bailey, age 7 months (b. PA); father, Joshua Bailey, age 91 (b. MA) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $1,000, and personal property was valued at $500; and mother, Susanna Bailey, age 85 (b. PA).  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Joshua Bailey, Jr., age 64 (b. PA); daughter, Lucy Baily, age 9 (b. PA); son, Joseph Baily, age 7 (b. PA); and son, Jeremiah Baily, Jr., age 4 (b. PA).  Of interest, the households headed by his sons, J. N. Baily, age 24, and Thomas J. Born 17 March 1847 in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died there 7 February 1926; interred there in Oak Hill Cemetery.  The Bailey homestead was sold at auction on 22 April 1967.

 

1870 US Census: J. N. Baily, age 24 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in North Towanda Township (Towanda Post Office), Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Susan Baily, age 23 (b. PA); daughter, Mary A. Baily, age 3 (b. PA); and son, Willie N. Baily, age 1 (b. PA).

 

1880 US Census: Newton J. Bailey, age 33 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a butcher, was heading a household in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Susan M. Bailey, age 33 (b. PA; parents b. PA); daughter, Mary A. Bailey, age 12 [very legible] (b. PA); son, William N. Bailey, age 11 (b. PA); daughter, Minnie E. Bailey, age 6 (b. PA); and son, Archie J. Bailey, age 1 (b. PA).  Of interest, the household headed by his father, Jeremiah Bailey, age 62 (b. PA) and a retired farmer, was enumerated directly before him on the same census page, and the household headed by Thomas J. Bailey, age 35 (b. PA) and a farmer, was enumerated directly after him on the same census page. 

 

1900 US Census: Neuton Bailey, age 53 (b. Mar 1847 in PA; parents b. NYS) and employed as a butcher, was heading a household at 9 Bridge Street in the Village of Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife of 30 years, Susan Bailey, age 52 (b. Sep 1847 in PA; parents b. PA), who had had 7 children, all still alive; daughter, Mary Bailey, age 16 (b. Jan 1884 in PA), single, and in school; and son, Johnie Bailey, age 10 (b. May 1890 in PA) and in school.

 

1910 US Census: Newton J. Bailey, age 64 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a truck farmer, was heading a household on New York Avenue in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 42 years, Susan M. Bailey, age 64 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who had been married once and had had 7 children, all still alive; and son, John A. Bailey, age 19 (b. PA; parents b. PA), single, and not employed.

 

1920 US Census: Newton J. Bailey, age 72 (b. PA) and employed as a truck farmer, was heading a household in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Susan M. Bailey, age 73 (b. PA); and servant for a private family, Anna Straton, age 62 (b. PA) and widowed.

Born 9 September 1847/46 in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Asa and Lucinda (Rundell) Slater.  Died 16 January 1922 in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred with Newton.  Married Newton Bailey about 1868.

 

1850 US Census: Susan Slater, age 3 (b. PA) and her sisters, Alvira Slater, age 7 (b. PA); Angeline Slater, age 6 (b. PA); and Emily Slater, age 1 (b. PA), resided in the household headed by their grandfather, Austin Rundell, age 47 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included Austin's wife, Rhoda Rundell, age 46 (b. PA); daughter, Lucinda Rundell, age 27 (b. PA) [Lucinda Slater?]; daughter, Susan Rundell, age 15 (b. PA); and daughter, M. A. Rundell, age 4 (b. PA).

c. Minnie E. Bailey: Born 11 April 1873 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 21 January 1934 at Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred Barton Cemetery, Barton, Tioga County, New York.  Married Miles E. Keene (b. 1873, d. 1947; interred with Minnie) and had children.

 

d. Archie J. Bailey: Born 18 January 1879 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Employed as a merchant.  Married Lottie (?).

 

e. Mary Bailey #2: Born January 1884 in Pennsylvania.

 

f. John Allen Bailey: Born 18 May 1890 in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 5 March 1961 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred there in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Operated a grocery store on the corner of James Street and York Avenue in the Village of Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Married Lillian May Mauger (b. 28 Oct 1889 in North Towanda Twp, Bradford Co., PA, d. 5 Jun 1975 at Towanda, Bradford Co., PA; interred with John), daughter of William J. and Melissa (Hawkins) Mauger, and had children.
