Born 23 February 1889 at the original Ira Gardner homestead farm at Gardnerville (near Evans Mills), LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York; daughter of Reuben J. and Estella/Estelle G.? (Lewis) Gardner.  Graduated there from District #3 grammar school.  Died 30 March 1968, age 79, from complications of a heart attack suffered on the front porch of her employer, Mrs. David A. Marshall, having just walked there from her residence to start the day’s work (pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital, Watertown); interred 2 April in North Watertown Cemetery.  Married David Philip Bennett on Wednesday afternoon, 1 October 1919 at the Reuben J. Gardner residence (original Ira Gardner homestead), LeRay Township, New York, with Ethel’s uncle, Reverend (Methodist-Episcopal) F. H. Lewis, officiating and with brother Clarence and Clarence’s wife, Grace (Helmer) Gardner, serving as witnesses.  In 1936 Ethel resided with David at 420 Moffett Street, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  Following David’s death continued to reside there with her brother, Henry R. Gardner, until he died 15 May 1967.  In 1954 she was also taking care of Mrs. Schell.  Resided last at 811 State Street, Watertown and was employed a couple of blocks down the street as a domestic servant for Mrs. David A. Marshall, 653 State Street.

Photos indicate David Philip Bennett’s father, Louis Henry Bennett of Cold Brook, Herkimer County, New York, and Myron Parsons Gardner of Gardnerville, Jefferson County, New York were acquainted and socialized.  This might explain, at least in part, how David came to meet and marry Myron’s cousin, Ethel, who also lived in Jefferson County.  The Bennetts and Gardners both appear to have participated in religious meetings at the Richland Camp Ground, east of Pulaski, where Myron and Tempa had a cottage.
