1. Biographical notes:

 

Born about 1809 in Onondaga County, New York.  Moved from there to Plymouth.

 

1855 New York State Census: Lester Blackman (age 46) was heading a household that also included his wife, Betsy (age 38); Son, Cyrus (age 21); Son, Henry (age 18; son, Alonzo (age 16); daughter, Melissa (age 14); and son, Daniel (age 5 months).

 

2. Wife: Betsy Gilbert:

 

Born approximately 1817.  “In the Majors Inn in Gilbertsville, New York, hanging of the fire place, hangs a picture of a family tree of the Gilberts with the name of Betsy Blackman.”

a. Cyrus Blackman: Born approximately 1834.

 

b. Henry Blackman: See generation 5, below.

 

c. Alonzo Blackman: Born approximately 1839.

 

d. Melissa Blackman: Born approximately 1841.  Married Dwight Brown and resided at Cortland, New York.

 

e. Daniel Blackman: Born approximately 1854.  Resided at Norwich, New York.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born approximately 1837 (age 18 at the time of the 1855 NYS Census).  Died approximately 1913 (age 76) at Plymouth, New York.  Funeral at his residence officiated by Reverend T.E. Webster of Preston.  Interred in South Plymouth Cemetery.

 

2. Wife: Adelaide M. (?) (more info)

 

Died at the home of her son, William Blackman at age 75.

b. Daughter: Married Charles E. Aldrich of 42 Fair Street, Norwich, New York.

 

c. Mina Blackman: Married Arthur Barrows/Barrow of McDonough, New York.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Resided initially at Plymouth, New York, then operated a farm near Preston, a small town near Norwich, Chenango County, New York.

 

2. Wife: Nellie Adams

 

Lost her mother (pneumonia) at an early age and was raised by her aunt (mother’s sister) Dolly (Sternbergh) Bowden and Dolly’s husband, Robert Bowden.  An accomplished pianist, Nellie’s musical education was funded by her uncle William Sternbergh.  Chose to marry William Blackman rather than take a tour of Europe.

 

3. Children:

 

a. William Blackman, Jr.: Born 1894.  Resided at Norwich, Chenango County, New York.  Died 1986.

 

b. Dorothy Dolly Adelaide Blackman: See generation 3, below.

 

c. Henry “Hank” Blackman: Resided at Norwich, Chenango County, New York.

 

d. Hazel “Light” Blackman: Married (?) Love and resided in Norwich, Chenango County, New York.

 

e. Josephine Blackman: Born 13 October 1902.  Married (?) Houghton and resided in Carthage, New York.  Died 28 June 1992.

 

f. Kenneth “Ken” Blackman: Born 21 July 1904.  Married Julia (?) and resided at Norwich, Chenango County, New York.

 

3   Dorothy Dolly Adelaide Blackman:

 

Born 5/6 April 1888.  Died 17 March 1981.  Married Floyd Ray White, generation 3 of the White Annex on 2 September 1904.

a. Robert Floyd White and Ruth Jane (White) Bovee, children of Dorothy A. (Blackman) White, referred to an “Aunt Min and Uncle Herm Parsons” who resided at Sherburne, Chenango County, New York.  Is this perhaps Mina Blackman, Dorothy’s aunt, who married (1st) Arthur Barrows and (2nd), Herm Parsons?
