Born 1791 at Stockbridge, Massachusetts.  Died 14 March 1857.  Veteran of the War of 1812; present at the burning of Buffalo; left military service in 1826.

MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $10,000.  The household also included his son, William Brace, Jr., age 36 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; Maria Brace, age 34 (CT); Lucinda Brace, age 14 (b. NYS); Hariet Brace, age 12 (b. NYS); William F. Brace, age 1 (b. NYS); and laborer, Thaddius Roach, age 19 (b. NYS).

Ontario Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  He had resided in Victor Township since birth.  The household also included his wife, Maria Brace, age 39 (b. MA), who had resided in Victor Township for 22 years; father, Wm Brace, age 64 (b. MA), who had resided in Victor Township for 62 years and was employed as a farmer; daughter, Lucinda Brace, age 18 (b. Ontario Co., NY); daughter, Harriet Brace, age 16 (b. Ontario Co., NY); and son, William F. Brace, age 5 (b. Ontario Co., NY).

1850 US Census: Thomas B. Brace, age 38 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,000.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Brace, age 36 (b. NYS); daughter, Minerva Brace, age 11 (b. NYS); and son, Romane W. Brace, age 3 (b. NYS).

 

1855 NYS Census: Thos Brace, age 43 (b. Ontario Co., NY), was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Octavia Brace, age 41 (b. Ontario Co., NY); daughter, Minerva Brace, age 16 (b. Ontario Co., NY); and son, Romain Brace, age 8 (b. Ontario Co., NY).

 

1860 US Census: Thos B. Brace, age 48 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $15,ooo and his personal property was valued at $3,350.  The household also included his wife, Octavia Brace, age 46 (b. NYS); and son, Romayne Brace, age 14 (b. NYS).  His next door neighbor was the household headed by Wm Brace, age 46.

 

1865 NYS Census: Thomas B. Brace, age 53 (b. Ontario Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife, Margaret O. Brace, age 51 (b. Albany Co., NY), who had had 3 children and who had been married once; and son, Romeyn W. Brace, age 18 (b. Ontario Co., NY), single, and employed as a farmer.

 

1870 US Census: Thomas Brace, age 58 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $8,000 and his personal property was valued at $500.  The household also included his wife, Octavia Brace, age 56 (b. Ontario Co., NY); and granddaughter, Mary Brace, age 2 years and 3 months (b. Ontario Co., NY).

VT), a retired farmer, was heading a household on West Main Street in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Margaret O. Brace, age 66 (b. NYS; parents b. Erie Co., NY); daughter, Bell Brace, age 23 (b. Ontario Co., NY); son, Fred Walling, age 17 (b. Ontario Co., NY), single, and employed as a clerk; son-in-law, William Brace, age 25 (b. Ontario Co., NY), with no occupation recorded; and mother, Sylvina Walling, age 74 (b. CT).

 

1880 US Census: William F. Brace, age 29 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. CT) and employed as a merchant tailor, resided in the household  headed by his father-in-law, James Walling, age 55 (b. MA; father b. MA; mother b. CT) and employed as a merchant tailor, on West Main Street in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included James' wife, M. Elizabeth Walling, age 49 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); James' son, Fred M. Walling, age 21 (b. NYS; father b. MA; mother b. NYS), single, and not employed; James' daughter [William's wife], Caroline B. Lear, age 38; and Hellen M. Lear, age 31.

 

1900 US Census: William F. Brace, age 49 (b. Sep 1850 in NYS) and employed as a merchant tailor, resided in the household headed by his father-in-law, James Walling, age 75 (b. Jan 1825 in MA; parents b. MA) in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  William had been married 24 years.  The household also included James' wife of 50 years, Mary E. Walling, age 69 (b. Dec 1830 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive; James' daughter, Belle W. Brace, age 48 (b. May 1852 in NYS), who  had been married 24 years and had had no children; James' son, Fred M. Walling, age 41 (b. Jul 1858 in NYS; father b. MA; mother b. 1880 US Census: Romeyn W. Brace, age 33, and his family resided in the household headed by his father in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.

 

1892 US Census: Romain Brace, age 45 and employed as Town Clerk, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary Brace, age 43; Birdie Brace, age 20 and employed as a teacher; and Leon Brace, age 13.

 

1900 US Census: Romeyn W. Brace, age 54 (b. Nov 1846 in NYS; parents b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a commercial traveler (salesman, machines), was heading a household on East Main Street in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 33 years, Mary E. Brace, age 51 (b. Mar 1849 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as an art teacher, who had had 3 children, all still alive; and son, Leon W. Brace, age 21 (b. May 1879 in NYS) who was an art student.

 

1910 US Census: Romeyn W. Brace, age 63 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. MA) and employed as a commercial traveler (salesman), was heading a household on Main Street East in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 46 years, Mary E. Brace, age 60 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as an artist in her own home, who had had 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive.  They had both been married once.  Of interest, their 2 children resided in next door household.

 

1915 NYS Census: Romeyn W. Brace, age 68, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary E. Brace, age 65. (pg 9, house # 26)

 

1925 NYS Census: Romayne W. Brace, age about 78, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary E. Brace, age about 76; and son, Romayne T. Brace, age 54. (pg 6)

 

1930 US Census: Romeyn W. Brace, age 83 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and retired, was heading a household in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $4,000 and he was married 1st at age 21.  The household also included his wife, Mary Brace, age 81 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who was married 1st at age 18; son, Romeyn T. Brace, age 58 (b. NYS) and widowed, with no occupation recorded; and daughter, Birdella Brace, age 56 (b. NYS) and widowed, with no occupation recorded.

1910 US Census: Charles Longyear, age 45 (b. NYS; father b. Dutch Hall; mother b. NYS) and employed as a concrete contractor, was heading a household on Main Street East in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 16 years, Birdella B. Longyear, age 37 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a musician for a church, who had had no children.  They had both been married once.  Of interest, Birdella's parents and her brother resided in next door households.

1900 US Census: Romeyn T. Brace, age 30 (b. Sep 1870 in NYS; parents b.  NYS) and employed as a laborer doing insulation work, was heading a household on Church Street in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 6 years, Grace G. Brace, age 28 (b. Feb 1872 in NYS; father b. Scotland; mother b. NYS), who had had 2 children, both still alive; son, Norman G. Brace, age 6 (b. NYS); daughter, Margaret O. Brace, age 1 month (b. NYS); and sister-in-law, Kate P. Gourley, age 42 (b. Nov 1858 in NYS) and single, with no occupation recorded.

 

1910 US Census: Romeyn T. Brace, age 39 (b. NYS) and employed as a machinist, was heading a household on Main Street East in the Village of Victor, Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 16 years, Grace T. Brace, age 37 (b. NYS; father b. English-speaking Scotland; mother b. NYS), who had had 2 children, both still alive; son, Norman G. Brace, age 15 (b. May 1894 in NYS) and single; daughter, Margaret O. Brace, age 9 (b. NYS); and sister-in-law, Keziah Gorlay, age 51 (b. NYS; father b. English-speaking Scotland) and single, who had no occupation recorded.  Of interest, they resided next door to households which included Romeyn's parents and sister.

 

1915 NYS Census: Romeyn Brace, age 44, was heading a household in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Grace J. Brace, age 43; son, Norman J. Brace, age 21; daughter, Margaret E. Brace, age 15. (pg 9; house # 26)

 

1940 US Census: Romeyn Brace, age 69 (b. NYS) and married, with no employment recorded, was lodging in the household headed by Thomas Mcmahon, age 70 (b. NYS) and single, with no employment recorded, at 42 West Main Street in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  Both had completed 8th grade.  In April 1935 Romeyn resided in the same township, and Thomas resided in the same house.

Born 19 February 1872 at Glens Falls, Warren County, New York, daughter of Norman R. and Relief (Moore) Gourlay.  Died 7 December 1922 in Victor Township, Ontario County, New York.  Married Romeyn Thomas Brace in 1892.
