1870 US Census: Andrew J. Burk, age 37 (b. VA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rolling Fork Precinct (Tower Ston? Post Office), Casey County, Kentucky.  His real estate was valued at $750, and his personal property was valued at $1,024.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth Burk, age 32 (b. KY); son, Joseph H. Burk, age 13 (b. KY); daughter, Virginia Burk, age 12 (b. KY); son, James W. Burk, age 8 (b. KY); daughter, Mary A. Burk, age 7 (b. KY); son, George Burk, age 5 (b. b. Virginia Frances Burke: Born 23 December 1857 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 13 June 1913 in Boyle County, Kentucky.  Married, as his 2nd wife, Franklin Pierce Combest (b. 1854, d. 1909) on 4 September 1889 in Boyle County, Kentucky and had children.

 

c. Henrietta Burke: Born 28 August 1859 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died young.

 

d. James William Burke: Born 21 July 1861 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 19 February 1911 in Lincoln County, Kentucky.

 

e. Mary A. Burke: Born 1863 in Casey County, Kentucky.

 

f. George A. Burke: Born 16 December 1864 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 3 April 1957 in Fayette County, Kentucky.  Married (1st) Mary E. (Rains) Russell (b. 14 Jul 1873 in Boyle Co., KY, d. 6 Mar 1940 at Danville, Boyle Co., KY), daughter of William and Rebecca A. (?) Raines. 

 

g. Fielding Thomas Burke "Thomas": Born 2 February 1867 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 2 July 1945 in Boyle County, Kentucky.  Married Maggie (?) (b. abt 1878 in KY).

 

1930 US Census: Fielden T. Burk, age 63 (b. KY; father b. VA; mother b. KY) and not employed, was heading a household on Bellvue Street in Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.  He married 1st at age 34, and his residence was valued at $4,500.  The household also included his wife, Maggie Burk, age 52 (b. KY; parents b. KY), who married 1st at age 23.  Of interest, the household headed by his great nephew, Maurice G. Burk, age 25, was enumerated before him on the same census page.

 

h. Silas Logan Burke: Born 30 September 1868 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 9 September 1913 in Garrard County, Kentucky.  Married Ada W. Oldham (b. Aug 1866 in Lincoln Co., KY, d. 10 Aug 1953 in Boyle Co., KY) on 13 August 1891 in Burgin Township, Mercer County, Kentucky and had children.

Born 3 June 1870 in Casey County, Kentucky.  Died 14 August 1945, age 75 years, 2 months, and 13 days, from complications of apoplexy and hypertension, at Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.

 

1900 US Census: S. W. Burke, age 29 (b. Jun 1870 in KY; parents b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household at Bryantsville, Garrard County, Kentucky.  The household also included his wife of 1 year, Lillie Burke, age 30 (b. May 1870 in KY; parents b. KY), who had had 1 child, still alive [not enumerated with its parents]; mother, Elizabeth Burke, age 65 (b. Aug 1834 in KY; parents b. KY) and widowed, who had had 11 children, all still alive; and aunt, Mary Cunningham, age 62 (b. Jul 1837 in KY, parents b. KY) and single.

 

1910 US Census: Sam W. Burke, age 39 (b. KY; father b. VA; mother b. 1940 US Census: Samuel W. Burke, age 70 (b. KY) and employed as proprietor of a bakery, was heading a household in Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.  He had completed 4 years of high school.  The household also included his wife, Lillie Burke, age 70 (b. KY), who had completed 4 years of high school.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.

Born 13 May 1870 in Pulaski County, Kentucky; daughter of Martin Van and Margaret L./E. (Patterson) Owens, in 1899.  Died 15 February 1961, age 90, from complications of coronary thrombosis, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky; interred 18 February 1861 in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville, Kentucky.  Married Samuel Watson Burke about 1898.

d. Harold Cunningham Burke: (photos) Born 1903.  Died 1966.  Original owner of "Burke's Bakery" in Danville, Boyle County, Kentucky; purchased it from (?) Steinburger; sold it to his brother, M. Glynn Burke in 1945.  At age 21 married Agatha Blaine (photos), age 21, daughter of J. G. and Ella (?) Blaine, on 18 October 1927 (license issued 18 Nov 1924 at Lexington, KY) at Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.

Born 20 December 1904 in Kentucky.  Died 12/13 April 1971 at Danville, Boyle County, Kentucky.  Purchased "Burke's Bakery" in Danville from his brother, Harold Burke in 1945.  In 1966 sold the bakery to his son, Sam W. Burke, III.

 

1930 US Census: Maurice G. Burk, age 25 (b. KY; parents b. KY) and employed as a commercial traveler for a bakery, was heading a household on Bellevue Street in Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.  He married 1st at age 18.  The household also included his wife, Nancy E. Burk, age 23 (b. KY; parents b. KY), who married 1st at age 16; daughter, Dorothy R. Burk, age 7 (b. KY); son, Sammy W. Burk, age 4 (b. KY); son, Maurice G. Burk, Jr., age 4 months (b. KY); and mother-in-law, Arjane Fox, age 67 (b. KY) and widowed, who married 1st at age 18 and whose real estate was valued at $3,000.  Of interest, the household headed by his great uncle, Fielden T.     Note: Sam III's parents wanted to name him Sam W. Burke, III, for his grandfather and uncle of that name, but Sam III's mother did not like Watson, so she changed his middle name to Woodson, which had no known family significance.  He was always referred to as Sam III.

 

Born 14 November 1925 at Junction City, Boyle County, Kentucky.  Died 15 November 2014 at Danville, Boyle County, Kentucky.  Married Mary Ann Biles, paragraph 4.C.1.e.(1.(a.(2) of the Alexander Patterson Biles (7) page on 10 February 1945 at Wibaux, Wibaux County, Montana, where Sam was on active duty in the US Navy.
