Born September 1826 in Sussex County, New Jersey (gravestone says b. 1823).  Died 1921 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Veteran of the American Civil War; member of Company I, 8th Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers.

 

1850 US Census: Daniel Campbell, age 20 (b. Sussex Co., NJ) and employed as a laborer, was heading a household in Frankford Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.  The household also included his wife, Eveline Campbell, age 21 (b. NJ); daughter, Ellen Campbell, age 4 (b. NJ); and son, William D. Campbell, age 11 months (b. NJ).  Of interest, the households headed by Conrad Campbell, age 25, and Ann Campbell, age 48, were enumerated on the same Census page.

 

1860 US Census: Daniel Campbell, age 30 (b. NJ) and employed as a day laborer, was heading a household in Frankford Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.  His personal property was valued at $50.  The household also included his wife, Emeline Campbell, age 29 (b. NJ); William D. Campbell, age 9 (b. NJ); Sarah M. Campbell, age 6 (b. NJ); and Mary L. Campbell, age 7 months (b. NJ).

 

1870 US Census: There was a Danl Cammell, age 44 (b. NJ) and employed as a farm laborer, was heading a household in Hampton Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.  His real estate was valued at $350; no personal property value.  The household also included Wm Dayton Cammell, age 20 (b. NJ), with no occupation recorded; Margret Cammell, age 18 (b. NJ) and employed keeping house; Mary Cammell, age 12 (b. NJ); Osker Cammell, age 8 (b. NJ); Wm Osker Cammell, age 1 month (b. NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Herrick Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Margart Campbell, age 23 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ); and son, Daniel J. Campbell, age 4 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ).

 

1900 US Census: William Campbell, age 50 (b. Dec 1949 in NJ; parents b. NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife of 26 years, Margret A. Campbell, age 44 (b. May 1856 in NJ; parents b. NJ), who had had 1 child, still alive; and father, Daniel Campbell, age 74 (b. Sep 1826 in NJ).

 

1910 US Census: William D. Campbell, age 59 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Brewer Hollow Road in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife of 39 years, Margaret A. Campbell, age 52 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ), who had had 1 child, still alive; granddaughter, Margaret Vaughn, age 9 (b. PA; parents b. PA); and granddaughter, Daisy B. Vaughn, age 6 (b. PA; parents b. PA; parents b. PA) and single, with no occupation recorded; and grandson, Howard Campbell, age 13 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and single.

1900 US Census: Daniel J. Campbell, age 25 (b. Sep 1875 in NJ; parents b. NJ) and employed as a hay presser, was heading a household in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife of 1 year, May Bell E. Campbell, age 25 (b. Sep 1875 in PA; parents b. PA).

 

1910 US Census: Daniel J. Campbell, age 34 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Brewer Hollow Road in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  He had been married twice.  The household also included his wife of 4 years, Mabel C. Campbell, age 29 (b. PA; father b. PA; mother b. NJ), who had had 2 children, both still alive; daughter, Elizabeth J. Campbell, age 3 (b. PA); and son, John Campbell, age 2 (b. PA).  Of interest, the household headed by his father, William D. Campbell, age 59, enumerated nearby, and that household included Daniel's 2 daughters from his 1st marriage.

 

1920 US Census: Daniel J. Campbell, age 44 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ) and employed as a day laborer, was heading a household on Taylor Avenue in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. [died soon after in a car accident]  The household also included his wife, Mabel C. Campbell, age 39 (b. PA; father b. PA; mother b. NJ); daughter, Julia E. Campbell, age 13 (b. PA); son, John D. Braintree, England) and initially resided in Connecticut.  Took up a land grant and moved to Athens, Bradford County, where his daughter, Hazel, later resided.  William and Candace had the following children:

 

a. Herbert A. Campbell: Born 22 February 1893.  Died 31 July 1977.  Married Lovinia Mary Wands “Mary”, daughter of (?) (Sherwood) Wands, on 20 October 1920 and resided at Dobb’s Ferry, New York.  Herbert and Mary had the following children:

 

(1. Janice Irene Campbell: Married (1st) Joseph Candela (b. 26 Jun 1923, d. 31 Dec 1968) and in 1977 moved to Port Clyde, Maine (also seen: resided at Dobbs Ferry, ME).  Janice and Joseph had the following children:
