Born 27 January 1881 in the City of Oakland, Alameda
County, California. Died there 10 April 1951; interred there in
Mountain View Cemetery.
1910 US Census: Allen Cheney, age 28 (b. CA; parents
b. Ireland) and employed as a railroad engineer, was heading a household at 842
17th Street in the City of Oakland, Alameda County, California. The household also included his wife of 4
years, Matilda Cheney, age 26 (b. CA; parents b. Germany), who had had 2
children, both still alive; son, Allen F. Cheney, age 3 (b. CA); and son,
Herman O. Cheney, age 6 months (b. CA).
1920 US Census: Allen F. Cheney, age 38 (b. CA;
father b. English-speaking Canada; mother b. Ireland) and employed as a trucker
for a creamery, was heading a household at 632 12th Street in the City of
Modesto, Modesto Township, Stanislaus County, California. The household also included his wife, Matilda
O. Cheney, age 35 (b. CA; parents b. Germany); son, Allen F. Cheney, age 13 (b.
CA); son, Herman O. Cheney, age 10 (b. CA); son, Frank J. Cheney, age 1 (b.
CA); and roomer, Frank R. Mahan, age 43 (b. CA; parents b. MO) and employed as
a truck driver for a creamery.
1930 US Census: Allen Cheney, age 48 (b. CA; father
b. CA; mother b. Ireland) and employed as a locomotive engineer, was heading a
household at 819 Arlington Avenue in the City of Oakland, Alameda County,
California. He was married 1st at age
21. The household also included his
wife, Tilley Cheney, age 44 (b. CA; parents b. Germany), who was married 1st at
age 17; son, Allan Cheney, age 23 (b. CA) and employed as a locomotive fireman;
son, Herman Cheney, age 21 (b. CA) and employed as a salesman for an oil

had completed 4 years of high school; son, Frank Cheney, age 21 (b. CA) and
single, who had completed 2 years of college and was employed as a truck driver
for a creamery; and daughter, Janett Cheney, age 20
