Born 12 November 1710 in Northampton Township, Hampshire County, Massachusetts; daughter of Jeremiah and Priscilla (McClaflin) Webb.  Died 13 December 1790 at Westfield, Aroostook County, Maine.  Married, as her 1st husband, Abel Drake on 9 October 1734 at Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.  Experience (Webb) Drake married (2nd) Josiah Watkins, son of Samuel Watkins, on 3 November 1749 at Westfield, Massachusetts and had the following children:

1790 US Census: This Benjamin Drake would have been about age 55.  One Benjamin Drake was heading a household in Massachusetts; in Worthington Township, Hampshire County, a little northwest of Westfield, Hampden County.

 

1800 US Census: This Benjamin Drake would have been about age 65.  One Benjamin Drake was heading a household in Massachusetts: way to the east of Westfield in Mansfield Township, Bristol County.

 

1810 US Census: This Benjamin Drake would have been about age 75.  There were 2 Benjamin Drakes heading households in Massachusetts; 1 in Norfolk County, near Boston, and 1 in Worcester County, significantly east of Hampden County.

 

1820 US Census: This Benjamin Drake would have been about age 85.  Two Drake households in Westfield Township, Massachusetts included males age 45 and above: those headed by Moses and Moses Jr.  Only one Benjamin Drake household was enumerated in Massachusetts - way to the east of Westfield, in Mansfield Township, Bristol County, which included 1 male above age 45.

Born 6 July 1784 in Sharon Township, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.  Died 11 August 1854 in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York; interred there in Riverside Cemetery.  About 1809 moved to Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.

 

1820 US Census: Caleb Drake was heading a household in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household included 2 males age 10 to 16; 1 male age 16 to 26; 1 male age 26 to 45; 2 females age under age 10; 1 female age 10 to 16; 1 female age 16 to 26; and 1 female age 26 to 45.  Four members of the household were engaged in agriculture.  Of interest, the household headed by Luther Drake was enumerated nearby on the same census page.

 

1830 US Census: Caleb Drake was heading a household in Rossie Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household included 2 males age 5 to 10; 1 male age 30 to 40; 1 male age 40 to 50; 2 females age 10 to 15; and 1 female age 40 to 50.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Hiram, was enumerated directly afterward on the same census page, and the household headed by Luther Drake was enumerated a couple of households after that, top of the next census page.

MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,900.  The household also included his wife, Lydia Drake, age 58 (b. NYS); son, Benjamin Drake, age 25 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; daughter-in-law, Arrissa Drake, age 25 (b. NYS); Don Carlos Drake, age 2 (b. NYS); Edgar Drake, age 12 (b. NYS); daughter, Hellen Drake, age 4 (b. NYS); daughter, Hattie Drake, age 3 (b. NYS); and son, Homer Drake, age 1 month (b. NYS).

 

1870 US Census: Oramel Drake, age 39 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Julia Drake, age 38; daughter, Helen Drake, age 14; daughter, Hattie Drake, age 12; son, Homer L. Drake, age 9; and domestic servant, Caroline Meshaw, age 14 (b. Canada).

1860 US Census: Darwin Drake, age 24 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Macomb Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $1,000, and his personal property was valued at $400.  The household also included his wife, Lodema? Drake, age 20 (b. NYS); and son, Erwin H. Drake, age 5 months (b. NYS).

 

1870 US Census: Darwin Drake, age 34 (b. NYS) and employed as a school teacher, was heading a household in Wales Township, St. Clair County, Michigan.  His personal property was valued at $800.  The household also included his wife, Lodema Drake, age 29 (b. NYS); son, Harvy Drake, age 10 (b. NYS); and son, Charles Drake, age 5 (b. IA).

 

1880 US Census: Darwin Drake, age 45 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. VT) and employed as a teacher, was heading a household in Wales Township, St. Clair County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Lodema Drake, age 38 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); son, Harvey Drake, age 20 (b. NYS) and employed as  a teacher; and son, Charles Drake, age 15 (b. IA).

 

1900 US Census: Darwin Drake, age 65 (b. Jul 1835 in NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. VT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Village of Yale, Brockway Township, St. Clair County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife of 40 years, Lodema Drake, age 59 (b. Apr 1841 in NYS; father b. VT; mother b. NYS), who had had 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive.

 

Darwin Drake married Lodema M. Burch (b. 28 Apr 1841 at Yale, MI, d. 24 Jun 1934, age 93, at Lutz, Hillsborough Co., FL), daughter of Charles (b. VT) and Rachael (Lashbrooks) Burch (b. NYS), and had the following children:

 

(a. Erwin Harvey Drake "Harvey": Born about 1857 in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence Co., NY).  Died 1951.  Employed as an attorney.

 

1900 US Census: Harvey E. Drake, age 39 (b. Jan 1860 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as an attorney, was heading a  household on Mechanic Street in the Village of Yale, Brockway Township, St. Clair County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife of 17 years, Alice Drake, age 36 (b. Aug 1863 in MI; parents b. ME), who had had 2 children, both still alive; son, Clarence Drake, age 16 (b. Apr 1884 in MI); and daughter, Jean Drake, age 9 (b. Apr 1891 in MI).  Of interest, the household headed by William B. Ballentine, age 68 (b. Jul 1831 in ME) was enumerated directly afterwards on the next census page.

 

At age 23 Harvey Drake married Alice J. Ballentine (b. Brockway, MI), age 19, perhaps the daughter of William B. and Jane (?) Ballentine, on 5 June 1883 in St. Clair County Michigan and had the following children: (order uncertain)

 

(1) Clarence A. Drake: Born about 1884 in St. Clair County, Michigan.  At age 26 married  Etta Bowen, age 21, daughter of James and Mary (Robson) Bowen, on 1 June 1910 at Melvin, Sanilac County, Michigan.

 

(2) Jean M. Drake: Born about .  At age 25 married Charles Cavanagh, age 30, son of William and Alice (Presley) Cavanagh, on 20 May 1916 (license issued 19 May 1916) at Yale, St. Clair County, Michigan. 

 

(b. Child: Died before 1880.

 

(c. Charles Burch Drake: Born 21 April 1865 at Jacksonville, Jackson Township, Shelby County, Iowa.  Died 5 June 1929, age 64, at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.  At age 32 married (1st) Gertrude A. Bliss (b. abt 1873 at Lapeer, MI), age 24, daughter of P. and Mary (Roberts) Bliss, on 10 August 1897 (license issued 5 Aug 1897) in Lewiston Township, Montmorency County, Michigan.  At age 55 Charles Drake married (2nd) Genevera Willet (b. abt 1870 at North Planes, MI), age 50, daughter of James D. and Mary/May (Germaine) Willett, on 4 September 1920 (license issued 30 Aug 1920) in Sheridan County, Michigan.

 

(3. Edgar Hiram Drake: Born 26 August 1837 in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Veteran of the American Civil War.

 

1860 US Census: Edgar Drake, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Fowler Township (Hailesboro Post Office), St. Lawrence County, New York.  No record of real estate or personal property value.  The household also included his wife, Emiline Drake, age 25 (b. NYS); likely brother-in-law, Royal W. Smith, age 17 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; likely sister-in-law, Serrepta E. Smith, age 12 (b. NYS); and servant, Eliza Pratt, age 21 (b. NYS).  Of interest, the household headed by his likely father-in-law, Allen Smith, age 54, and his wife, Fanny Smith, age 54, was enumerated just before and perhaps under the same roof.  Allen's real estate was valued at $5,000, and his personal property was valued at $1,100.

 

1870 US Census: Edgar H. Drake, age 33 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $5,600; no record provided for personal property value.  The household also included is wife, Emeline Drake, age 35 (b. NYS); daughter, Eva C. Drake, age 7 (b. NYS); father, Hiram Drake, age 62 (b. NYS); mother, Lois Drake, age 70 (b. VT); and Albert Raven, age 16 (b. NYS) and employed as  a farm laborer.

 

1880 US Census: E. H. Drake, age 43 (b. NYS; father b. VT; mother b. NYS) and employed as a machinist, was heading a household in Gouverneur Township, St. Lawrence County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Emiline Drake, age 44 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); daughter, Eva Drake, age 17 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a bookkeeper; and son, Earnest Drake, age 2 (b. NYS).

Drake, age 62 (b. NYS), widowed, and employed as a traveling salesman, who had completed 4 years of college; and a number of highly educated lodgers.  On 1 April 1935 Eva and Ernest resided in the same house.

1900 US Census: Earnest A. Drake, age 22 (b. Oct 1877 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a mechanical engineer, was boarding in the household headed by William O. Goodwin, age 40, in the City of Buffalo, Erie County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Grace E. S. Drake, age 19 (b. Mar 1881 in NYS; father b. AL; mother b. NYS), who had had no children.

 

1910 US Census: Ernest A. Drake, age 32 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as manager of a lamp company, was heading a household at 113 Oak Avenue in the City of Ithaca, Ithaca Township, Tompkins County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 10 years, Grace E. S. Drake, age 29 (b. NYS; father b. AL; mother b. NYS), who had been married once and had had 2 children, 1 of whom was still alive; and daughter, Ernestine C. Drake, age 1 year and 11 months (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).  Of interest, the household headed by James M. Hart, age 70, and James' wife of 26 years, Clara D. Hart, age 55, was enumerated directly afterwards.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Ernest Allen Drake, age 40 (b. 9 Oct 1877) and employed as manager and electrical engineer for the Benjamin Electric Manufacturing Company, resided with his wife, Dorethea S. Drake, at 444 Keystone Avenue in River Forest, Cook County, Illinois.

 

1920 US Census: Ernest A. Drake, age 42 (b. NYS), widowed,  and employed as manager of an electric company, was heading a household at 444 North Keystone Avenue in the Village River Forest, River Forest Township, Cook County, Illinois.  The household also included his son, Bartlett Drake, age 11 (b. IL; father b. NYS; mother b. IL); daughter, June Drake, age 3 years and 5 months (b. IL; father b. NYS; mother b. IL); aunt, Sarapta Pease, age 72 (b. NYS) and widowed; nurse for a private family, Dagmer Larson, age 20 (b. Norway), who immigrated to the US in 1903; and gardener for a private family, John Barup, age 42 (b. IN; parents b. IN) and single.

 

1930 US Census: E. A. Drake, age 51 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, and employed as manager of a hotel, was heading a household at 4651 Magnolia Avenue in the City of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  His residence was valued at $165,000.  Among many other lodgers, the household also included his son, B. H. Drake, age 21 (b. IL; father b. NYS; mother b. IL), single, and employed as a  hotel clerk.

(b. NY City, NY) and Ella A. (O'Brien) Syers (b. Tower Hill, IL), on 3 April 1912 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and had the following children:

 

(2) Bartlett Hart Drake: Born 10 November 1908 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  Died 25 February 1964 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; interred Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  Employd as a manager.  Married and divorced.

(4. Erwin Luther Drake: Born June 1845 in St. Lawrence County, New York.  Died 1927 in Oklahoma.
