Born/baptized 1799 at Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts; daughter of Winthrop (b. 1772, d. 1854) and Achsah B. (Loomis) Shepard (b. 1772, d. 1836).  Died 1864 in Lewis County, New York.  Married (1st) Moses Drake on 20 July 1820 at Suffield, Harford County, Connecticut.  Married (2nd) Gilman Platts about 1829 at Turin, Lewis County, New York and perhaps had the following daughter:

 

a. Paulina Platts: Born about 1831 in New York.

 

1840 US Census: Gilmon Platts was heading a household in Turin Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household included 1 male age 5 to 10; 1 male age 30 to 40; 1 female age 5 to 10; 1 female age 15 to 20; and 1 female age 30 to 40.

 

1850 US Census: Gilmon Platts, age 50 (b. NYS) and employed as a mechanic, was heading a household in Turin Township, Lewis County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $300.  The household also included his wife, Mariah Platts, age 51 (b. MA); [step-daughter ] Mary Ann Platts, age 27 (b. MA); [perhaps step-son] Lorin Platts, age 25 (b. NYS [note: if this is Loren Drake, should be b. MA]) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $1,200; and [perhaps daughter] Paulina Platts, age 19 (b. NYS).

Born 29 September 1825 at Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.  Died 7 January 1904 in Turin Township, Lewis County, New York.

 

1850 US Census: Lorin Platts, age 25 (b. NYS) resided in the household headed by Gilman Platts, age 50 (b. NYS), in Turin Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included Lorin's mother, Mariah Platts, age 51 (b. MA). 

 

1850 US Census: Of possible interest, Loren Drake, age 24 (b. Germany) and employed as a laborer, resided in the household headed by Frederick Baker, age 24 (b. Germany) in Greig Township (near Turin Twp), Lewis County, New York.

 

1855 NYS Census: Loren Drake, age 29 (b. MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Ava Township, Oneida County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth Drake, age 20 (b. Oneida Co., NY); son, Loren Drake, age 2 (b. Oneida Co., NY); and son, Osker Drake, age 4 months (b. Oneida Co., NY).  Loren, Elizabeth, and Loren, Jr. had resided in Ava Township for 2 years.

 

1860 US Census: Loren Drake, age 34 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Ava Township (Boonville Division Post Office), Oneida County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $6,000, and his personal property was valued at $1,755.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth Drake, age 25 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer; son, Loren Drake, age 7 (b.  NYS); son, Oscar Drake, age 5 (b. NYS); Nicholas Oswalt, age 24 (b. Germany) and employed as a farm laborer; Adeline Roser, age 19 (b. NYS) and employed as a domestic servant.

 

1865 NYS Census: Loren Drake, age 40 (b. Lewis Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Ava Township, Oneida County, New York.  He had been married once, and his residence was valued at $400.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth M. Drake, age 30 (b. Oneida Co., NY), who had been married once and had had 5 children; son, Loren S. Drake, age 12 (b. Oneida Co., NY); son, Oscar D. Drake, age 10 (b. Oneida Co., NY); daughter, Ione B. Drake, age 11 months (b. Oneida Co., NY); and servant, Emma Fox, age 18 (b. Lewis Co., NY).

 

1875 NYS Census: Loren Drake, age 50 (b. MA) and employed as (perhaps a farmer; not recorded), was heading a household in Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth Drake, age 46 (b. Oneida Co., NY); so, Oscar D. Drake, age 20 (b. not recorded) and single; and niece, Lilly Utley, age 18 (b. Lewis Co., NY).

 

1892 NYS Census: Loran Drake, age 67 (b. US), was heading a household in Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Cara S. Drake, age 52 (b. US).

 

1900 US Census: Loren Drake, age 74 (b. Sep 1825 in NYS; parents b. MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Village of Port Leyden, Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  He married 1st at age 50.  The household also included his wife, Caroline Drake, age 56 (b. Mar 1851 in NYS; parents b. England), who married 1st at age 18; son, Oscar D. Drake, age 43 (b. Sep 1856 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farm laborer, who married 1st at age 20; and domestic servant, Estella Loness, age 30 (b. Mar 1870 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and single.

Born 14 May 1853 in Oneida County, New York.  Died 27 February 1943; interred Port Leyden Cemetery, Port Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  In 1922 moved from Burlington, Kansas to Port Leyden, Lewis County, New York.

 

1875 NYS Census: Loren S. Drake, age 22 (b. Oneida Co., NY) and employed as (perhaps a farmer; not recorded), was heading a household in Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  His residence was valued at $4,000.  The household also included his wife, Lnyseve? M. Drake, age 19 (b. Lewis Co., NY); servant, Katie Burk, age 16 (b. Lewis Co., NY); and cousin, Walter Utley, age 15 (b. Lewis Co., NY).  Of interest, the household headed by his father, Loren Drake, age 50, was enumerated directly afterwards.

 

1880 US Census: L. S. Drake, age 27 (b. NYS; father b. MA; mother b. NYS), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Liberty Township, Coffey County, Kansas.  The household also included his daughter, M. Hellen Drake, age 2 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and brother-in-law, W. C. Utley, age 20 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farm laborer.

 

1895 KS Census: Lorin S. Drake, age 41 (b. NYS) and employed as an ice merchant, was heading a household in the City of Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas.  He moved to Kansas from New York.  The household also included his wife, Tillie Y. Drake, age 41 (b. IL), who moved to Kansas from Wisconsin; daughter, Helen M. Drake, age 17 (b. NYS), who moved to Kansas from New York; daughter, Ione E. Drake, age 9 (b. KS); son, Ira H. Drake, age 7 (b. KS); and son, Harry L. Drake, age 4 (b. KS).

 

1900 US Census: Loren S. Drake, age 47 (b. May 1853 in NYS; father b. MA; mother b. NYS) and employed as an ice dealer, was heading a household on Garretson Street in the City of Burlington, Burlington Township, Coffey County, Kansas.  The household also included his wife of 20 years, Tillie Y. Drake, age 46 (b. Feb 1854 in IL; father b. OH; mother b. NC), who had had 3 children, all still alive; daughter, Helen M. Drake, age 22 (b. Aug 1877 in NYS) and employed as an art painter; daughter, Ione E. Drake, age 14 (b. Aug 1885 in KS); son, Ira H. Drake, age 13 (b. Apr 1887 in KS); and son, Harry L. Drake, age 9 (b. Jun 1890 in KS).

 

1910 US Census: Loren S. Drake, age 56 (b. NYS; father b. MA; mother b. NYS) and employed as a retail ice merchant, was heading a household on Everett Street in the City of Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas.  He had been married twice.  The household also included his father-in-law, James Haven, age 89 (b. OH; parents b. VA) and widowed; wife of 29 years, Tillie Y. Drake, age 56 (b. IL; father b. OH; mother b. NC), who had been married once and had had 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive; and son, Harry Drake, age 19 (b. KS; father b. NYS; mother b. IL), single, and employed as a clerk in a department store.

 

1920 US Census: Loran S. Drake, age 66 (b. NYS) and employed as an ice dealer, was heading a household on Faustt Street in the City of Burlington Township, Coffey County, Kansas.  The household also included his wife, Tillie Drake, age 65 (b. IL; father b. OH; mother b. NC); and son-in-law, Fred L. Ritchey, age 42 (b. KS; parents b. PA), widowed, and employed as a miller in a flour mill.

 

1930 US Census: Loren S. Drake, age 76 (b. NYS; father b. MA; mother b. NYS) and not employed, was heading a household on Church Street in the Village of Port Leyden, Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  He married 1st at age 21.  The household also included his wife, Matilda Y. Drake, age 76 (b. IL; father b. OH; mother b. NC) and not employed, who married 1st at age 26.

 

1940 US Census: Loren S. Drake, age 86 (b. NYS) and widowed, resided in the household headed by his son, Harry L. Drake, age 49, on Douglas Street in the Village of Port Leyden, Port Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.

Born 17 June 1890 in the City of Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas.  Died 2 July 1968; interred Port Leyden Cemetery, Port Leyden, Lewis County, New York.

 

1917 WWI Draft Registration: Harry Loren Drake, age 26 (b. 17 Jun 1890 in Burlington Twp, KS) and employed as a merchant and post office clerk employed by George W. Niece in the Village of Port Leyden, Lewis County, New York, resided with his wife in the Village of Port Leyden, New York.  He named 

 

1920 US Census: Harry Drake, age 29 (b. KS; parents b. NYS) and employed as manager of a grocery store, was heading a household on Mechanic Street in the Village of Port Leyden, Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Madeline Drake, age 25 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

1930 US Census: Harry Drake, age 38 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as manager of a grocery store, was heading a household on Douglass Street in the Village of Port Leyden, Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  He married 1st at age 24.  The household also included his daughter, Margaret I. Drake, age 10 years and 7? months (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); son, Loran H. Drake, age 5 years and 4? months (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and servant, Rose Kibby, age 42 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, who married 1st at age 20.

 

1940 US Census: Harry L. Drake, age 49 (b. KS; father b. NYS; mother b. IL) and employed as proprietor of a retail department store, was heading a household on Douglas Street in the Village of Port Leyden, Port Leyden Township, Lewis County, New York.  He had completed 2 years of high school, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Mary A. Drake, age 42 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of college; son, Loren L. Drake, age 15 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; and father, Loren S. Drake, age 86 (b. NYS) and widowed, who had completed 1 year of college.  On 1 April 1935 Harry and Loren L. resided in the same house; Mary resided at Utica, Oneida County, New York; and his father resided in the same township.
