1855 NYS Census: Stephen Getman, age 22 (b. Herkimer Co., NY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  His log residence was valued at $100.  The household also included his wife, Mary Getman, age 19 (b. Herkimer Co., NY); son, Andrew Getman, age 7 months (b. Jefferson Co., NY); and brother-in-law, Henry I. Waggoner, age 21 (b. Getman, age 33 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had been married once and had had 4 children, all still alive; daughter, Emma F. Getman, age 8 (b. NYS); son, Stanley H. Getman, age 6 (b. NYS); daughter, Dorris Getman, age 5 (b. NYS); son, Carl W. Getman, age 3 (b. 3 ); and hired man, George B. Eckert, age 25 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a farm laborer working out.  Of interest, the farming household headed by Henry W. Bretsch, age 66 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany) and his wife of 34 years, Minnie M. Hessendarmstadt) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Victory Bretsch, age 71 (b. Hessendarmstadt; parents b. Hessendarmstadt); son, Phillip R. Bretsch, age 43 (b. NYS), single, and employed laboring at home; son, Henry W. Bretsch, age 37 (b. NYS) and employed as a laborer; daughter-in-law, Minnie Bretsch, age 27 (b. NYS); granddaughter, Dora F. Bretsch, age 3 (b. NYS); and grandson, Webster Bretsch, age 7 months (b. Oct 1879 in NYS).  Of interest, other Bretsch households were enumerated on the same census page.

1940 US Census: Carl W. Getman, age 33 (b. NYS) and employed as a dairy farmer, was heading a household on Tanners Corners Road in rural Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Hilda M. Getman, age 31 (b. NYS), who had completed 3 years of high school; and son, Douglas G. Getman, age 9 (b. NYS), who had completed 4th grade.  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.

 

2. Wife: Hilda Mae Wagoner

 

Born 21  June 1908 at Alexandria Bay, Jefferson County, New York; daughter of Albert (b. NYS) and Mable (Stevens) Wagoner (b. England) of Clayton, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Died 5 November 1999; interred with Carl.  At age 19 married Carl William Getman of LaFargeville, New York on 1 November 1927 (license issued 28 Oct 1927) at Clayton, Alexandria Township, Jefferson County, New York.
