Elmhurst, Long Island, NY).  Employed as a weaver at London, England.  By October 1771 moved from there to Newtown, Long Island, New York, where he was employed as a weaver and farmer.

M. Wood and J. W. Daniels in Onondaga County, New York.  In 1823 Richard and Mary acquired land from John Hodgson, Jr. in Salina (Latin for "salt") Township, Onondaga County, New York.  In 1830 his executors acquired land from B. William Richard Gorsline: Born 28 January 1824 in Manlius Township, Onondaga County, New York.  Died 2 March 1879 in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin; interred there in Wildwood Cemetery.  In 1838 his guardian acquired land for him from J. Lynch.  Orphaned very young; subsequently raised by an uncle.  In 1845 moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to study law.  In 1860 was employed as an attorney in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (58 miles north of Milwaukee).  From 1866 to 1870 was a judge in Wisconsin and Colorado.

 

1860 US Census: William R. Gorsline, age 36 (b. NY) and employed as a lawyer, was heading a household in the City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.  His real estate was valued at $1,400, and his personal property was valued at $500.  The household also included his wife, Julia F. Gorsline, age 23 (b. NY); son, Frederick Gorsline, age 1 (b. WI); Caroline Newcomb, age 17 (b. NY); Augusta Newcomb, age 18 (b. Prussia) and employed as a domestic servant; and Ernstina Newcomb, age 30 (b. Prussia) and employed as a seamstress.

 

1870 US Census: William Gorsline, age 46 (b. NYS) and employed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, was heading a household in Central City, Gilpin County, Colorado.  His real estate was valued at $3,500, and his personal property was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Julia Gorsline, age 33 (b. NYS), whose real estate was valued at $500, and personal property was valued at $1,000.

 

1880 US Census: Julia F. Gorsline, age 44 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, with no occupation, was boarding in the household headed by Dr. Alida C. Gray?, age 47 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) in the City of Denver, Arapahoe County, Colorado.

1910 US Census: Julie Gorsline, age 74 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, with no record of employment, resided in the household headed by her nephew, Fred Morris, age 40 (b. IL; parents b. NYS) and employed as a secretary? for a manufacturer, at 529 Erie Avenue in the City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.  Julie had had 1 child, no longer living.  Fred had been married once.  The household also included Fred's wife of 5 years, Isabelle Morris, age 29 (b. At age 52 Frank M. Jenkins married Alice Maude Donnellon "Maude" (b. 16 Sep 1879 at Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY (census data suggest b. abt 1882), age 29, daughter of John George and Alice I. (Mill) Donnellon, on 10 June 1908 in Manhattan, New York City, New York; no record of children found.

MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Randolph Township, Cattaraugus County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Adaline Gorsline, age 67 (b. NYS; no record of parents' birth).  Of interest, the household headed by his son, William W. Gorsline, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was enumerated before him on the same census page.

 

Gilbert O. Gorsline married Adaline Roxanne Seeley "Roxa" (b. abt 1817 in NYS, d. 21 Sep 1900 in Randolph Twp, Cattaraugus Co., NY), daughter of William Seeley of Batavia, Genesee County, New York, on 1 February 1829 in Randolph Township, Cattaraugus County, New York and had the following children:

 

(1. William Wallace Gorsline "Wallace": Born 18 February 1836 in Randolph Township, Cattaraugus County, New York.  Died there 2 November 1909; interred there in Randolph Cemetery.

NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Randolph Township, Cattaraugus County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Gorsline, age 30 (b. PA; parents b. NYS); daughter, Gracie Gorsline, age 14 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. PA); and servant, Mary E. Lawn, age 19 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and single.  Of interest, his father, Gilbert O. Gorsline, age 69, was enumerated after him on the same census page.

 

William W. Gorsline married Martha Sprague (b. abt 1849 in Winslow Twp, Jefferson Co., PA, d. abt 1878 in Randolph Twp, Cattaraugus Co., NY) about 1865 and had the following daughter:

Born 10 June 1790 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.  Died 17 February 1860, age 69, in Wysox Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred there in Mercur Cemetery.  Apprenticed as a hat maker in Massachusetts until age 19.  Veteran of the War of 1812, participating in the Battle of Plattsburg.  Employed as a hat maker at New Orleans, Louisiana, then Geneva (north end of Seneca Lake), Ontario County, New York, and then at Newark Valley (NW of Binghamton), Tioga County, New York.  Subsequently moved to Bradford County, Pennsylvania, where he was initially engaged as a hotel keeper, then as a farmer in Wysox Township.

 

1830 US Census: Pumeroy Gorsline was heading a household in Orwell Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household included 1 male under age 5; 1 male age 30 to 40; 1 female under age 20 to 30.

 

1840 US Census: Pomroy Gorsline was heading a household in Orwell Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household included 1 male under age 5; 2 males age 5 to 10; 1 male age 10 to 15; 1 male age 40 to 50; 1 female under age 5; 1 female age 5 to 10; and 1 female age 30 to 40.

 

1850 US Census: Pomeroy Gorsline, age 45 [should be abt 60] (b. MA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Wysox Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  No real estate ownership recorded.  The household also included his wife, Charlotte Gorsline, age 44 (b. NYS); son, A. J. Gorsline, age 22 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $2,000; J. H. Gorsline, age 19 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer; son, Pomeroy Gorsline, age 17 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer, whose real estate was valued at $1,000 and personal property was valued at $1,000; son, Pomeroy Gorsline, age 27 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer; son, Abel Gorsline, age 22 (b. PA) and employed as a farm hand; daughter, Louisa Gorsline, age 19 (b. PA); son, Jose Gorsline, age 17 (b. Rome Borough, Bradford Co., PA).  Died 28 April 1895 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Veteran of the American Civil War, serving 3 years in the Union Army.  Apprenticed as a carpenter.  Eventually owned and operated a saw mill.  Married (1st) Harriet Johnson (b. abt 1829 in PA) in 1851 and had the following children:

Gorsline: Born 24 November 1843/42 in Rome Borough/Wysox Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 6 March 1892.  Married, as her 1st husband, Ida Ella Scouten (b. 27 Aug 1862 in Bradford Co., PA, d. 11 Feb 1942 in Wysox Twp, Bradford Co., PA) and had at least the following children:

Morris, and had children.  At age 35, while a resident of Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, Thomas Morris married (2nd) Emogene Howe (b. abt 1872), age 16 and a resident of Wysox, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, daughter of Jonathan and Elvira (?) Born 29 October 1831/30 in Wysox Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Died 1891 in Pennsylvania; interred Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Veteran of the American Civil War; served in Company I of the 35th Infantry Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers and Company G of the 207th Infantry Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers.

 

1870 US Census: Gilbert Gossline, age 39 (b. PA) and employed as a day laborer, was heading a household in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  His real estate was valued at $1,000, and his personal property was valued at $500.  The household also included his wife, Ann Gossline, age 29 (b. NYS); son, Isaac Gossline, age 2 (b. PA); and daughter, Charlott Gossline, age 6 months (b. PA).

 

1880 US Census: Gilbert H. Gorsline, age 47 (b. PA; parents' birth location not recorded) and employed as a lumberman, was heading a household in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Mercy Ann Gorsline, age 37 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); son, Isaac H. Gorsline, age 11 (b. PA); daughter, Lottie Gorsline, age 9 (b. PA); daughter, Annie Gertrude Gorsline, age 6 (b. PA); daughter, Morgeanna Gorsline, age 4 (b. PA); son, Guy Morgan Gorsline, age 2 (b. PA); and Claudy Gorsline, age 1 (b. PA).

1900 US Census: Mercy Gorsiline, age 57 (b. NYS) and widowed, resided in the household headed by her son-in-law, George Smith, age 31, in Sayre Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  She had had 10 children, 6 of whom were still alive.

 

1910 US Census: Mercy A. Gersline, age 68 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and widowed, was heading a household at 119 Thomas Avenue in Sayre Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  She had had 10 children, 5 of whom were still alive.  The household also included her daughter, Charlott, Gersline, age 39 (b. PA; father b. PA; mother b. NYS), single, and employed as a laborer in a darp/days? works; and son, Claude Gersline, age 29 (b. PA).

 

1920 US Census: Mercy A. Gorslaine, age 79 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), widowed, and not employed, was heading a household at 78 Pitney Street in South Waverly Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included her daughter, Charlotte Gorslaine, age 48 (b. PA; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a laundress for a private family; and boarder, Lester Gorslaine, age 27 (b. PA; parents b. PA), single, and employed as an engine hostler for a railroad company.

(Morris) Lyon (b. 1892, d. 1951 at Johnson City, Broome Co., NY), age 22 and a resident of Spencer, Tioga County, New York, daughter of George and Jane (Bailey) Morris of Overton, Pennsylvania, on 11 November 1914 (license issued same day) in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  Lillian had married (1st) (?) on 14 October 1912.
