Born 18 September 1855 in Holland.  Died 4 November 1925 in New Jersey; interred Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey.

Born 20 December 1859.  Died 21 March 1923, age 63; interred with Johannes.  He immigrated to the US in 1889.

 

1900 US Census: John Hamersa, age 44 (b. Sep 1855 in Holland; parents b. Holland) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Grove Street in the Village of Ridgewood, Ridgewood Township, Glen Rock Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey.  He immigrated to the US in 1889 (subsequently naturalized).  The household also included his wife of 21 years, Clara Hamersa, age 40 (b. Dec 1859 in Holland; parents b. Holland), who immigrated to the US in 1890 and had had 6 children, all still alive; son, John Hamersa, Jr., age 20 (b. Jan 1880 in Holland) and employed as a farm laborer, who immigrated to the US in 1890; son, Ralph Hamersa, age 14 (b. Jul 1885 in Holland), who immigrated to the US in 1890; son, White Hamersa, age 11 (b. Sep 1888 in Holland); who immigrated to the US in 1890; son, Garrett Hamersa, age 6 (b. Aug 1893 in NJ); daughter, Kate Hamersa, age 4 (b. Apr 1896 in NJ); and son, Albert Hamersa, age 5 months (b. Jan 1900 in NJ).

 

1910 US Census: John Hamersma, age 54 (b. Holland) and employed as a dairyman in the milk business , was heading a household at 207 East 25th Street in the City of Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey.  He had been married once and immigrated to the US in 1889 (subsequently naturalized).  The household also included his wife of 30 years, Clara Hamersma, age 50 (b. Holland), who had been married once, immigrated to the US in 1889, and had had 7 children, 5 of whom were still alive; son, Garret Hamersma, age 16 (b. NJ), single, and employed as an apprentice painter; daughter, Trine Hamersma, age 14 (b. NJ); and son, Albert Hamersma, age 10 (b. NJ).

 

1920 US Census: John Hamersma, age 64 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland) and employed as a milkman with his own dairy, was heading a household at 207 25th Street in the City of Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey.  He immigrated to the US in 1890 (naturalized in 1895).  The household also included his wife, Clarea Hamersma, age 60 (b. Holland) and employed as a truck man in the express industry, who immigrated to the US in 1893 (still an alien); and daughter, Tryna Kiapers, age 23 (b. NJ; parents b. Holland) and not employed, who was still an alien.

Born 26 January 1880 in Holland.  Died 14 March 1951, age 71, at 153 Prospect Street, Midland Park, Bergen County, New Jersey; interred Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey.  Immigrated to the US in 1890.

 

1910 US Census: John Hamersma, age 30 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland) and employed as a house carpenter, was heading a household at 14 Center Street in Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey. He immigrated to the US in 1890 (subsequently naturalized) had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 8 years, Jessie Hamersma, age 28 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland), who immigrated to the US in 1890, had been married once, and had had 3 children, all still alive; son, John Hamersma, Jr., age 7 (b. NJ); daughter, Anna Hamersma, age 5 (b. NJ); and son, Charles Hamersma, age 2 (b. NJ).

 

1920 US Census: John Hamersma, age 40 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland) and employed as a house carpenter, was heading a household on Prospect Street in Midland Park, Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey.  The household also included his wife, Jessie Hamersma, age 38 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland); son, John Hamersma, Jr., age 17 (b. NJ; parents b. Holland), single, and employed as an apprentice carpenter; daughter, Johna Hamersma, age 15 (b. NJ), single, and employed as a weaver in the linen industry; son, Chas Hamersma, age 12 (b. NJ); and daughter, Calra Hamersma, age 8 (b. NJ).

 

1930 US Census: John Hamersma, age 50 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland) and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household on Prospect Street in Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey.  He married 1st at age 22, immigrated to the US in 1890 (subsequently naturalized), and his residence was valued at $8,000.  The household also included his wife, Jessie Hamersma, age 48 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland), who married 1st at age 20 and immigrated to the US in 1890 (subsequently naturalized); and daughter, Clara Hamersma, age 19 (b. NJ; parents b. Holland), single, and employed as a book keeper in the silk and dye industry.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, John Hamersma, age 27, was enumerated just before on the same census page.

 

1940 US Census: John Hamersma, age 60 (b. Holland) and employed as a carpenter in the private construction industry, was heading a household in Midland Park, Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey.  He had completed 6th grade, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Jessie Hamersma, age 58 (b. Holland), who had completed 7th grade; and daughter, Clara Hamersma, age 28 (b. NJ), single, and employed as a book keeper in a business office, who had completed 2 years of high school.  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, John Hamersma, age 37, was enumerated just before, on the same census page.

Born 24 June 1881 in Holland.  Died 21 February 1959, age 77; interred with John, I.  Immigrated to the US in 1890.  Married John Hamersma, I about 1902.

Born 27 November 1902 in New Jersey.  Died 3 June 1951; interred with his grandparents in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey.

 

1930 US Census: John Hamersma, age 27 (b. NJ; parents b. Holland) and employed as a painter, was heading a household on Prospect Street in Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey.  His residence was valued at $7,000.  The household also included his wife, Katharine Hamersma, age 28 (b. Holland; parents b. Holland), who immigrated to the US in 1908 (still an alien); daughter, Cornelia Hamersma, age 4 (b. NJ); and daughter, Jessie Hamersma, age 4 months (b. NJ).  Of interest, the household headed by his father, John Hamersma, age 50, was enumerated next, on the same census page.

NJ), who had completed 8th grade; daughter, Cornelia Hamersma, age 14 (b. NJ); daughter, Jessie Hamersma, age 10 (b. NJ); son, John Hamersma, age 8 (b. NJ); daughter, Marie Hamersma, age 4 (b. NJ); and daughter, Anna Maw Hamersma, age 3 (b.
