Born 1747; daughter of John, II (b. 1709, d. 1777) and Elizabeth (Worrall) Salkeld (b. 1715, d. 1772)(who was the dau of John and Sarah (Goodwin) Worrall), and granddaughter of John, I and Agnes (Powley) Salkeld (d. 1749).  Died 1835.  Married Joseph Larkin on 4 December 1765.

1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 30 October 1804 in Concord Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 22 July 1896 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  First Mayor of Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Was brought up as a Quaker, but having married outside the faith in 1927, he was shortly after disowned ("read out of Meeting") by the Society of Friends, and his father, John II, a devout member of that Society, never forgave John, III for the offence; though John, II trusted John, III to be executor of his estate, he, nevertheless, disinherited him).  In 1836 John, III united with Saint Martin's Episcopal Church in Marcus Hook, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and remained a member the rest of his life.  Remembered by all as an exceptionally good man, and a friend who was universally admired.

Born 3 March 1808 in Chester Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Captain Erasmus and Sarah Ann (Johnson) Morton of Marcus Hook Borough, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 23/28/26 June 1848.  Married John Larkin on 25 January 1827 in Marcus Hook Borough, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (having married "out of meeting," John was disowned by the Society of Friends (Quakers)).

(1. Charles Carroll Larkin: Born 25 January 1828/26 in Chester County, Pennsylvania; baptized there in Saint Martin's Episcopal Church.  Died there 17 May 1906.  Married Anna E. Pennell (b. 18 Jun 1833 in Chester Co., PA, d. there 23 Aug 1918) and had the following daughter:

Laura Charlotte Larkin: Born 22 December 1856 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  Died 1 February 1936 at Montebello, Los Angeles County, California.  Married Carlton Yearsley James (b. 18 Jan 1858 in Upper Providence Twp, Philadelphia Co., PA, d. 21 May 1941 at Montebello, Los Angeles Co. CA) on 20 November 1884 at Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania and had the following children:

 

(1) Ronald Lackin James: Born 19 February 1886 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 14 April 1977 at Whittier, Los Angeles County, California.  Married (1st) Mary Alverda Ford (b. 6 Jul 1890 at North East, Cecil Co., MD, d. 21 Jan 1921 at Montebello, Los Angeles Co., CA) on 7 April 1910 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California and had the following son:

Horace Finch Larkin: (more info) Born 9 January 1859 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 30 September 1905 at home on Market Street in Marcus Hook, Delaware County, Pennsylvania from complications of a lung ailment.  Employed last in the coal, wood, and feed delivery business.  Married Lillian "Lillie" Wilson, daughter of William and Hannah Hayes (Valentine)(Cook) Wilson, and had the following children:

 

(1) Helen Louise Larkin: Born 3 May 1892 at Marcus Hook, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Married William Flaville Baker (b. 14 Feb 1888, d. 5 Jan 1936; interred Chester Rural Cem., Delaware Co., PA), son of J. Engle and Sue (Flaville) Baker, on 14 October 1915 at Chester, Pennsylvania, with (Baptist) Reverend Frank MacDonald officiating and had the following daughter:

 

(a) Louise Baker: Born 13 July 1916 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  In 1939 earned a BA degree majoring in music from Westchester State Teachers College and taught music in Chester public schools.

 

(2) Mary Gilbert Larkin: Born 15 February 1897 at Marcus Hook, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 5 February 1962; interred Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Married Clarence R. Fryer (b. Philadelphia, PA) in June 1921 in the First Baptist Church, Chester, Pennsylvania, with Reverend Ringrose officiating and had the following daughter:

 

(a) Jeanne Marie Fryer: Born 20 March 1926 in Crozer Hospital, Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Died 23 February 1946, age 19, in an automobile accident; interred Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, Pennsylvania.

 

(c. John Morton Larkin, Jr.: Born 10 June 1867 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (per records of the Concord Monthly Meeting of Quakers).  Died 25 February 1897 at Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California.  Moved to California for health reasons.  Never married.

 

(4. Lewis Morris Larkin: Born 21 November 1835 (also seen: b. 21 Apr 1836) in Delaware County, Pennsylvania; baptized there in Saint Martin's Episcopal Church.  Died 1 September 1889 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.  Married Rebecca Jane Alexander "Jennie" (b. 5 May 1848 at Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE, d. 7 Oct 1907 at Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA) of Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware; no children.

 

Following Lewis's death, Rebecca moved to Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Nathan Larkin: Born 6 June 1838 at Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania; baptized there in Saint Martin's Episcopal Church.  Died 1908.  Veteran of the American Civil War.  Married (1st) Mary F. King (b. 1847 in PA), daughter of Reverend King, on 30 September 1863 (per the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting of Quakers) and had the following children:

(b. Charlotte Morton Larkin: Born February 1872 in Pennsylvania.  Married (1st) Henry J. Newman (b. Mar 1867 in IL) of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois on 25 June 1890 in Delaware Twp, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and the following children:

 

(1) Charles Routt Newman: Born 21 October 1891 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  Died there 28 May 1892.

 

(2) Richard W. Newman: Born February 1896 in Utah.  Died in California.

 

 Henry and Charlotte moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.  Charlotte (Larkin) Newman married (2nd) Thomas R. Hayes (b. 1862 in MI).

Gilbert (b. 1842 in Bucks Co., PA) of Byberry, Pennsylvania on 12 May 1870 (per records of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting of Quakers); no children.
