Born 27 October 1883 in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York, daughter of Godfrey and Alice (Walrath) Lortscher, who also had daughter, Anna (Lortscher) Lohr, a resident of Binghamton, Broome County, New York.  Died , age 63, at the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York; interred Evans Mills Cemetery.

Lingenfelter: Married Madelyn Lawton, daughter of Edwin Lawton of Evans Mills, on 8 September 1934 at the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, Jefferson County, New York and subsequently resided in the Village of Evans Mills in an apartment in the building housing the heating, electric, and plumbing business and hardware store he operated.    Vilas and Madelyn had the following children:

 

(1. Karen Lingenfelter: Graduated from Indian River Central School.  Married Joseph Briggs.

 

(2. Kent Lingenfelter: Graduated from Indian River Central School.

 

b. Gerald A. Lingenfelter: See generation 2, below.

 

c. Ruth Lingenfelter: Married Ernest Morin and resided at Chaumont, Jefferson County, New  York.

 

d. Dorothy Lingenfelter: Married Roswell Flath and resided at Evans Mills, Jefferson County, New York.

 

e. Florence Lingenfelter: Married (?) Wilson and resided at Evans Mills, Jefferson County, New York.

 

f. Eleanor Lingenfelter: (more info) Graduated 1933 from Evans Mills High School and 1936 from Potsdam State Normal School.  Married Harold Foster Shimel, son of Floyd Shimel of Lafargeville, and resided at Theresa, Jefferson County, New York.  Harold graduated 1929 from Theresa High School and 1931 from the State College of Agriculture, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.   He was subsequently employed as a farmer.

Born 26 December 1922.  Died 1 October 2012.  Married Emma Ruth Gardner, paragraph C.2. of generation 2 of the Gardner Annex.

1940 US Census: Roy Lingenfelter, age 48 and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Bedlam Road, LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Roy had completed 8th grade.  The household also included Roy's wife, Viola Lingenfelter, age 45, who had completed 2 years of high school; daughter, Marie Lingenfelter, age 20, single, and employed as a stenographer, who had completed 1 year of college; son, Louis Lingenfelter, age 13, who had completed 7th grade; and son, Raymond Lingenfelter, age 9, who had completed 3rd grade.
