c. Mary Locksmith: (photos) Married William “Bill” Cheney. Owned and operated Bills Restaurant. In the 1970 they sold the restaurant and moved to Florida.

1. Biographical notes:

Born 15 January 1907 in Jefferson County, New York. Died 4 August 1960 at Sackets Harbor, Hounsfield Township, Jefferson County. For reasons that aren’t clear, Joseph moved his family for a period of time to the New York City area, where he was employed as a taxi cab driver/chauffeur, but he eventually returned to Jefferson County. Of interest, during the period they lived in New York City, Joseph’s daughter, Gertrude, was sent north to live with her Covey grandparents near Oxbow, a hamlet in Antwerp Township, Jefferson County. Was employed as a blacksmith in Evans Mills, Jefferson County until 1967.

2. Wife: Emma Irene Covey (photos)

Born 13 April 1908 at Evans Mills, LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York; daughter of David “Frank” and Mary Alice (Austin) Covey. Died . Married Joseph Locksmith, Jr. on 22 December 1924.

b. Mary “Mamie” Marie Locksmith: Born 1929 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. Taught 1^st grade in an elementary school on Academy Street in Watertown for many years. In 2010 resided in New York. Married Clifford Paul Buell “Paul” (b. 21 Apr 1925 at Watertown, d. there 29 Nov 2004) in 1949 and had the following son:

(1. Paul Joseph Buell: (more info) Born 26 December 1961 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. Was employed as a music teacher. Also played trumpet professionally in the Frank Soshi Orchestra. Married Kathleen Thomas (b. 1965) in 1993.

c. Cheryl Ann Locksmith: Born 1947 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. Married (1^st) Luther Maurice Chunn (b. 11 Nov 1946 at Biloxi MS, d. there Sep 1995) in 1966 and had the following children:

(2. Tabytha Lyn Chunn: Born 1969 at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

Cheryl and Luther were subsequently divorced. Cheryl (Locksmith) Chunn married (2^nd) Frederick “Fred” Van Allen (b. 1943 in Jefferson Co., NY), son of Almon Kelsey and Helen (Duffany) Van Allen, on 16 December 1978 and had the following daughter:

Born 3 June 1925 at Evans Mills, Jefferson County, New York. Died 24 January 2007 at Watertown, Jefferson County. Married (1^st) Joseph Sire Burns (b. 15 Nov 1924 in KY, d. 1982 at Madison, IN) on 31 October 1941, but they were subsequently divorced. Gertrude Mae (Locksmith) Burns married (2^nd) Francis Henry Briant, paragraph 3.b.(3.(b. of generation 2 of the Briant Annex on 24 October 1948.
