1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 14 December 1754 at Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut.  Died August 1844/16 February 1846 at Auburn, Cayuga County, New York.  Served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting 3 times and taking part in the Lexington Alarm.  Was also present at the surrender of Burgoyne and of Lord Cornwallis.  Loved to relate his wartime experiences to grandchildren, who remember their grandmother saying, while sitting opposite James in front of the fireplace, “Now father, don’t you get those young gals all stirred up!  They don’t want to hear your War stories.”  Was also an inmate on one of the dreaded prison ships.
