1880 US Census: Anthony Penskin/Peuskin, age 37 (b. Germany; parents b. Germany) and employed as a stone cutter, was heading a household in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Decla Penskin, age 24 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany); son, Toney Penskin, age 4 (b. NYS); and son, Heugo Penskin, age 3 (b. NYS).

 

B. Wife: Deckla/Thekla/Helka C. Jacobs

 

Born 20 March 1856 at Wheatfield, Niagara County, New York; daughter of Dr. Carl Guido and Pauline Cecilie (Turck) Jacobs.  Died 22 November 1924 at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  Married (1st) Anton Pensgen.  Married (2nd) Louis T./F. Spohr (b. Aug 1837 at Hanover, Germany, d. 16 May 1916 at Rochester, Monroe Co., NY) about 1889.  Louis had married (1st) Amelia "Emily" Wagner (b. Germany) on 10 July 1866 at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

 

1870 US Census: Guido Jacobs, age 53 (b. Prussia) and employed as a physician, was heading a household in the City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.  His personal property was valued at $1,000.  The household also included his wife, Pauline Jacobs, age 53 (b. Prussia); daughter, Auguste Jacobs, age 17 (b. Prussia); son, Paul Jacobs, age 16 (b. Prussia) and employed as a druggist apprentice; daughter, Thekla Jacobs, age 14 (b. NYS); and son, Hugo Jacobs, age 8 (b. NYS).

 

1892 NYS Census: Louis Spohr, age 45 (b. Germany) and employed as a clerk, was heading a household in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Dackla Spohr, age 36 (b. US); step-son, Tony Pensgen, age 17 (b. US) and employed as an optician; and step-son, Hugo Pensgen, age 16 (b. US).

 

1900 US Census: Louis Spohr, age 62 (b. Aug 1837 in Germany; parents b. Germany), with no record of employment, was heading a household at 14 Rome Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  He immigrated to the US in 1852 (subsequently naturalized).  The household also included his wife of 11 years, Dachli Spohr, age 44 (b. Mar 1856 in NYS; parents b. Germany), who had had no children.

 

1905 NYS Census: Lewis Spohr, age 67 (b. Germany), was heading a household in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Dackla Spohr, age 49 (b. US).

 

1910 US Census: Louis T. Spohr, age 72 (b. Germany), who had his own income, was heading a household at 14 Rome Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  He immigrated to the US in 1853 (subsequently naturalized) and had been married twice.  The household also included his wife, of 21 years, Helka C. Spohr, age 54 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), who had been married twice and had had 2 children, both still alive; and cousin [should be step-grandson], Wilbur? H. Pensgen, age 13 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

1920 US Census: Tecla Spohr, age 63 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), widowed, and not employed, was heading a household at 220 Kenwood Avenue in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included her grandson, Wilbur H. Pensgen, age 23 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a cutter in a clothing factory; and boarder, Louis M. Simen?, age 30 (b. NYS; father b. Russia; mother b. England), single, and employed as prop in the clothing linings industry.

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Hugo Pensgen, age 42 (b. 26 Aug 1876) and self-employed as a plumber, resided at 130 Franklin Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  He designated his mother, Mrs. Takla Spohr of 120 Kenwood Avenue in the City of Rochester as his nearest relative.

 

1920 US Census: Hugo Pensgen, age 43 (b. NYS; father b. Berlin, Germany; mother b. NYS), single, and employed as a plumber, was heading a household in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his housekeeper, Elizabeth Bogert, age 55 (b. NYS; parents b. Holland) and widowed.

 

1930 US Census: No record found.

 

1940 US Census: Hugo Pensgen, age 63 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a plumber in his own shop, was lodging in the household headed by Mary Fosco, age 39 (b. PA) in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  On 1 April 1935 he resided in the same city.

1900 US Census: Anthony Pensing, age 24 (b. Jul 1875 in NYS; parents b. Germany) and employed as a machinist, was heading a household at 59 Weeger Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 4 years, Matilda Pensing, age 24 (b. Oct 1875 in NYS; parents b. Germany), who had had 3 children, all still alive; son, Wilber Pensing, age 3 (b. Apr 1897 in NYS); son, Clayton Pensing, age 1 (b. Mar 1899 in NYS); and daughter, Gladys Pensing, age 2 months (b. Mar 1900 in NYS).

 

1910 US Census: Anthony P. Pensgen, age 34 (b. NYS; father b. Germany; mother b. NYS) and employed as a machinist in his own shop, was heading a household at 59 Weeger Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 14 years, Matilda A. Prussia) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Matilda Pensgen, age 45 (b. NYS; parents b. Wassan/Germany?); son, Clayton Pensgen, age 20 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a stock keeper for the Kodak factory; and daughter, Gladys Pensgen, age 19 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a matcher for a clothing factory.

 

1930 US Census: Anthony P. Pensgen, age 53 (b. NYS; father b. Germany; mother b. NYS) and employed as a machinist for a wholesale machine manufacturer, was heading a household on Hatch Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New  York.  He married 1st at age 20, and his residence was valued at $3,000.  The household also included his wife, Matilda A. Pensgen, age 53 (b. NYS; parents b. Germany), who married 1st at age 20; and daughter, Gladys E.? Pensgen, age 29 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a tailoress for a wholesale clothing manufacturer.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Wilber H. Pensgen, age 32, was enumerated after him on the same census page.

 

1940 US Census: Anthony Pensgen, age 63 (b. NYS) and employed as a machinist for a machine shop, was heading a household on Hatch Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  He had completed 6th grade, and his residence was valued at $4,000.  The household also included his wife, Matilda Pensgen, age 63 (b. NYS), who had completed 6th grade; son, Wilbur H. Pensgen, age 42 (b. NYS), single, and employed as supervisor for a WPA clothing project, who had completed 4 years of high school; and daughter, Gladys Pensgen, age 39 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a tailoress for a tailor shop.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Clayton G. Pensgen, age 40, was enumerated directly after him on the same census page.

Born October 1875 in New York; daughter of William and Eliz (Steinhauer) Scherer.  Died 1949.

NYS) and employed as a carpenter in the house construction industry, was heading a household on Ridge Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  He married 1st at age 23, and his residence was valued at $10,000.  The household also included his wife, Marie L. Pensgen, age 33 (b.  NYS; parents b. Germany), who married 1st at age 26.

 

1940 US Census: Clayton G. Pensgen, age 40 (b. NYS) and employed as a carpenter in the building construction industry, was heading a household on Hatch Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  He had completed 2 years of high school, and his residence was valued at $1,200.  The household also included his wife, Marie Pensgen, age 44 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.  Of interest, the household headed by his father, Anthony Pensgen, age 63, was enumerated directly before him on the same census page.

 

At age 23 Clayton Pensgen married Marie Louise Peck, age 26, daughter of Ernest and Amelia (Steckler) Peck, on 30 November 1922 in Monroe County, New York.

 

3. Gladys E. S. Pensgen: Born March 1900 in New York.  In 1940 was age 39, single, and resided with her parents on Hatch Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.

Born 6 April 1897 at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  Died March 1982, age 85.  Resided last at Spencerport, Monroe County, New York.

 

1900 US Census: Wilber Pensing, age 3 (b. Apr 1897 in NYS) resided with his parents at 59 Weeger Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

 

1910 US Census: Wilbur H. Pensgen, age 13 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) resided in the household headed by his step-grandfather, Louis T. Spohr, age 72, at 14 Rome Street in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.  The household also included his grandmother, Helka C. Spohr, age 54.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Wilbur H. Pensgen, age 21 (b. 6 Apr 1897 at Rochester, Monroe Co., NY) and self-employed as a farmer, resided on Burnett Road in Webster Township, Monroe County, New York.  He designated his mother, Mrs. Matilda Pensgen, as his nearest relative.

 

1920 US Census: Wilbur H. Pensgen, age 23 (b. NYS; parents b.  NYS), single, and employed as a cutter in a clothing factory, resided in the household headed by his grandmother, Tecla Spohr, age 63, at 220 Kenwood Avenue in the City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

NYS); son, Russel Pensgen, age 14 (b. NYS); and son, Claud Pensgen, age 12 (b. NYS).  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.

Born 1894 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada; daughter of Frank (b. England) and Sarah Ann (Hipkins) Lewis (b. England).  Died .  Married Wilbur H. Pensgen on 16 June 1921 (license issued 15 Jun 1921) at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

Born 17 February 1926 in New York.  Died 30 January 2013, age 86, in Penfield Township, Monroe County, New York.  In 1978 resided at Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

 

B. Wife: Rita Margaret Bach

 

Born 11 September 1930 in Penfield Township, Monroe County, New York; daughter of George William and Hazel E. (Walzer) Bach.  Died there 18 November 2008.

 

1940 US Census: George Bach, age 41 (b. NYS) and employed as a mechanic for a state garage, was heading a household in Penfield Township, Monroe County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade, and his residence was valued at $2,000.  The household also included is wife, Hazel Bach, age 40 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; daughter, Rita Bach, age 9 (b. NYS); and son, George Thomas Bach, age 5 (b. NYS).  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same township.
