1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 1642 on the Isle of Jersey, France.  Died after 6 September 1719 at Staten Island, Richmond County, New York; interred there in Stonybrook Cemetery.  Was a French Huguenot who left France in April 1665 from a port on the Isle of Jersey aboard the sailing ship “Philip” captained by Governor Philip Carteret, which landed in New York Harbor on 29 July 1665.  Initially settled in a community established by Governor Carteret called the Elizabethtowne Plantations, which was later became Elizabeth and Elizabethport, New Jersey.

 

Following marriage in early 1666, moved to Smoking Point on the western shore of Staten Island, New York (opposite Elizabethtown, NJ) and settled on about 80 acres eventually granted to him in 1695 by Governor Benjamin Fletcher on behalf of the Crown.  Sold his property there in 1696 and thereafter resided with relatives on Staten Island.

Born 1649 at Rouen, Perdy, France.  Died 1686 on Staten Island, Richmond County, New York; interred there.  Descended from residents of Rouen, France.  Like her husband, emigrated from France to America aboard the sailing ship “Philip.”  Married Daniel Perrin on 18 February 1666 (license issued 12 Feb 1666 by Governor Cartaret) at Port Richmond, Staten Island, Richmond County, New York (the first marriage in that area of New Jersey).

1840 US Census: Of possible interest, there was a Tobias Perine heading a household in Livonia Township, Livingston County, New York.  That household included 1 male age 20 to 30 and 1 female age 20 to 30.

Born 7 November 1776 at Neshanic, Somerset County, New Jersey; daughter of Abraham and Ellen (Vanderbilt) Huff of Neshanic).  Died 3 April 1850, age 73, in Fayette Township, Seneca County, New York from complications of chronic diabetes.  Of Neshanic, New Jersey when she married Tobias Perine on 23 February/2 March 1805 at Bridgewater, Somerset County, New Jersey.

NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Phoebe Perrine, age 72 (b. NJ; parents b. NJ); servant, Hannah Cupples, age 46 (b. Ireland; parents b. Ireland); farm laborer, John Topham, age 40 (b. NYS; parents birth unknown); and son, Eugene Perrine, age 36 (b. NYS; parents b. NJ) and employed as a carpenter.  Of interest, the household headed by his son, Monroe Perrine, age 34, was next door.

NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Sophia Perrine, age 32 (b. NYS; father b. England; mother b. NYS); son, Freddie Perrine, age 6 (b. MI); son, Frank Perrine, age 4 (b. MI); and daughter, Alice Perrine, age 2 (b. MI).  Of interest, the household headed by his father, Daniel T. Perrine, age 74 (b. NJ) was enumerated next door.

1900 US Census: Fred L. Perrine, age 27 (b. Nov 1873 in MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife of 8 months, Alice Perrine, age 19 (b. Feb 1881 in MI; parents b. MI), who had had no children.

 

1910 US Census: Fred L. Perrine, age 36 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife of 10 years, Alice Perrine, age 29 (b. MI; parents b. 1930 US Census: Fred L. Perrine, age 56 (b. MI; parents b. NYS) and employed as a retail grocer, was heading a household on Rural Route 2, Townline Road in Lansing Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  He was married 1st at age 25.  His residence was valued at $4,500.  The household also included his wife, Alice G. Perrine, age 48 (b. MI; parents b. MI), who was married 1st at age 18; and son, Merlin K. Perrine, age 19 (b. MI), single, and employed as a finisher for a motor body company.

 

1940 US Census: Fred L. Perine, age 67 (b. MI) and employed as an operator in a general store, was heading a household at 1811 East Street in the City of Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He had completed 1 year of high school.  The household also included his wife, Alice Perine, age 59 (b. MI), who had completed 8th grade; and son, Merlyn K. Perine, age 29 (b. MI), single, and employed as a salesman for a roofing company, who had completed 2 years of high school.  In April 1935 they all resided in Kent County, Michigan.

Born 28 February 1881 in the City of Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan; daughter of Edwin Amos and Eva "Eve" (Rogers) M. Galusha.  Died 8 December 1944 at Leslie, Ingham County, Michigan (also seen: d. Lansing, MI); interred Jones Cemetery, Jackson Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  Of Charlotte, Michigan when she married Frederick Lum Perrine on 20 September 1899 in Leslie Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  Got her teaching certificate from normal school, but was never employed as a school teacher.

Marshall, MI).  Died 29 March 1950, age 44, in Stockbridge/Mason Township, Ingham County, Michigan; interred Jones Cemetery, Jackson Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  Completed 8th grade in a 1-room country grammar school.

 

1930 US Census: Clayton M. Parrine, age 25 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Stockbridge Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  He was married 1st at age 20.  The household also included his wife, Rena M. Parrine, age 24 (b. MI; parents b. MI), who was married 1st at age 19; and son, Lester E. Parrine, age 2 (b. MI).

 

1940 US Census: Clayton Perrine, age 34 (b. MI) and employed as a truck driver for the county, was heading a household in Leslie Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  The household also included his wife, Rena Perrine, age 34 (b. MI); son, Lester Perrine, age 12 (b. MI); daughter, Edna Perrine, age 8 (b. MI); and son, Robert Perrine, age 4 (b. MI).  They all resided in the same township in April 1935.

 

Clayton Perrine married, as  her 1st husband, Rena M. Townsend (b. 16 Oct 1905 in White Oak Twp, MI, d. 28 Jul 2000; interred Jones Cem., Jackson Twp, Jackson Co., MI), daughter of Ned and Nora (Grimes) Townsend, on 1 January 1925 in White Oak Township, Ingham County, Michigan (license issued 31 Dec 1924) and had the following children:

 

(1. Lester E. Perrine: Born about 1928 in Michigan.

 

(2. Edna Perrine: Born about 1932 in Michigan.

 

(3. Robert Perrine: Born about 1936 in Michigan.

 

Rena M. (Townsend) Perrine married (2nd) (?) Emens.

 

c. Leland “Pete” Edwin Perrine: (# 4708)* Born 9/2 October 1906 at Rives Junction, Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  Died 19 October 1979 at Orlando, Orange County, Florida; interred Fairview Cemetery, Dansville, Ingham County, Michigan.  Completed 8th grade in a 1-room country grammar school and completed 9th grade at Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan.

 

1930 US Census: Leland E. Perrine, age 23 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and employed as a salesman, was heading a household on Jackson Street in the Village of Dansville, Ingham County, Michigan.  He was married 1st at age 23.  The household also included his wife, Eula M. Perrine, age 24 (b. MI; parents b. MI) and employed as a public school teacher, who was married 1st at age 23.

 

1940 US Census: Leland Perrine, age 33 (b. MI) and employed as a salesman of wholesale baked goods, was heading a household at 653 Griswold Street in the City of Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.  He had completed 4 years of high school, and his residence was valued at $5,000.  The household also included his wife, Eula Perrine, age 34 (b. MI), who had completed 1 year of college; son, Leland Perrine, age 8 (b. MI); daughter, Barbara Perrine, age 5 (b. MI); and daughter, Louise Perrine, age 1 (b. MI).  Those alive in April 1935 resided in the same City.

 

Leland Perrine married Eula M. (?) and had the following children:

 

(1. Leland Edwin Perrine, Jr.: Born about 1932 in Michigan.

 

(2. Barbara Perrine: Born about 1935 in Michigan.

 

(3. Louise Perrine: Born about 1939 in Michgan.

 

Leland Perrine married (2nd) Carol (?) and had the following children:

d. Merlin K. Perrine: Born 24 June 1910 at Rives Junction, Rives Township, Jackson County, Michigan.  Died 23 June 1988 in Hillsborough County, Florida; interred there in Prattville Cemetery.  Completed 8th grade in a 1-room country grammar school.  Completed 10th grade at Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan.  Married Harriett L. Perrine (b. abt 1910, d. 17 Jan 2008, age 98; interred with Merlin), daughter of Alfred P. and Carrie (Bell) Emens, on 23 June 1945 at Hillsdale Arboretum and had the following son:
