Born May 1795 in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Died November 1847/49 in Allen County, Indiana; interred Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Employed as a farmer.  Moved to Indiana in 1834; was one of the early settlers of Allen County.  Resided last on Goshen Road, Fort Wayne.

Born December 1796 in Burlington County, New Jersey; daughter of Joseph and Mary (Davis) Rockhill.  Died 18 December 1849 in Allen County, Indiana.  Married Peter Poinsett on 10 January 1818 in Burlington/Montgomery County, New Jersey.

Born 25/23 November 1818 in Montgomery County, Ohio (Germantown area).  Died 18 September 1892 in Allen County, Indiana from a severe, gaping abdominal wound received 17 September when his horse-drawn buckboard was struck by a runaway horse-drawn wagon; interred 21 September in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Was one of the early settlers of Allen County, Indiana.  Employed as a farmer and stock raiser in Washington Township, Allen County.

 

1850 US Census: John Poinsett, age 27 (b. NJ) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana.  His real estate was valued at $800.  The household also included his wife, Ellen Poinsett, age 24 (b. NJ); daughter, Ellen Poinsett, age 4 (b. IN); son, Peter Poinsett, age 2 (b. IN); and John Ulery, age 24 (b. OH) and employed as a laborer.

 

1860 US Census: John Poinsett, age 42 (b. OH) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana.  His real estate was valued at $6,000 and his personal property was valued at $600.  The household also included his wife, Ellen Poinsett, age 30 (b. IN; parents b. IN), who had been married once and had had 1 child, still alive; and daughter, Wava Poinsett, age 4 months (b. IN).

 

1920 US Census: Oliver Poinsette, age 33 (b. IN) and employed as a truck driver for a company, was heading a household on Lincoln Highway in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana.  The household also included his wife, Electa Poinsette, age 30 (b. IN); daughter, Wava Poinsette, age 10 (b. IN); son, Myron Poinsette, age 7 (b. IN); and son, Ernest Poinsette, age 3 years and 10 months (b. IN).

IN) and employed as a salesman for a packing house, was heading a household in Aboite Township, Allen County, Indiana.  He was married 1st at age 22.  The household also included his wife, Electa B. Poinsett, age 40 (b. IN; parents b. IN), who was married 1st at age 19; daughter, Wava Electa Poinsett, age 20 (b. IN), single and employed as a winder in an electric factory; son, Myron J. IN) and employed as a salesman in a meat market, was heading a household at 288 Maple Street in the Village of Arcola, Lake Township, Allen County, Indiana.  He had completed 1 year of high school and in Apr 1935 he and his family resided in the Village of Roanoke, Jackson Township, Huntington County, Indiana.  The household also included his wife, Electa Poinsett, age 50 (b. IN), who had completed 8th grade; son, Frank Poinsett, age 17 (b. IN) and single; and daughter, Joan Poinsett, age 12 (b. IN).

 

Oliver Poinsett married Electa B. Hyatt (b. 3 Sep 1889), daughter of Henry J. and Lydia (Zinn) Hyatt, on 5 December 1908 and had the following children:

(c. Ernest O. Poinsett: Born 15 February 1916 in Indiana.  Died 20 September 1988; interred Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.  Married Treva M. Avey on 7 November 1936.

 

(d. Ada Marie Poinsett: Born 23 June 1920 in Allen County, Indiana.  Married Wayne Edgar Thompson (b. 18 Apr 1919 at Roanoke, Huntington Co., IN), son of Paul J. and Minnie Ethel (Sexton) Thompson, on 6 November 1938.

IN; father b. NYS; mother b. Switzerland), who was married 1st at age 18 and had no occupation recorded; son, Edward R. Poinsett, age 22 (b. IN), single, and employed as a deliverer for a dairy; and son, John S. Poinsett, age 13 (b. IN) and employed as a helper in a drug store.

Born 24 February 1860 in Allen County, Indiana.  Died 11 October 1928 (perhaps took his own life) at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana; interred there in Lindenwood Cemetery.

 

1910 US Census: Joseph Poinsett, age 50 (b. IN; parents b. OH) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 19 years, Emma Poinsett, age 41 (b. IN; father b. IN; mother b. Gea German), who also had been married once and had had 5 children, 4 of whom were still alive; son, Charles Poinsett, age 17 (b. IN), single, and employed as a laborer in a knitting mill; daughter, Lula Poinsett, age 14 (b. IN); daughter, Alice Poinsett, age 8 (b. IN); and son, Peter Poinsett, age 4 (b. 1930 US Census: Emma Poinsette, age 61 (b. IN; father b. IN; mother b. Germany) and widowed, was heading a household at 1729 Oakland Street in the City of Fort Wayne, Wayne Township, Allen County, Indiana.  Her residence was valued at $4,500.  The household also included her son, Peter H.  Poinsette, age 24 (b. IN; parents b. IN), single, and employed as yard clerk for a steam railroad company; and son, Kenneth F. Poinsette, age 19 (b. IN; parents b. IN), single, and employed as an apprentice brick mason.

Born 13 September 1905 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.  Died there 2 May 1949; interred there in Lindenwood Cemetry.  Employed as Chief Clerk, Nickel Plate Railroad.  Always resided at Fort Wayne.

 

1930 US Census: Peter H. Poinsette, age 24 (b. IN), resided with his mother in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.

 

1940 US Census: Peter H. Poinsett, age 34 (b. IN) and employed as a railroad clerk for a steam railroad company, was heading a household at 2210 Bass Street in the City of Fort Wayne, Wayne Township, Allen County, Indiana.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Ruth N. Poinsett, age 35 (b. IN), who had completed 7th grade; daughter, Shirley M. Poinsett, age 8 (b. IN); and son, Thomas F. Poinsett, age 4 (b. IN).

Born 25 May 1905 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana; daughter of George Franklin and Clara (Rogge) Davis.  Died there 14 May 1984; interred Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.  Could not walk as a child.  Married Peter Herman Poinsett on 26 June 1931 at Wheeling, Marshall and Ohio Counties, West Virginia.
