1. Biographical notes:
Born 4
July 1860 at Battenville, Washington County, New York. Died 15/14 January 1951/50 at Greene,
Chenango County, New York; interred Greenwich, New York. Graduated from high school
at Greenwich, New York. Was employed as a farmer.
Immediately after marriage (Mar 1882) moved to and resided for about 11
years at Cresco, Howard County, Iowa (where he managed a large dairy farm) (and
also in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a period?), then in 1893 back to the
Reynolds family homestead (his father’s farm) at Battenville, Washington
County, New York for 37 years. Resided there on “Trout Brook Farm.” Sold the farm in 1929 and moved to Glens
Falls, Warren County, New York, where they lived with their daughter,
Ruth. Was employed at
Farmers’ Sheds on Park Street in Glens Falls.
When Lincoln and his
family moved back to the Greenwich, New York area from Cresco, Iowa they
resided in a house that had once been a Baptist parsonage. President Chester A. Arthur had lived there
when he was a child, and his father, Reverend William Arthur, was the pastor at
the associated church. After the Baptists
decided to build a new and larger parsonage, Dr. Henry Gray purchased the building
and moved it to his property (where the Greenwich Middle School was located in
1999. When the Greenwich School District
decided to build a larger school in 1905 the building was again moved to
another spot on the Gray Estate. In 1997
it was on the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and Fisher Street in Greenwich and on
the Register of Historic Buildings. In
October 1999 it was for sale in quite dilapidated condition.
Had a stroke and lost the
use of his legs, but his mind and speech were not affected. Consequently, he could not walk or care for himself and was in bed most of the time. Lived with and was cared for by his daughter,
Maud, for about 12 years. By all
accounts, during that period Lincoln was a very difficult patient.
