June 1898 in New York to Charles and Amelia "Melia"
(Hess) Gamble. Died 13 March 1949 in Mercy Hospital,
Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. It appears Hattie's biological mother died
soon after her birth, and unable to care for and nurture a new baby, her father
negotiated an adoption (perhaps formal) by Zenous and
Mary Jane (Hatch) Rounds (relation, if any, to Charles Gamble unknown), who had
a similarly aged baby, Robert Rounds.
While growing up, it appears Hattie remained somewhat close to her
biological father; she was enumerated in the households of both parents in the
1905 New York Census, and Charles Gamble was also recorded as a witness at
Hattie's wedding.
