1. Biographical notes:
Twin; born 4 January 1816/17 in Ontario County, New
York. Died on Tuesday, 14 March 1905
(age 89 yrs, 2 mo., 10 days) at his home on the family farm west of Franklindale (Mountain Lake area), Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania from complications of old age
and a one-week battle with “the grip.” He
was the last of his 11 siblings to die.
In 1860 John moved his family from Ontario County, New York to
Burlington Township, Pennsylvania, and in 1862 he purchased and began clearing
improving the farm where he and Amanda resided the remainder of their lives. Both were long-time members of the local
Methodist-Episcopal Church.

officiating. In 1883 submitted a claim
(#269929) as a Dependent Mother to the Department of Interior’s Pension Office.

Resided at Monroe, Illinois when she married Daniel McNeil/McNeal of Monroe, Illinois on 16 October 1879 (witnessed by her daughter, Mrs. Galnaugh, and Samuel Cates, Minister. Resided at Malta, Monroe Center, Ogle County, Illinois; no children. Apparently Rose’s vision was failing in 1909.

c. Oscar/Osker J. Rubert: Born 20 December 1846. Served in and died 23 February 1865 during the Civil War from complications of malaria. On 20 March 1865 his First Sergeant sent his father the following note from Petersburg, Virginia:
“Dear Sir: I herewith send you a copy of the resolution adopted by the members of Company F, 207 Regiment on learning of the death of your son, Oscar, who died in Depot Hospital [from] malarious fever. On the 3 and 4 of February I reported Oscar on the sick list for the first time since he entered the service. On the 5th of February our Regiment left camp and marched to the scene of action at Hatchers Run, with a few others of the Company was left in camp, being unable to walk. We returned to camp on the nite of the 11th February. Oscar had been taken to the Hospital that day in an ambulance wagon. Those who were in camp with him in our absence say he was quite sick and failed rapidly. He was attended by our surgeon until he was taken to the hospital. He was a boy [of] unimpeachable honesty and liked by all the Company. Your sympathizing friend, John L. Hamilton, First Sergeant, Company F, 207th Battalion, Petersburg, Virginia.” [resolution follows]
“At a meeting of the members of Co. F. 207 BN the following resolutions expressive of their feeling on the death of their fellow soldier, Oscar Rubert of Franklin Dale, Burlington, were unanimously adopted: Whereas it has pleased him who doth all things well to remove from us by sickness our fellow soldier Oscar Rubert. Therefore Resolved that in his death we have lost a friend whose being, disposition, unobtrusive member, and kindly deportment won for him the respect and esteem of all his companions in arms. Resolved that as a Soldier, Oscar was truly loyal and faithful, ever ready and willing to perform his duty upon all occasions. Resolved that while we deeply sympathize with the family and friends of the deceased, we feel how helpless are we to give relief and can only recommend them to the source of all comfort and to hope that he has gone to that happy land where the din of war is heard no more. Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased and be for publication in the Bradford Reporter.” Signed by Charles A. Before 1930 John G. Barrett and his two sons appear to have moved to Buffalo, Erie County, New York, where they resided as borders in the household of Edith/Edythe Rinkle and her daughter, Lila, on Winslow Avenue. The Rinkles had been John’s neighbors in Watertown.
1920 US Census: John (age 33), was heading a household on N. Pleasant Street, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. The household also included his wife, Deborah (age 23); son, Harry (age 7); and son, Lionel, age 4. Of interest, John’s next door neighbor was Pierce Rinkle, whose wife was John’s landlady 10 years later in Buffalo, New York.
1930 US Census: John (age 43), was boarding with Edythe Rinkle (age 43) on Winslow Avenue in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. The household also included John’s son, Harry (age 17) and son, Lionel (age 14), as well as Edythe’s daughter, Lila.

Hospital, Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Funeral service held at his home; interment
in the nearby Franklindale Cemetery. Resided on a farm adjacent to that of his
parents at RD 3 Towanda (Mountain Lake area), Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania when he married Esther
Whitehead and resided there the remainder of his life.

Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania when she married Aden Manley Rubert on
27 August 1890 at West Burlington by Reverend (Methodist-Episcopal) Herbert A.
Carpenter (witnessed by Andrew Whitehead and Lydia Spencer.

Born 1 September 1897 on the family farm at South Burlington Township (Mountain Lake area), Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Died at home Tuesday 29 September 1964, age 67; memorial service 1 October at the Franklindale Methodist Church; interred Franklindale Cemetery, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Employed as a farmer on the Rubert family farm he worked with his father (and later by himself) at RD 3, Towanda. His father's farm was adjacent to his brother, John’s farm in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. In 1928 was a member of the Klu Klux Klan. Was also a member of the Iona Grange #272. Had an accident while operating a power saw in 1951 that severed the first two fingers of his right hand. Never married. Bequeathed the farm he worked on his entire life and acquired from his parents to his nephew, Raymond Emery Rubert.

Married Floyd William Griswold (b. 3 Jan 1902, d. 1965) on 18 June 1927 and in 1936 resided at Dannemora (near Plattsburgh), New York. Later resided at RD 1, Lowman (near Elmira), New York. Floyd and Lucy had the following children:
(1. Bernice Rae Griswold: (photos) Born 11 August 1928. Died 1 November 2004. Married (1st) (?) Collins. Married (2nd) Major (retired) Henry S. La Freniere in 1976; subsequently divorced. Resided in Miami, Florida, about 5 miles from her sister, Esther.
(2. Esther Mae Griswold: (photos) Born 26 August 1929. Died 5 May 2004. Married (1st) (?) Ferguson and in April 1951 resided at Galeton, but they were divorced very shortly after marriage. Married (2nd) (?) Vitrik (d. in an accident). Resided in Miami, Florida, about 5 miles from her sister, Bernice. Esther and her 2nd husband had the following children:
(a. Joseph William Vitrik: Born 9 March 1960. Died 4 December 1980 when he lost control of the ambulance he was driving while in the military and stationed in Germany, and it went over a cliff.
